Another one that got almost finished and then stashed. It's been complete for quite a while and it usually sits here at my computer desk to give me a giggle now and then. OOB with some parts box decals. I think it's Tamiya French blue, with K&S injector stacks and reworked exhaust. I also redid the antennae and since I am a NAPA employee I found this GPC logo on a flyer and made the flag. Dave Deal was the man, R.I.P. Dave. Bob Ooooops, almost forgot. I handpainted the flowers on his shirt.

THAT is just Killer Bob. I love everything about it.... I'm digging the blue dots, very clever to add them. As soon as mine gets here I'm going to jump right into it. I'm thinking Root Beer metal flake as a possible color. I don't have any gold BMF so I may have to fake that with some clear orange/yellow acrylic mix. These Dave Deal kits are the Shiznit. Bob -
Looks great. Build another for yourself dude. On those alternators I like to hit the recesses with a copper color so it looks like the windings. Try it on your next one. Great build. Bob

I started this kit about 2 1/2 years ago. I was looking through some kits and realized it was 90% done so I sat down and finished it. Mostly Vallejo acrylics with a Future barrier. I couldn't get the pilot in there and get the canopy on right so his finished head is roiling around in the box. Dave Deal kits are a blast and this is about my 10th complete of his. The Go Mad Nomad is next. Bob

A little update here. I decided to rework the header since drilling them was proving frustrating. I am making them out of aluminum and after a bit of cleaning up and Alclad they should be much better. I am almost done with the drivers side which was tricky since the steering shaft goes between the center two. Here is the pass side mock up and the blower belt correctly routed. Bob

I also think it looks excellent Tom. And it appears you have availed yourself to newer techniques as well. Nothing like an old dog picking up some new tricks. The acrylics can be tricky to work with initially, but you will be rewarded once you've mastered them. Very few people threw down a flawless Laquer or Enamel paint job their first time out. There was a curve to those just like acrylics. I airbrush acrylics and get some great results, but I had to work with them for a while to get there. The Armor and Aircraft guys have been using them for years now with incredible results. Look up Vallejo Air or just Vallejo on Youtube and see what can be achieved. The can be translated directly to automotive subjects. Keep building. Bob -

I'm one of those "post" boomers having been born in 1965. I built when I was very young [iE: 7-10], then stopped when I got my first skateboard. Grew a bit and didn't return to model cars till about 82-83. I was stoked to see my fave maker [Monogram] had Pro Stocks and Funny Cars on the shelf. I scooped em all up. And waited for more. More really didn't arrive at all for some time. Then The Top Fuel and Funnys came back in the 90's and once again I scooped em up. The only problem was it was the same kit over and over again. I got tired of that and I guess this is where we are. The last kit was i think either the Bud King or the Snap-On dragster. Looking at the recent Hawaiian and Chi-Town cars one can see the ease with which those were agreed upon. Relatively no sponsor decals at all on either of them. Certainly no Goodyear logos. And with only the frame variation they got a two fer for 95% of the kit. I guess it is out of the realm of possibility we will ever see a new drag racing subject ever again. More's the pity. Bob

Is Art's reasoning the actual story behind no new NHRA kits being offered today? Drag Racing is very strong right now, ticket sales are up, coverage on ESPN is solid and they even play it twice for those who miss the live show. Is it really just licencing that is keeping them from being made? When was our last crop of NHRA kits? The vintage stuff seems to be selling. If not then the reissues from present and near future seem ill advised. Yet I suspect they are selling well. How many kids watched Garlits race his last FE digger? It's coming in a couple of months. The Malco Gasser got a revised nose, decal sheet and the whole retro package treatment from Round2. How about the Deals Wheels stuff? I realize the parts count is low on those but they are fussy kits and not really Kid worthy or even first kit worthy IMO. I love them but they take skill to be presentable. I realize those were reissues and the molds exist, so is it bankable for small runs in this regard? Art? What's your take on NEW NHRA kits and the reissue market.. Bob

Muscular and dark, what a muscle car should be. This is the first time I've ever truly liked a build of this kit. I've seen many well built ones here but for some reason they all looked like real ones. What I mean is that most of the actual cars didn't appeal to me all that much either. This one has that "thing", "It" if you will. I'm diggin it. Bob

Phil is correct. The blue light does need to be removed. I just thought it looked so cool but of course by this time in the movie his "police: status meant nothing. PowerPlant, there is a resin conversion out there that has the full Falcon Xb body with trunk and spoiler. You use this kit as a basis since it provides the light [see above comment] as well as full interior side panels, rear wheels and a few other details. As the car progresses through the first two [and really only two, Thunderdome? Really?] good movies. It morphs from actual MFP vehicle to what I have built here This car has the big tanks obviously, as well as the missing spoiler and gutted interior. The rear wheel are only available in this kit also. This is the kit you are looking at here. It has all the parts you need to build either version if you also get the resin conversion for the first type when Max see's it in the MFP basement. Thanks for all the kind words as well. Bob

I used Vallejo Rust wash for the undercarriage and still have to secure earth to it and shoot Iso to finish it completely. What a blast to build and it looks the part IMHO. Get one while you can. Bob

One of my favorite movies and cars of all time, the fabled V8 Interceptor. Here it is in its final configuration, road worn all almost out of petrol. This was such a fun build and i thank Aoshima for upgrading it with PE, chain and cardboard Dinky Dog dog food boxes. The interior is a masterpiece of accuracy to the original. You basically pick the correct parts, shoot em semi black and that's it. I painted the flat black hood and sides but only the hood is clear to see. I used Vallejo pigments for the red earth and secured it with isopropyl from my airbrush.

Wow, first time anyone has called my model anything superb. High praise indeed and I thank you sir. I am digging the color as well. It's Duplicolor Perfect Match BGM0539 Lt Mett Blue and BCC0422 Intense blue pearl for those who are digging them. I think the Lt Blue is a dead nuts on flake wise for the real car if a shade darker overall. The wheel flares were airbrushed with Tamiya metallic blue thinned a bit. I think I'm going to change the blower belt since the idler should direct the belt to the inside not outside like I have it. These Duplicolor paints do like to blush so make certain it's pretty dry when you use them. But after experimenting I found that even large blush spots completely dissappear with clearcoat on them. I finished the headers and am about to blue them with some acrylic and the seats are done. What a pain it was painting those dark blue stripes on those little seats. Pics perhaps by Sunday. I should have it finished by the beginning of the week. Bob

Hyperbole is the standard way of communicating in this modern day. Everything is "Extreme" and :Sexiest". Items and people in this world can no longer exist without some retched tag exclaiming their unique status or rarity and beauty. Kim Kardashian is no more the worlds most beautiful woman than my ex-wife is. Both are built wonderfully, and both are completely vapid and have sub standard IQ's. Easy on the eyes, with little substance beneath it all. There is a good argument for the 67 Scaglietti Charlie linked to. A Cobra and E-Type are also waaaaay high on my list. And that Gullwing? MaMa Mia!!!!! [Yeah, I know it's German] In the end, they are all the finest forms of car sculpture ever to roll of the line. You couldn't go wrong with picking any one and enjoying it for a lifetime. Bob

Thanks for the kudos fellas. I must say that the kit instructions for this kit are typical 70's MPC. Lots of ambiguous parts placement call-outs and questionable mating surfaces. It's almost like the builder must be his own machine shop and test fitting everything is an absolute must. I think I removed every locating pin on the kit before I glued a single part together. I also removed about 40% of the chrome as well. The seats are proving tricky to paint since they have dark blue stripes on a few of the tuck and roll parts. It gave me fits tonight but since I'm using acrylics, if i don't like the result some reduced ammonia removes the paint for another try. I thought far enough ahead to use white laquer for the seat paint so it is unaffected by my goof-ups till I get it perfect. It's still a great kit that is going to look unique in my display case.

In between a multitude of commision builds i have somehow found some time for a few of my own. I have a Mad Max II build which just needs a few glamour shots to be considered finished. But between all these Aviation, Armor and Maschinen Kreiger builds i have found time for my personal passion Drag Raciing. Here is a sorta WIP already well along for the latest modified reissue of the 1967 Malco Gasser Mustang. I used Acryilic paints almost exclusively through my airbrush. I used Tamiya and Vallejo Acrylic paints throughout this build. The only mods were a scratchbuilt blower drive since the stock one was pathetic and a few other mods not worth mentioning. The Acrylic clearcoat was not polished since the originals were not perfect. I did use Duplicolor color coats that I had om hand for the light and dark blue colors. i also used MM buffing metalllics where I felt they were needed. The finished model will be shown soon here in the Drag Racing section.
