lasy Issue of '65 or '66 Mustang Covertible?
impcon replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I took a close look atthe convertible last night and it is indeed a Momogram kit. *groans* I didn't look that closelyt at the other Mustangs but the '65/66 (?? ) fastback seems to be the same scale as they are identical in size. Oh well, at least the convertible isn't all gooped up with paint and glue and it should build up OK if I can find a donor kit. I wonder why the '65/6 Mustang convertible has never been reissued? They are sort of the ultimate dream car to a lot of people ( including my wife ) and I'd bet they'd sell a whack of 'em. I'd scoop a couple more myself. -
Those do indeed look like the right seats, Matt. Are there alternative seats that come with that kit or are those the only ones? Thanks for taking the time to post that picture.. I appreciate it. Now the hunt is on for a kit on Ebay. It would be nice to find a built one rather than taking the parts from a brand new kit.. but what ever it takes. I really want to getthis project out of the way.

lasy Issue of '65 or '66 Mustang Covertible?
impcon replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi George, Wow! Now THAT would be nice - especially given that it has never been painted!!!! Are there any markings on the body that I should look for or should I just post a picture or two? WOuldn't the recent hardtop kit have everything that I need to put the car together? if it is an original issue, I'l maybe just leave it unpainted - it looks nice just as it is. -
I recently purchased a batch of Mustangs on Ebay and received them yesterday. There is a partially built, very incomplete but cherry ( not painted or altered in any way ) '65 or '66 Mustang convertible in the bunch. I am just wondering when the last issue of that car was released? It is molded in white and I got yjre body, grille, windshield and interior with the bucket seats - nothing more - no9thing less.I'd say that this is a fairly new kit.. any ideas? There is a nicely built, unpainted '65/6 fastback amd two newer ones - about a '70 and a late 80's/ear;y '90's convertible that is also incomplete. None are painted.. and all are VERY clean. I am kind of excited about the '65/66 convertible - I'll likely do it in Frost Turqoise when ever I get to it and maybe put a 6 cyl. automatic in it - just to be unique.

Hey Shucky! The side moldings are from a '59 El Camino and yes, they run along the side of the car from front to back. They are reasonably flat, yes.. but delicate becayse they are very shallow and actually, to be done properly, they aill actually be two very slim seperate pieces of trim that join each other at front and back of the car. If they are cast too thick, they will protrude from the side of the car and look ridiculous... I have considered making the piece of trim from two seperate strips of styrene but getting the stuff formed right is a bit beyong my current capabilities. I'm going to add some side moldings to another project using strip styrene but the El Camino moldings are too complicated - I think. My life is pretty complicated and full these days so I can go for a few days at a time and not touch any of my projects. I am still working on my '63 Mercury Meteor and '61 Chevy pickup annual and what I am doing is trying to get a bit of a jump start on these other upcoming projects by trying to figure out and learn how to do what I really want to do.

Interesting thread! I have asked a couple of questions on this subject myself and this thread adds to that knowledge BIG TIME! Now if only there was some place local to buy this stuff.... *sighs* But there isn't so I read these threads on making your own parts with great interest because when I do getthe materials, it will be on line. I recently tried using fibreglass resin for small castings. The came out soft and hard to work with but I am going to try again. I am tring to take castings of body side moldings and they are pretty flimsy and fragile - making them hard to work with. So keep thos suggestions coming.. a lot of us are watching, reading and learning... maybe some one needs to do a proper tutorial on this subject...*hint, hint, nudge, nudge* Now maybe if us guys who are interested would ask nicely????

Sorry - I wasn't trying to hijack anything - just trying to explain by pictures what I was referring to as something that I would like to see available. Again, my most sincere appologies.

The Signet that I am referring to looks like this - sure would make a sweet build!

Reliable Resin : COMING SOON
impcon replied to Reliable Resin's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
No pictures but I'd sure like to see them. Wonder what's wrong? Modern technology.. HARUMPH!!!! -
I think that this says it all regarding your choice of wheels!..
-
Pretty car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, that dash is one of the most incredible things that I have ever seen!!!!!!!! Talk about detail.. makes anything that I do look like kindergarden finger painting just before coolies and milk and nap time.. So tell us - how did you manage to achieve perfection on that dash????Please tell us..........

Wow! THAT is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember the program and I watched every episode that I could. However, if memory serves me right, the truck used in the TV series was a long wheel base 3/4 ton model like this one -

This one will be interesting to watch. I'd really appreciate some detailed photos and explanations as towhat you are going to do regarding the door panels. I have a project in mind but the door panels that come with the kit that I want to do the conversion on are wrong and will need to be redone. Being as this was your first car, you'll likely be putting your heart into this build more so than most, I would assume.

A very attractive colour combination - unusual, but really pretty. These cars have so much potential as models but it is just hard to improve on the factory stock look IMHO. Again, it's just my opinion but the wheels should be no larger than 15".. I'd stray no further from stock than maybe a set of Monte Carlo.Camaro style factory rally wheels with white walls. I have a real '59 Chevy 2 door wagon that had a set of 15" 1967 Impala rallys ( one year design only but very close to the rallys that GM put on their cars for years afterwards ) on it when I bought it and those wheels sure did look good on that car! Anyhow - it's your model - not mine and you are doing a great job on it. I'll be watching.

No - a '65 model Dart or Valiant Signet - the one with the stainless tiarra ( sp?) that runs across the roof. The '63 is cute enough but I still prefer the '64/65's.
-
The Corvair would be neat but how about a '65/65 Valiant or Dart Signet hardtop? Or a late '60's Dodge Swinger hardtop? Or a GOOD 1967-72 Ford half ton long AND short box? It would be easy to offer either option for you as you sell your kits in individual pieces which by the way, is an EXCELLENT idea!

Couple Questions About Styrene Sizes
impcon replied to TorqueWrench08's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome to Hooterville location - 65 miles from nowhere - population........ uh..... lets see.. too peeple an myi nayburs ol' hownd dog died last week - Billy Bob's missus had a yung 'un.... OK.. jus' a sekund - gonna do mi guzzinta's heer.. I dunno.. sumthin' like 32 peeple. Seriously, I can relate. For yours tryly, it's a three hour plus round trip to the nearest hobby shop or Micheals.. so I just wait, write down what I'd like to have - I say that because the hobby shops don't carry a whole lot of specialty stuff like photo etch kits. resin accessories... so all that stuff has to come to me by mail. Yeah - I know the frustration and the apprehension of buying stuff online. I would MUCH rather touch and see the stuff before making a decision. Heck, there are not even any real model shows near us at all. There used to be one in Surrey ( B.C. - part of the Vancouver area ) and though it is five hours away, I would happily go but last I heard, it had folded. I don't even know anyone else in my area who builds. It sure is lonely out here...... -
Calling all Blue Oval fans
impcon replied to charlie8575's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
if the all original '67 fairlane that I used to own was any indicator, then the whole underside of the body is pained body colour. I do not recall seeing any primer anywhere. The floor pans were the same colour as the up side of the body. Inner fenders, rad support and most of the firewall are all satin black. The top of the firewall should be body colour - that is from the bottom of the windshield on down under the hood to the body seam that runs across the top of the firewall aboutfour or five inches from the top. From there down to just under the front of the transmission tunnel, everything was satin black. Springs would indeed be natural metal and the fuel tank was a sortof a galvanized type finish. The top of the gas tank was a part of the trunk floor and if yours is not going to be covered by a trunk mat, then it is the same galvanized kubd if finish - IF you are opening the trunk, that is. Hope this helped. -
Wow! That was a good score! Yeah, there are still some good deals on Ebay.. those good deals are to be had on anything that I am not looking at, it seems. But seriously, I have made some good buys and lost out on some too. A resin '60 Nomad station wagon with everything needed to build a stock model recently sold for next to nothing - I checked the auction less than an hour before it ended and I got side tracked and forgot all about it. It was a crazy making thing that ticks me off when ever I think of it...

Nice builds!!!!!! I like them both - the Pontiac is definitely unusual as most that you see built are 2 door hardtops. The colours are nice on both cars and they look real clean. I noticed that you really got a shine on both of them.. nice!
