Tom Daniels Paddy Wagon engine?
Force replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's not just the valve cover gasket seating rail that's missing on the FE heads, the pushrods also goes through holes in the intake manifold and the gasket seating rail is behind that on a FE, that and the fact that the intake ports on most Ford engines are evenly spaced...as are the exhaust ports...so the kit setup is pure fantasy as it isn't possible on a real FE engine. -
Yes I suspected that. Those wheels are very nice, the Fujimi wheels and tires looks a bit too shallow for the 68-69 Gulf cars as you say.

Best replacement chassis for JoHan Superbird?
Force replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, the AMT 68-69 Plymouth Road Runner/GTX - 70 Dodge Coronet are probably the best B-body chassis out there and will fit the Jo-Han body quite well. -
AMT Peterbilt 359 Cali. Hauler ?
Force replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the small window-Detroit Diesel version of the California Hauler had kit # T-500 and came with two boxarts. This one wich is the one I have... and this The version after that with new cab and Cummins engine wich replaced the small window kit had kit #T-501 and had the boxart the truck you're building has, and that's the 359 still with us today. Here is the #T-522 wrecker version of the small window-Detroit Diesel kit and that was also replaced with the later cab and Cummins engine kit. One thing to be sure if you have the small window cab or the later cab is if there is a small oval window on the passenger door, the later version doesn't have that but the small window kit does. -
Didn't I just say that? I agree on the Fujimi kits, they are the best injection molded kits out there shape wise, Fujimi has done several versions of the Mk I with different front hood, rear deck and wheels to do the cars from different years. The Mk II from Fujimi and the reboxed Revell kit are all the same except for decals to do different versions. Ford used the Prototype GT 1964. The Mk I was used 1965, 66, 68 and 69 at Le Mans and several other races, The Mk II were used 1966 and 67 at Le Mans, and were used at other races as Daytona, Sebring and others. The Mk IV were used 1967 at Le Mans (4 cars, the other 8 Ford cars entered at Le Mans that year were Mk II's and Mirage's) and model kits of the Mk IV are done by IMC/Testors and MPC.

F1 Season Takes Flight This Weekend
Force replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was also surprised, even a 358 (5.86 litre) NASCAR V8 at 9.200 rpm sounds like it revs more, so I expected a higher pitch sound from the small 1.6 litre V6 at 15.000 rpm. -
AMT Peterbilt 359 Cali. Hauler ?
Force replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes it's cool, and I also have the early small window wrecker version. What Tim doesn't know about Peterbilt's aren't worth knowing. Who knows...maybe when I get rid of the severe case of builders block I got right now. -
Tom Daniels Paddy Wagon engine?
Force replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Paddy Wagon is an abbreviation of Patrol Wagon and was a common name for a Police vehicle, mostly vans...so it can be almost anything and any make. -

Ahh...the good old days. It will be interesting to see if they get a hold of the "new rule package" and how many of them who will finish the race on Sunday. -
AMT Peterbilt 359 Cali. Hauler ?
Force replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ahh I see what you mean...well I would do that too. I just bought me the first version of the AMT California Hauler 359 with a Detroit Diesel 8V-71 for a decent price, the later 359 versions has a Cummins NTC. -
Harolds resin engine/suspension kit is for the Fujimi GT40 Mk I kit (I don't think Revell has issued the Fujimi Mk I kit) and I have a couple of those...very nice kits with a small block Ford with Gourney/Weslake heads and four Webers, and almost all you need to detail the Mk I under the hood. He had a kit for the Fujimi/Revell GT40 Mk II with a FE 427 in the works when I talked to him over the phone some years ago but I haven't seen anything of it yet...but if he gets it out it's a sure buy as he does quality parts. To straighten things out a bit regarding the Ford GT and GT40 cars. The first 12 was prototypes, was built 1964 in England and was called Ford GT at first, they predecessed the first production cars Ford GT40 Mk I from 1965, the engines in those were small block Ford 260-289 with four Webers, and a four cam injected 255 Indy engine in some cars, 3 of the first 12 prototypes were equipped with 427 engines tho' and was testbeds for the later Mk II's. 1966 came the reworked and modified GT40 Mk II with the larger 427 motor with a single 4bbl carburator, this car gave Ford their first Le Mans victory and Ford finished 1-2-3, and Mk II was also built in England. The GT40 Mk III was a street legal car, only 7 built in 1967, the engine was a detuned 289. 1967 came the Mk IV wich was built in America and was based on the J-car prototype, it had a 427 with dual 4bbl and the Mk IV gave Ford the second victory at Le Mans that year. They changed the rules for 1968 and put in a maximum 5 litre rule, so the Gulf Team dusted off the old GT40 Mk I, modified it a bit and put in Gourney/Weslake head 302's with four Webers and gave Ford their fourth and fifth victories at Le Mans 68 and 69.

AMT Peterbilt 359 Cali. Hauler ?
Force replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT 359 fenders are too short anyway and Porky at P & P Resins has corrected ones in resin, otherwise I thik Tim Ahlborn has a tutorial somewhere on how to fix them. It was so long ago since I built an AMT Peterbilt 359 (over 20 years) so I don't remember what and how I did when I built it. -
Missing parts are not that uncommon either.

Yes they are, but the Fujimi/Revell and LS/Arii kits are curbside kits with less detail, the 1:25 Aurora/Revell and IMC/Testors are full detail...and are a lot older so they are more difficult. Ford did 12 GT Prototype cars back in 1964-5 and the Aurora/Revell GT, the IMC/Testors GT and the LS/Arii GT(40) is the only kits I know of of this GT Prototype, the other kits from Fujimi, Revell (reboxed Fujimi), IMC/Testors/Union and MPC are of the later GT40 production Mk I, Mk II, J-Car and Mk IV cars and they are quite different.
-
To my knowledge the LS/Arii, Aurora/Revell and IMC/Testors Ford GT kits are the only model kits of the early GT prototype, yes it's was only called GT so the boxart on the LS/Arii kit is wrong there too, the GT40 name came later with the production GT40 Mk I cars wich are a bit different from the early GT's. The Aurora/Revell and the IMC/Testors kits are full detail, the Aurora/Revell GT kit has only one engine option, the 260-289 with four Webers, the IMC/Testors GT kit includes three engine options, a 260-289 four Weber small block and an injected 255 Indy motor wich both are correct for the GT as both were used...they also included a 2X4bbl 427 SOHC for some reason wich was never used in this car as far as I know. Even the IMC/Testors GT40 Mk I and Mk II kits has the 289 small block and the 255 Indy engine options from the GT kit together with a single 4bbl 427 (not SOHC), allthough the real Mk II's was only raced with the 427 and the Mk I's only with small block. All depends on what you're going to do, but I agree with vamach1, if you can find an Aurora/Revell or an IMC/Testors kit I think you'll have a better starting point.

Canepa KW, new project
Force replied to tbill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I built one many years ago...sometime around when the kit was first released in the early 90's...but I don't remember any big issues except for the hood-bumper clearence. I didn't use the Canepa hubcaps and cab to sleeper fairings as I added the exhaust stacks, I made them from heat guards from a W925 with aluminum pipes, but otherwise it's out of box. The pictures are not the best as they are scanned photos taken in the late 90's but they are the only ones I have. -

Edit: This wasn't the thread I was ansvering to, it's moved from the original thread wich was about the LS/Arii GT40 kit and was an answer to another post in that thread, it looks kind of taken out of it's context now.

That's why the rulebooks today is re-written ... "all things not mentioned and allowed by the rules are prohibited"... just to avoid Smokey Yunick like "loose" interpretations of the rules...they try anyway but most get cought sooner or later.

Well it says "1964 Daytona Grand Prix Winners Type" wich is an exaggeration and not true since the Ford GT and GT40 didn't win anything before the Daytona Race in 1965, and this car had #72 only at the 1965 Daytona race entered by Shelby American. At the 1965 Daytona race car #73 won (also entered by Shelby American) and the #72 came 3:rd, the #73 car wich is chassis #GT/103 also came 2:nd in the 1965 Sebring Race, the #72 car was chassis #GT/104 and both were of the 12 GT prototypes made before the final production Mk I and Mk II cars wich was assigned GT40 P/1000-GT40 P/1074 chassis numbers. I don't have a clue how this model kit is as I only have seen some pictures of it, but it doesn't look that promising.
