  1. They both look really sweet, to say the least! I have to admit that I like the vinyl roof look better than the non-vinyl car but either way is nice. A friend of mine had some '68 Chevelles and while I prefer them to the '69 model year in some aspects, both are attractive. It's a shame that AMT screwed up so badly on the tail lights on the reissue ... another example of "What, if anything, were they thinking when they OK'ed production of this one". Stuff like that really suggests that there are people there who are not doing their jobs... Thank goodness for Modelhaus - may that business exist into eternity! Nice builds - you need to revive that green car though as it is a part of your life and past and deserves to be displayed even if you do not think it worthy. Just a friendly suggestion...
  2. Tom, I agree with you whole heartedly. It is my opinion that we should all just be grateful that these resin casters provide what they do because were it not for them, then for many of us, our wish lists would be all much longer and not a chance of ever being realized. Our individual talents and levels of ability determine what a finished product will be but as evidenced by this build, our desires, abilities and patience are what see as our own limits. This little car would fit in nicely in any collection despite the grumblings about how inferior the original body is. I have one of these bodies and I thought that for the price, it was an excellent starting point and I stand by that. With all due respect, I tend to think that there are those out there who will always find something wrong with any kit or build where as we should be thankful to have what we have. I recently quoted Thumper - the little rabbit - from the Disney Movie "Bambi" who said, "If ya can't say sumthin' nice, then don't say nuthin' at all".
  3. This is such a pretty build of a car that has been so overlooked and today, there are so few left. Your car looks SO stock, natural and good in those colors! I think that you made the right choice to leave it as it is. I really do love those late 50's Fords.
  4. Well, they can say what they want about Flintstone resins and knock ;'em all they want, but your build goes to show that they have a lot of potential with some effort and work. Some guys like things right out of the box and perfect, but taking something that is workable and producing something like your sedan delivery really is what model building is all about IMHO. I have a few Flintstone resin kits and for the dollar, they are usually a pretty good deal. I've bought far more expensive resin model that needed a lot more work than Jimmy's do but I am just glad to have them as most resin stuff is unique and fills the gaps that the big companies can't. Your build exemplifies how some work and time can produce outstanding results with something if you put your mind and heart into it. Well done!
  5. While I think that this would be an awesome stock configuration build, I have to say that you have shown some real imagination and talent here. Ittakes things to a whole new level inmy books when it comes to monster trucks. May I ask where you got the cab and tanker body? I'd like to get one of each - not that I would likely ever build it, but just to have the option of maybe, should the spirit so move me, doing so one day. Agan, it's an awesome build.
  6. That looks really pretty! I like how clean it is and you obviously spent some time on it. Very nice!!
  7. Nice!! I actually had a real 1:1 of those when I was a kid. Today, I am not very proud of how I abused that poor old truck but alas, the foolishness of youth! Nice build!!!!
  8. WOW! Nice builds Rick!! You do not see many Scout models out there at all. I can see why now - you bought most of them. Seriously though, they look good and I have aways liked those older Internationals. A friend of mine had a gray coloured one that he called "The Sprout" and he had a blast with that tlittle truck for many years. It was dependable and faithful beyond belief and those things are well built and tough - almost military grade hardware. As for inaccuracies in the Terra - I've seen more glaring errors on factory released kits, so don't feel bad. Personally, and with all due respect, I think that we should look more at the positive and good aspects of a build rather than what we do not happen to like or see wrong. I mean, aren't we supposed to be here to encourage one another and help? I think that as "it's the thought that counts" applies in real, everyday life, I suggest that in modeling, "it's the effort that counts". or am I missing something here?
  9. Looks pretty nice from where I am sitting!! Those cars look good with the two tone paint and I actually bought a 1:1 hardtop in similiar colors many years ago for $20.00 - ( yes - twenty dollars ) I bought it for the factory front/rear fader switch for the radio. . Ah, the good old days - when Barrett Jackson wasn't even thought of and the old car hobby was just that - a hobby - and not the dollar fueled and driven racket that it has become today. That switch is now in my 1:1 '59 Impala convertibleThank you for posting.
  10. Nice build George!! And my all time favorite car too!! The color looks good and reminds me of a yellow convertible that I used to see in Winnipeg when I lived there. It's different, but definitely attractive. Well done!
  11. Looks really good Rick!! That was quite an undertaning I am thinking and you pulled it off well. The wheels look right and it's a nice, clean build. The car looks much better in stock form than a race car. Well done! AAA+++
  12. I can see where this thread is going no where and I suggest, maybe it should be locked or deleted. With all due respect, if some of us would put as much effort into complaining to the manufacturers as opposed to criticizing some typos, maybe we would have a better chance of seeing the changes in kit quality and accuracy that we would like to see. To all offended and concerned - and again, I say this with all due respect and not in anger ( Disappointment??? Well, maybe a little.. ) I apologize for my spelling errors. As to the tone of my letter - I just told it like I see it and if anyone is offended - then, oh well..... Correct me if I am wrong, but IMHO, I said nothing untrue and what was stated was as I clearly pointed out, based on my opinions ONLY. I did not set out to rain on anyone's parade - or to insult anyone. Now - can we please get back to discussing models and not spelling, punctuation and gramme? I will likely get suspended for this post - or at least get my wrists slapped, but I thought that this "hobby" was about styrene and not spelling. Again, I say what I say with all due respect, but c'mon guys, we are all supposed to be adults - not grade school children. And not all of us here are college graduates with majors in English or spelling. I've seen far worse mistakes on the threads and no one seemed to notice. Ooops! Did I say that?
  13. I tried looking thta seller up - are you sure that's the proper user ID?
  14. Here's the email text that I just sent to Round 2.. Maybe more of us should be doing the same thing but not just to Round 2..... I am writing in regard to one of your latest releases - the AMT 1965 Ford galaxie 500. I had every intention of purchasing at east two of these kits from my local hobby shop, but after reading some comments of the poor quality f the kit, I am reconsidering and will likely seek out older issues of the kit online. Apparently, this kit, like some of your other car products, has some fairly serious issues and given the prices of models today, I am careful what I buy. Like many other people in the hobby and given the state of the economy and the ever increasing cost of living, I will spend my money where I know that I will get a quality product. Your company is supposedly restoring the old molds as I understand so why not upgrade the models by fixing errors like the windshield opening on the 78/9 Ford trucks? How difficult can it be to repair such an obvious flaw and error in the appearance of the model? It seems almost as if there is little quality control with your company with errors in decal sheets and what seems, inmy opinion, to be a total disregard for the quality of your products. I can say with conviction that, again in my opinion, your company could larn some lessons from Moebius. I'll be supporting that company more given the superior quality of their products and the evident care thatthey put into making a good effort to make a quality, much more accurate and superior quality product. Wake up AMY/Round 2 - these bad reviews of glaring mistales and poor quality are going to catch up with you. The above comments are my opinion only, but this email is one that is written out of concern as thehobby needs the products - but for goodness' sake, show the modelling community thatyou are actually trying to make an effort and justify the ever increasing prices of the models that you are marketing. You can reach me at the above address and phone number and address if you wish to. Sincerely, Gary Cook
  15. I've said it before and I'll say it once again - as long as we don't complain and keep buying the "stuff" ( being polite here ) thatthey keep shoving at us without addressing any of the mistakes and shortfalls - then the manufacturers are going keep doing it as long as they can. Maybe we need to start emailing them or sending snail mail letters telling them that unless the errors and mistakes pointed out in reviews like this one are worked on, then we aren't buying that particular kit. IMHO, Round 2 is as guilty if not more so of pushing quantity ahead of quality. Their kits aren't the cheapest and give us what we are paying for. IMHO, it's just poor management, sloppy production and no one really cares about anything but the bottom line. I'll be emailing Round 2 and voicing my opinion and I know better now than to buy this issue of the Galaxie. Can someone out there convince me that given today's technology and equipment, these people can't produce a superior product? Just my 2 cents worth...
  16. Just tried stripping a model with my tub full of trusty castrol Super Clean ( Purple Power ) and after a three day bath, I was surprised to find that it barely touched the paint. I've had this jug for about two years and have been using it regularly the last few weeks for stripping some old built ups. I keep it in a plastic sealed ( but not air tight ) container and it's been working great right up until this model. Or could the issue be the type of paint used?? I scrubbed the body clean under hot water with a stiff bristle brush like I always do, but most of the paint is still on the model. I'll get in touch with the man who I got the truck from and see if it was him who painted it and what kind of paint he used. One final question, if I can;t get the paint off the body, can I prime over the remaining blue paint with no ill effects if I let the model sit for a week or so to let any solvents from the cleaner that may be in the paint gas off? The paint build up wasn't heavy and it was two toned and I am going to two tone it again, but with dfferent colors. Has anyone had this happen to them? The cleaner has removed pretty the paint from everything that I have immersed in it.
  17. The truck looks great, George!! I am assuming that it took some thought toput it together andmakeit look so right.. nice build!!!!
  18. Tom is a safe bet with what ever you want and he has. You'll not find a better product anywhere and as a person, he really is as honest, sincere and good as they come. I've bought from him and am very, very happy and impressed with his product. You can get cheaper - but with Tom, you can't get a better bang for your buck than from him. The styrene guys really could learn a few things about product quality and customer relations and service from Tom, IMHO. AAAAA+++++++
  19. Nice work on the upgrades and continuation of the build! Looks fantastic!
  20. Very nice!!!! I simply adore the '60-66 Chev trucks - especially the '64-66's. It's not difficult to see the workmanship and love that went into this one. Thanks for sharing.
  21. That's a nice, clean, uncluttered and simple build indeed! I think that while appreciating and striving for the next level towards that elusive, perfect build, thatthere is a definite place in the hobby for the more simple things. Someone and I recently have been discussing how not everyone has the finances, tools, and experience developed skill and know how to do some of the things seen on this forum and this is an example of how nice a more simplistic approach to a build can be. It's nice to expand and grow as a builder and I do not think that any of us ever "peaks" with our abilities - we just keep developing them based on the love and devotion that we put into every model that we do. Congratulations on a nice build and like my friend's builds, yours shows that it can be fun to build something nice even if you happen to be on a budget as long as you do your best. I know that he always does, as it appears that you do and my hat is off to the both of you.
  22. You could make one easily enough from a Revell two door sedan..
  23. Are they closing up shop?
  24. That appears to have been a pretty good score, Pete! I love taking something that someone else gave up on or tossed and making something of it. I lucked out two weeks ago at a flea market but not one kit from what I got was evenpriced at $15.00 - they were more - some a lot more. I ended up doing some trading with the vendor who is a friend and got all of the lits includng three old Johan Mopars - all unbuilt andin their original boxes. I'm really aprtial to the Ford panels - especially the blue one. I have one of those squirreled away somewhere that wes being built factory stock - it's more work that a person would think. I wanted it to be a police paddy wagon type of rig or a fire department or rescu light duty support truck. Maybe one day...... Anyhow, congratulations on redicovering the hobby - if you have not kept up, there are tons of changes - mostly for the better. Keep the photos coming!!!
  25. Ah yesssssssss.... the Master is working his magic yet again! I do so enjoy looking at your builds Steve. Your choices of color only add to the realism and your talent and workmanship raises the bar for most of us and sets a new standard for "clean", "realistic", "period correct" and most of all, "quality of workmanship" I'd love to see your collection all set out..I'd likely never survive the experience as I'm sure I'd go into overload mode and - well--- "POOF" - I'd just explode! Green with black accents.. I can see that being VERY attactive and looking so righteous on this car. I have one of these on my shelf that was a gift from my best friend years ago - you are going to make me want to take it apart and redo it - I just know it...
