The Ford truck was called "Waltzing Matilda" if I rememer correctly, I saw a video from that way back in the beginning of the 80's...but I think it was JET powered, not rocket.

No it didn't...but Kenworth had the old Dual Air 4 bag air ride wich I believe came 1961. I think the torsion bar was more popular tho'

At least on the front one, the size looks to be much like a Holley Dominator and they have quite large float bowls...they are the same size front and back.

There has been resin 8 bag KW Airglide 100 suspensions available as Melbourne Model Truck Accessories had one complete with everything you need including axles, they also had the KW Torsion Bar suspension also complete with everything including axles...but I believe they are out of business since a year or so ago. So as the others say, the easiest to find and probably most economical (as the resin stuff ain't cheap) is to use the Revell US Snap Kenworth W900 suspension. One thing come to mind as the Papa Truck was mentioned, if you want to build a correct Papa Truck model you would have an AG 100 air ride suspension left over as the real truck had torsion bar suspension.

Just a suggestion, make the float bowls a bit larger and your carburator would look more realistic.

I believe many painted the Bandit dark blue and it was even called out on the box that the exterior should be blue...but as far as I know the real truck has allways been black I don't think Gary Ries (Stage Coach) has a website, but Ken Harris has quite some pictures of that Peterbilt truck on his fotki album together with lots of pictures of the Malone trucks. Jim, I have all of the Malone kits and the regular W923/925 and the Malone kits are different from the W923/925, both the Super Boss and Bandag Bandit are pretty much the same except for a few things. Yes both Malone race trucks have a DD 12V-71TT but they are not exactly the same as the turbo setups are different on the two like they are in real life. You are right about the W923/925, it had the earlier 1968-72 cab with the older style door handles...but both the Malone kits have the later 1973-82 cab with the paddle latch door handles and the side skirts are molded to the cab. The hoods are also different from the regular W900, they are long hoods and the Super Boss hood has a spoiler molded on under the grille, regular round headlights and a hole for the scoop on top and some holes to mount the wings. The Bandag Bandit also has a long hood and has the same spoiler molded on as the Super Boss has, but the lights are not standard KW square headlights, I have never seen this exact type on any other W900 so I did some research and the headlights for the Bandit looks to be taken from a 1977 Buick Regal, a pitch fork scoop up top are also molded to the hood and one scoop on each side you glue on. So the regular W900 and the Malone race trucks are made from totally different tooling but you could probably use the cab and hood if you cut off the side skirts and spoilers and put it on a regular W900 chassis. Follow the links and you will get the instructions for them and you will get an idea on how they are made up. Super Boss Bandag Bandit Regular W923/925, Movin' On kit One thing tho', the real Bandag Bandit that's on display at the Iowa 80 Truckstop Museum today has an older 68-72 cab with an all black interrior as the original cab probably got damaged when Malone's shop in Bakersfield Ca cought fire, so they must have changed it after that and it got a slightly different paint job, before it had the 73-82 cab with a grey-white-blue and yellow interrior.

Well the Super Boss and Bandag Bandit doesn't have the same cab and hood as the regular W925/923, so who knows...maybe if Round 2 think it's worth the money to restore the tooling for the W925/923 wich apperantly was destroyed when the T600 were made....I hope they do...and reissue the Alaskan Hauler. I had trouble with the decals myself and that's why my first Super Boss build is still undone.

I usually eyeball these things, if it looks right I'll go for it even if the gauge of wire is correct or not...on model kits everything doesn't look right in the correct scale and sometimes you have to exaggerate a bit to get it to look right.

Yes that would be something...and reissue all of the truck and trailer kits they have in their inventory...NOW!!!. The the Hideout Truck and Papa Truck is exactly the same except for the decals, there are differences in the race trucks tho', the hood is different, the wing configiration is different and the turbo configuration on the engine is different between the two...and the decals of course. By the way...I'm coming over to California in a couple of months, this time my friends and I will start our trip in Portland Oregon for one weekend April 1:st and 2:nd and we will be driving down to the L.A. area after that and stay there for the remainder of our vacation, and I belive we will be visiting our friend in Hesperia at least one time or maybe two. Mathew: I'm in envy of you, I haven't seen the Malone trucks live but I sure wish I had when they were here in Sweden on the first European Tour back in 1981, I thought they were cool when I first saw pictures of them back then, and I bought the first AMT Super Boss and Papa Truck kits maybe in 1983-84 or so...I have since completed the collection with one more of the Papa Truck and Super Boss and two each of the Hideout Truck and Badag Bandit..

Clayton, The Bill Signs truck was issued by Revell AG. But I'm with you, there are many trucks still from the old AMT tooling that can be reissued maybe with some retooling.

That's steep, I don't know what can motivate that price, it's just a regular AMT KW K100 Aerodyne as all others...with BJ McKay decals...nothing special at all...and I don't love the boxart so much that I need it, it's better to buy a cheaper regular one and get decals from Modeltruckin' and you will be there for a fraction of that price.

Sorry to dig this old thread up but it has just become actual again. I just read on the Tyrone Malone And The Bandag Diesel Racing team Facebook site that Round 2 has confirmed the Kenworth W900 Super Boss race truck is to be released sometime in April and potentially the K100 Papa Truck later in the year, like August or something like that. Here is a copy from the facebook page posted 11 hours ago. ""It is with great pleasure that I can say that I have been given permission to let you all know that Round 2 Models will be releasing the Super Boss as a Retro Deluxe kit. The kit will be released as AMT930 with a tentative release date of April 2016. The molds have been verified for everything except the tires which have not been found. Round 2 made the decision to make new tire molds for the kit however they have been changed to smooth sidewalls with the white lettering tampo printed on. The decal sheet is also being expanded to include both versions that AMT originally released, the Thermo King version which represents 1976-78 and the Bandag version which represents 1979-1988. Papa Truck is tentatively scheduled for release in August 2016 as kit AMT932, however all of the molds for Papa have not been 100% verified yet. I have been a fan of Super Boss since I first read about the truck in a magazine in 1976 before it had even set its land speed record at Bonneville and have spent years studying everying I can about Super Boss and Papa truck. Special thanks go to Tim Ahlborn for putting me in touch with Round 2 to assist them with this project, to Ken Harris for use of his extensive photo collection and knowledge of the truck and to current owner Gary Ries for allowing me to see the truck in person and take pictures of how the truck is now. The recent issue California Hauler can only be built as a day cab with what's in the kit as no sleeper is included. I believe you could get any wheel base you wanted but I pretty sure Peterbilt did offer some standard wheel base legths also, I have seen wheel bases from 146 inches to 185½ inches for 351's in a Peterbilt brochure somewhere.

Both first release Thunderbolt's were Hot Rod issues (Tasca and Russ Davis), 34 Ford Coupe, several 3 kit issues was in Hot Rod labeled boxes, the 69 Mustang Super Cobra Jet, 80's Mustang Street Machine, 78-79 Camaro Street Machine, 82ish Camaro Pro Street, 84ish Corvette Street Machine, Several Big Daddy Roth cars, McEwen Funny Car and Dragster kit, the old tool 41 Willys Coupe, and certainly some more that I have forgotten about. ,
