Grand Canyon - North Rim Lodge "controlled burn" down
Rob Hall replied to 89AKurt's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Sad...went there about 15 years ago. Only been to the North Rim a couple of times, I've stayed at El Tovar at the South Rim a couple of times, probably been to the Grand Canyon South Rim a dozen times going back to 1981 when I first visited AZ as a kid (my older sister moved to Phoenix in '80 after getting married after college, I didn't move to Phoenix until 2008 but visited often in the 90s-00s...- 8 replies

What did you see on the road today?
Rob Hall replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nah, just an '80s Chevy step side that has been lowered and has larger wheels and tires. -
Thinking about a late model S550 Shelby GT500 or late model Cadillac CT5 V-series Blackwing.

Never owned a turbocharged or supercharged car, but I have driven modern CUVs with tiny 4cyl turbos--my sister's Chevy Trax and Equinox, both had turbo 4s. Not performance cars, but decent point A to point B economy CUVs. Good gas mileage. A supercharged car may be in my future, though.

Beautiful Cougar..reminds me a lot of my folks' '68...same color inside and out, theirs had a 302 2bbl w/ 3spd manual.. no power steering or power brakes! My Dad bought it in 1974, my Mom drove it a lot into the 80s. I drove it a few times after I got my driver's license. It wasn't driven much had under 100k miles, went to my older brother and then was auctioned off w/ his cars a few years ago after he passed. My Dad also had a '67 Cougar, 289 2bbl, 3spd manual, no power steering or brakes in Lime Frost. Unfortunately, that has been off the road for 40 yrs and has a lot of bondo. MY brother also had a '68 XR-7 in royal maroon w/ white top and white interior w/a. 390 4bbl and auto.

Volvo has offered a 4cyl w/ both a turbocharger and a supercharger in recent years. Kind of an interesting idea.

New F1 movie. Anyone interested??
Rob Hall replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I enjoyed it... saw it in IMAX. -
I did get some discounted dog food & treats (food and treats I normally buy from Amazon). I've noticed other retailers are also doing Prime Day/Prime Week sales of their own--I scored some Mattel Creations Hot Wheels and Matchbox premium die cast deep discounted today.

My neighbor across the street has a sweet '64 Comet convertible, pale yellow w/ black interior. Also has a '53 Ford pickup and a '32 3 window coupe rod. -
So everything new is mo better, huh?

Reminds me of my friend Steve in Denver.. Colorado is a two plate state, the front plate is required. He bought a '91 Acura NSX back in '99 from a one plate state, didn't have a front bracket..he's driven it the last 26 years with the front plate lying on the passenger side of the dash against the windshield...don't think he's ever gotten a ticket for the plate. I bought my current Jeep Grand Cherokee in Arizona, no front plate or bracket...moved to Ohio and had to get a front bracket installed for the front plate..2 years after I moved back, Ohio dropped the two plate requirement.. -

Just walked out to check the mail and saw a gorgeous white ‘64 Pontiac Bonneville convertible go rolling by, top down. -

Yeah, not sure why the renderings have the drag hood if it’s supposed to be stock. -
I've heard of them, but don't think I've ever bought from them.

Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
Rob Hall replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ah..interference engines. The one Neon owner I have known IRL had a first gen he bought new and put about 450k on it over 20 years commuting in the SF Bay Area. I saw it when it was about 15 years w/ over 300k at the time. It had held up pretty well, other than peeling paint. He traded it about 10 years ago on a Mini Countryman when he moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. -

Haven't seen a Neon on the road in many years it seems like. They seem to have all rusted away here. -
Heh heh...they are good dogs...I didn't really do anything, they sit there and watch me when I'm in the kitchen (I'm standing behind a dog gate at the kitchen doorway to the living room, and they watch me from the sofa).

Yeah, I always bid in the last 10 sec, usually successful.

My ideal temperature range would be 50F to 80F. 85F with or without humidity is too warm for me.

I've been buying models (built, unbuilt, old and new), promos, resin, 3D printed kits and parts, and die cast from eBay since 1997. Only a handful of transactions went sideways.

I built the Revell SN-95 kits back in the day, but never the AMT ones. Might get one and change the wheels and tires. -
