1973 Ford Europe (U.S.A.: Lincoln-Mercury) Capri Mk I RS 2600
Dragline replied to Plastheniker's topic in Model Cars
I learned to drive a manual in my Uncle Steve's 78/79 Capri. It was an olive green I think. I don't think I've seen another in almost 30 years. Beautiful build. Bob -
Geez............. I guess I'll leave mine in the box. Gorgeous. Bob

...And yet I can't look away.

Thanks, I WAS having a great day........... -
This is not the clear bodied car from the mid 60's, this is late 60's early 70's just before Large Father went to the rear engine design. The last of his FED's if I'm not mistaken Bob
-
I did some digging and found out this has never been reissued before. There are many people who are very happy to see this one. This is not to be confused with the Wynns Jammer FED. This is after that but before the Swamp Rat 1R. Think 1969/70? Bob

This was re-issued before? When was that? I need to pay attention. Bob

I use Laquer thinner for Tamiya. It stinks like heck [actually sweet smelling], but it lays like Autumn leaves. I likw=e what I'm seeing Joe and Wayne..... Love those figures.. I'l have an update after I figure out why my compressor feels the need to take a vacation all of a sudden. I did get some paint on so I'll at least post those. Bob

Is anyone going to comment on this monumental thing? I mean really? Check out round2.com for more if you are in the dark.. Bob

I have started assembly on my Maschinen Kreiger Kuster. Since it's a lot like building armor [it actual is armor] a large percentage of the kit is assembled before painting begins. For a automotive modeler it seems counter intuitive. We auto modelers tend to only paint small subassemblies and end up assembling painted sections causing no end of problems for us. It actually makes us sharper since we have to handle carefully painted items as well as sanding joining edges for gluing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Here we see the engine and transmission section newly washed and sanded. Here is the rear of the gun turret with some sanding done. A bit more and some primer to check for flaws. Here is one leg section under the clamps. This section has about 15 parts and it's far from finished. Here are some accessories like the walking stabilizers, infa red pod and computer unit. Cannot wait to get the assembly done and get some serious primer flowing. i'll be using hair spray chipping and a multi color camo. I will also incorporate light rusting and battle damage here and there. As you can clearly see there are a great many nooks and crannies for wear and chipping as well as grease and oil streaks FUN, FUN, FUN.............. Bob

What sorcery is at work here sir??? That is the coolest build I've seen in a very long time. WIP pics so we can all copy it please. Bob

I built this for a customer in trade for kits and it was a fun build. I put some extra stuff into it and some light weathering but it builds up nicely. Be careful to keep the wall grooves clean and clear or assembling them will be a pain. The cans of oil were a PITA, and the stock hose doesn't really fall right so I replaced it. Bob

I'm with you on the fumes, but for me it's about drying time. Acrylics just dry so much faster than even laquers. And they really have almost no scent by the time you have cleaned the airbrush. I do have some oils that I bought for washes as well. It's a bit old fashioned but oil washes have a certain appearance that is tough to beat. So I will be using those as well. But the large portion will be acrylics. Bob

I can believe that about the exhaust. I bought 3 sets of Vallejo acrylics and spent 2 hours last night futzing around with them. They cover so nice and go on so smoothly. I also made my own thinner as per a Youtube video and saved myself quite a bit. I made some extra washes and tried them on scrap and they are looking pretty good as well as the stock Vallejo ones I bought. Kuster assembly to begin pretty soon. Carry on. Bob

Close eh?? hehehe........ I should be starting sometime early next week or perhaps this weekend. I do have one car that needs to be finished that is a commission and I have been dragging my feet with for several months. That, and I'm waiting for my Vallejo acrylics to arrive. I bought quite a bit of Tamiya paint and also made my own thinner, but the Vallejo paints are the finishing touch for the look I'm going for here. That and i may start building armor which was always in the back of my mind for many years now. Bob

That looks great Wayne. I just bought a buttload of Vallejo acrylics on Amazon after watching their 4 part tank video. The layers and pin washes really do wonders to worn surfaces. I plan on using them on my Kuster build along with chipping and rust/grime washes. That rail brings it all together in my opinion. Bob eBay and Amazon should have a nice cross section of Ma.K to choose from. If you need any help let me know.

Got my Kuster & Friedrich today. I put the Mongoose kit box in for scale. It's a fairly good sized box jammed with parts. Box is chock full. These are multi media kits and come with springs wire and various detailing bits. Screen and some PE are usually included as well. Kuster has well over 100 pieces and Friedrich also has 100 plus. Should be good fun as I fire up the airbrush to battle with Ma.K and bring them to life. The cards you see are camo cards. They indicate which camo configurations some units used and the markings that accompany those units Bob

I'd like to join. Thanks to Wayne [AgentG] for inviting me. I've discovered a new world in part due to DrCranky and his video blog about Ma.K. If you don't know about Maschinen Kreiger it's possible you are missing out on some of the coolest stuff to come down the pike. I'll spare you who are not interested in the history lesson of Ma.K but this stuff has loads of potential. In particular is weathering, rust and chipping effects which I plan to use on my builds. I will be building the Kuster & Freidrich kit from Wave Mfg. 1/20 scale and detailed to the hilt these kits are not for the faint of heart and they also hurt the wallet quite a bit as well. I have several more kits in my stash already but I was really looking forward to building Kuster [The walker], and eventually Freidrich [the suit] as well. I am expecting this kit this coming week so look for an unboxing and a start. Bob

Beautiful build. I love the extra touches like the fuel shutoff. Paint is also very nice. Where did those decals come from? Bob

I am now totally into Ma.K and just found this when I did a search. This is a great looking Pawn build. I just bought quite a few kits and while not cheap they offer so many possibilities for weathering and chipping techniques i have been anxious to learn and apply. I may post a WIP of one here soon.
