1:1 Cars that had an effect on you, and why.
Dragline replied to Rodent's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My neighbor's brand new 1970 Z28 was it for me. I was completely in love at first sight. I liked the 69's well enough, but his sister babysat me and I was head over heels for her [at 6]. That car really put cars in general on the map for me. Before that it was the odd Matchbox or Hotwheel. Of course motorcycles were all I really knew in those days. My dads was the best and his Bro's were OK too. Everyone else's stunk as far as I was concerned. Bob -
Started as a wagon...... I had to re-read it. Superb execution. I think we can let the black knob slide....

A simple FED. This is from the Young American kit.

Very nice indeed Sir. -
I'll be sure to tell him John.

This is typical Norm Veber packaging. He goes to great lengths to cast things of beauty and then package them so they arrive as perfect as they came out of the molds. Norm is a very detail oriented guy, and it has been my pleasure to get to know him over the years. You should see how he sets up at our MAMA meetings. Always meticulous and affable, and always willing to chat about what you may need and see if he can do it. Norm is the BEST for these reasons and many others. I will see him this coming Saturday and will probably get one of these for my stash. Get one while you can guys. Bob

Loving this build and all your extras. I have a few kits here and I plan on making a replica of my own bike soon. It's strange that only the Tamiya kits have the rocker bolts on the shovels. All my asian kits lack this detail. I'll just drill and scratch em, but it seems an odd omission to me. I also love that green chop/bob but I was always told green bikes were bad luck unless they were WLA or X models. Of course this is just old bike lore I picked up from the many biker types I have run into through my father and his various/nefarious dealings with that world. Watching and waiting to steal some tricks....... Bob

Building season is back! 1904 De Dion Bouton
Dragline replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking really fine Harry. I love your process, it always makes me smack my head in a "Duh" for not having thought of a particular technique. Because of your WIP's I have bought several cans of the paints you've indicated and the results are very good. It's appreciated. Bob -
New Polar Lights Full-Glue Batmobile Kit
Dragline replied to ranma's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Deluxe versions are also available at Amazon at reasonable prices. It's definitely worth the extra dough for the Ultimate Batmobile IMHO. It's where I got mine last year and I'm happy to have it. Bob -
Geez Cato, not sure what to say that hasn't been said. Museum Quality for certain as stated above. Going the extra ten miles is seriously paying off dude. Bob

Got mine today and the frame is dead nuts straight. Hopefully that was an isolated incident. This is quite a package with the transfer and retro boxing. I also got my Buddy Baker Charger in the same shipment. What an epic kit this Charger is. I have the Petty kit as well so knew what to expect, but this just takes me back.. I'll post some pics later after I've swilled a beer or two and relaxed from the days work. Bob

Dragline replied to ranma's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, I bought resin ones like the ones pictured over a year ago. Since I have both glue versions i guess I'm good. Thanks -
When I get mine [tomorrow], I'll post pics of the box and contents. Bob

Hopefully mine is straight but I'll check right away. If it's bad, I'll get right in touch. Thanks for reminding me of this. Bob

With the glue kit and Deluxe versions available I'd be curious as to the differences. Are there any? -
Great! I have one coming via mail order.

I have a cotton glove I use. I look like Michael Jackson at times I guess since I only use one.

Testors/Italeri Ferrari 250 GTO
Dragline replied to Dragline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My understanding is the metal frame must be cut as well as a few other items. He explained it but I have since forgotten the details. You could always e-mail Norm and ask. I decided on this route not so much as a dodge but for less expense. That Gunze kit vairies from 75.00 to well over 100.00, with over being the norm. Add the motor expense and PE and wheels and we are talking 200.00 just for the way I'm going. I paid 56.00 for this kit in case anyone was interested. They can and do go for more, I feel I got a deal. Bob -
Testors/Italeri Ferrari 250 GTO
Dragline replied to Dragline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks fellas.... The KA set is in my wish list on Amazon as I thought it looked the best, but the HD set also did look good as well. Thanks for the pix Bill and the fact that it drops in is certainly a bonus. I was pretty sure that picking the base kit was probably the most important part outside of securing Norms motor. I moved to Baltimore in 98 Bill so I wasn't there at all during the 90's. In fact, I didn't get to my first meeting until about 4-5 years ago. I go when I can but work makes it tough. I may end up getting the KA PE set and sourcing some wheels as well. That should do the trick. I can scratch other parts and maybe bash a few things along the way. I really appreciate you guys dropping some knowledge. That's the reason I come here every day. Bob -
Really super build. You did what I did on mine and added metal tips to the headers. I think it adds a nice touch and your paint choice is also very clever. I painted mine Tamiya Lt Green but that Ice looks fantastic. Bob

I have a couple of questions concerning a dream build I am putting together and wanted some opinions of my choices. Last year I decided to build a super detailed 250 GTO. My first stop was at a MAMA meeting where I purchased a R&M of M Ferrari engine off Norm Veber. He made me a fresh one and was kind to throw some extra goodies in for me and was helpful about a few things concerning a high detail build. He said that either the Testors/Italeri or Fujimi kits are THE place to start for such a build. He also explained the hazards of going with the Gunze high tech kit but explained the rewards of such an endeavor. So, I have the engine kit and just purchased a sealed Testors/Italeri kit. I know I'll need a wire wheel set and see a few to choose from but here is the main question I have. What PE set would be best for this kit? There is no maker who says their kit works for the Italeri specifically. I see kits for the Hasegawa and Fujimi cars and they look good. They are all 1/24th scale so scale isn't an issue but things like the headlight bezels will be made with a particular kit in mind so fit could be problematic. My question then becomes. Which PE set has the best chance for success? If I can use all the available PE parts so much the better but I can live with a few not being perfect if they are tweakable. I can live with not being able to use it all if for the large part I can use the majority of the kit. Which kit offers the most parts usage and parts count? Any and all answers are very much appreciated. Bob
