  1. I owned only vehicles w/ manuals until I was 30...after that, I've had two automatics (and still a couple manuals)...certain vehicles just aren't offered w/ manuals. I don't mind an automatic in an SUV or a luxury sedan (which my daily drivers have been the last decade).
  2. Younger drivers in general have only been exposed to FWD cars and didn't grow up learning to drive RWD, so I could see how that would be a problem..different handling dynamics, esp. in inclement weather. I'm glad I grew up w/ RWD and manual transmissions, and only once had a FWD car (never again).
  3. Technology continues to move forward. Automakers adapt technology to build better, more efficient cars. It's been that way since ancient times when cars had hand cranks and wooden wheels. Imagine if automobiles hadn't progressed in the last 100 years (though some of the luddites would probably like that).
  4. Sad to hear...the 911 is still my favorite sports car..what a classic design.
  5. As far as maps, I have Rand McNally maps, Thomas Guide street maps of a few cities, Google maps and navigation on my phone, and OnStar in one car, so I'm not worried about getting lost..
  6. Sharp build.
  7. On non-performance vehicles, I like the idea of moving the shifter off the center console to make room for more cubbies, bigger cupholders, etc. I think the old school column shifts worked well. Now on a performance car, I'd rather have a proper manual (w/ at least 6 speeds) but manuals are getting harder and harder to find. But I still need cup holders--I like my venti triple shot cinnamon dolce lattes from Starbucks.
  8. Ahhh...IRS in that sense...not in the April 15th sense..
  9. By the way, doing a Google image search on '1990 Cadillac Brougham' turns up a bunch of pics of stock and modified 4drs (the Revell kit is an '80-84 Coupe de Ville with 1990-1992 Brougham trim).
  10. Yeah, the kit lowrider wheels are tiny...like 13 inch or so...stock ones would be 15 inch. Maybe the ones from the AMT '65 Riviera could be used...
  11. Hmmmm....nothing that I know of. Though a lot of the '80-90s Fleetwood Broughams had wire wheels.. I saw one somewhere that someone had built w/ wide whites and '59 Cadillac hubcaps which looked surprisingly good on it, IMO.
  12. A number of current minivans are like that, incl. the current Chrysler ones..
  13. No, it has an engine..the kit builds up very similar to the Revell '91 Caprice taxi/'95 Impala SS kits if you are familiar w/ those.. Revell's website has it listed as a new release for this month, which usually means it will show up last week of the month at the priority hobby shops and the first week of the following month everywhere else...
  14. Planning ahead. Model Roundup lists it for May, so I figure it will be at the LHS by the end of this month...I got one of the first releases years ago to do lowrider style w/ Pegasus gold wheels, this one I'm thinking Pro Touring style w/ an LS v8 (got the engine from an '02 Camaro Z28 to use).
  15. Check the 'What did you get today' thread for pictures of the box art..
  16. Mailman just dropped off a couple packages..one from Model Roundup and one from Model Express...2 of the '55 Chryslers (love the box art and instructions), the AMT '65 Chevelle reissue, and some Pegasus wheels & tires & brakes that I plan to use on the reissue Revell Caddy custom Coupe de Ville..
  17. Well, Chrysler did have the push button automatics 50 years ago..think of this as an update of that idea. Makes sense in some vehicles, frees up some space in a center console where a shifter would be.
  18. The mailman just dropped my two off...happy happy. Some days working from home has it's advantages.
  19. That's one I never knew existed. Didn't realize Fujimi did any American subjects back then.
  20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20_mule_team To haul wagons full of borax from mines across the desert to the railroad..
  21. I find the desert pretty boring....I find big cities way more interesting..
  22. I remember seeing ads for the kit in magazines probably 30 years ago. I've never been up to Death Valley...will have to go sometime...usually when I drive across the void I'm in a hurry to get to the coast...
  23. Yeah, more like stale...Ed always adds something 'special' to a thread w/ his incoherent ramblings...
  24. Sharp. Looking forward to the Revell kits.
