I don't know the year of the MPC kit and it's hard to tell as most of the 427 Cobra's looks the same, but it's a 427 Cobra and the 427 engine was produced between 1963 and 1968 and the original 427 Cobra car was produced between 1965 and 1967-68, so the very eary engines would be black and later would be blue if Shelby didn't repaint them. Many 427 Cobra's were delivered with 428 engines after 1966 as there were delivery problems with the expensive difficult to manufacture 427, they look alike and the difference on paper is only 1 cui (it's in fact really 3 cui as the 427 was closer to 425 cui), the 427 has 4.23 bore and 3.78 stroke and the 428 has 4.13 bore and 3.98 stroke so the casting of the 428 blocks was cheaper and more forgiving than the large bore 427 blocks. The 427 High Riser was 1964 only, before it was Low Riser and after Medium Riser, the Side Oiler came 1965, the 427 SOHC came 1964. The Ford teams raced the 427 in NASCAR until the Boss 429 arrived in 1969 and it took over as the main race engine for Ford in NASCAR racing until the 358 cui limit was introduced.

One can say much about the modern era NASCAR racing, but I don't know if putting "stock" back to this type of racing is the right way to go to make the racing more interesting. How fun would it be to see I4 or V6 equipped (or even hybrids) front wheel drive Toyota Camry's and Ford Fusion's competing against the V8 rear wheel drive Chevrolet SS, the cars would be a lot smaller than the current NASCAR cars (look at a Camry, Chevy SS or Fusion Pace Car and compare them to the race cars behind in line next time) and be 4 door sedans. I think I prefer it as it is.

Rotator Wrecker Kits?

I have one each of the RoG Can-Do and Will-Do and the only difference is the decals, and I hope they will reissue them again, and more of their old truck kits soon...the prices on ebay on the RoG truck and trailer kits are a bit steep. -
The Ford 221-260-289 and 302 are from the same 90 Degree V8 family and they look basically the same on the outside as the differences are all internal, the exception is the 302 Boss wich has Cleveland based heads and intake manifold for them. You can even build a 351 Windsor from a 289-302 if you add some material on the deck surface to make it taller and widen the intake manifold to fit.

The Thermo King version is the first issue from 1978-79, the later Bandag version (only the decals and boxart are different from the Thermo King version) came in 1981-82 together with the Bandag Bandit, Papa Truck and Hideout Truck. -

Engine cooling system for Drag car

Many drag racing cars do infact have cooling systems as they usually gets hot after the run and if you drive the car back to the pits, but it depends on what you use for fuel. Gas cars almost allways have cooling systems with a radiator and water pump, either electric or belt driven, Alcohol cars more seldom as the alcohol engines runs much cooler than a gas engine, but they will eventually get hot too and needs to be cooled down, Nitro cars don't have any cooling today as the engine blocks and heads are billet and don't have water jackets, they are cooled by the large ammounts of fuel injected in the engine, earlier Nitro cars did have some cooling and they had water jackets in the heads and engine block sometimes, but they were usually just filled up with water but no radiator or water pump, or they could have a water tank and pump circulating the water between the engine and tank. -

Yes that's right and it's confirmed by Round 2, it will also have decals for both the Thermo King and Bandag versions on the same sheet. The Papa Truck will most likely follow pretty soon (they had some small issues with the tooling for it) and also the Bandag Bandit and Hideout Truck. I don't know but the demand for original issues will most likely go down after the release and the value can also go down...as everyone probably know, the value is exactly what someone is prepaired to pay for it. I allready have two each of the Malone trucks but I will buy at least one more of each when they come out. -

The Dark Side is considered a good side in NASCAR history and spans from 1948 to 1972 when the cars were stock cars based and modified from real cars and not the far from stock cars totally manufactured by the race teams as they are now. But most of the racing teams are "prostitutes" and will go to the manufacturer who pays the most or get the most out of, so it has to be a business decision if it's true. I do own a Ford but right now but I root for Dale Jr in a Chevy when it comes to NASCAR. -

The Revell Kenworth are 1:25th scale, same as the other Revell AG Kenworth's, Revell AG has not done any Kenworth in 1:24th scale and Italeri wich Revell AG sometimes reboxes has not done any Kenworth's at all. The Western Star is an Italeri tooling so it's 1:24th scale same as the Italeri Mack. -

Unfortunately both the Revell Can-Do and Will-Do go for lots of money on ebay, I have both of them and luckilly I bought them when I did. The Can-Do and Will-Do are rotators but not sliding rotators wich no one has made in kit form yet. -
Small Block Chevy

You can use whatever Chevy small block engine you like as they looks basically the same on the outside as they are based on the same design regardless of cubic inch displacement. -

Yes the Polar Lights Dodge kit was probably meant to be a 426 Street Wedge car but they did include optional Max Wedge parts and a hood with the Max Wedge scoop for it to do a race car. Well it was most likely easier than to have to tool up a complete for the time period more correct 426 Race Hemi including exhaust and a Hemi hood scoop for it. By the way, both the 413, 426 Street Wedge, the 413, 426 Max Wedge and the 426 Hemi are based on the RB engine design (same as the 440) and many parts will fit between them. The 1964-65 Race Hemi differs some from the 1966-71 Street Hemi appart from the internals and the induction systems (Race Hemis had cross ram and dual carbs for drag racing or single carb intake for NASCAR and Street Hemi's has dual carb inline intake manifold), especially in the head department as the head castings for the Race Hemi are different from the production Street Hemi wich had some modifications done to the shape of them, so you can't take valve covers from a Race Hemi and put them on a Street Hemi or the other way around because they will not seal.

Yes I knew it wouldn't work as it is laid out and Monogram took some artistic freedom when they tooled it up...but it is a twin turbo set up anyway tho' it has to be corrected some. -
That's why I thought the engine choice in the Polar Lights 65 Dodge kits was a bit strange, they should have had the Hemi instead of a Max Wedge for the racing version.

The Blue version of the old Monogram 56 Chevy has Dual Turbochargers and the Black version has a Blower with dual carbs. -

Well 15 days isn't that bad as the parts are comming from half a World away down under...they are located in Australia. I have ordered from them a couple of times and I recived the parts in very reasonable time every time so far. -
Yes this exhaust system is in the Polar Lights 65 Dodge kits...why they chose to give them a 426 Max Wedge engine is a bit intriguing as the 426 Race Hemi wich came in 1964 was the engine all racers wanted...and not many street cars were equipped with a Max Wedge.

The engines in the Revell / Monogram NASCAR, Funny Car and many of the Pro Stock kits are quite nice and they are 1:24th scale. Otherwise most of the Asian and European manufacturers do their kits in 1:24th scale and there are many nice engines there too.
