'53 F-100 Engine Swaps , 6 or 8 Cylinders
Mr. Metallic replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm not sure why you want to toss the DeSoto engine if you're trying to stay "period correct" That engine has been in the kit since it was tooled in the early 60's and is based on the 1:1 mid-50's engine. But if you're looking for something different from box-stock I agree with David that because the engine compartment on that truck is so big, you can fit just about anything in there. I'm really digging your idea of a Nailhead, but that's because I have an affinity for them. -
Resin body slowly dying!!
Mr. Metallic replied to Lorne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank you Lorne for sharing your experience. it's sad that all your work is slowly turning into a twisted mess. Curious, who made the body? If you're reluctant to say I understand. But everyone else, lets not jump to "the resin sky is falling" mentality. First off, not all resin is the same. I have resin bodies in my stash that are now 25+ years old, not a single sign of warping. Then other bodies from 5 years ago, some warping. -
This! All of this! Our insurance rate DOUBLED when we added our first teen driver a few months ago when he turned 16. Now we have a 15 year old and a 14 year old right behind him (blended family) And the "millennial" anti theft device? Works on a lot of the Gen-X generation too. I'd say less than 50% of my generation can drive stick. And that's not our fault. Trying to find a running stick shift that wasn't a truck or sports car when i was learning to drive? Good luck . Near impossible these days.

Doesn't say that in the title. All it says is Revell 2020 Regardless, now we have a thread dedicated to Revell USA releases for 2020. Anyone feel free to start the actual discussion? Or is there no discussion to be had since there is no formal announcement yet? What about hold-over from 2019 that didn't make it? Is there anything? '29 roadster is the only thing I can think of even mentioned for 2020, which has been confirmed by Ed Sexton, but no formal release date having been announced.

'32 Ford roadster gluebomb rework. April 26: back on track
Mr. Metallic replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes! Ace is back on the 32 roadster! I love combing through all your build threads multiple times. I'm always learning something from you. -
There's a gap at the top where it meets the roof because it wasn't designed to be used with the convertible up-top. That chopped top piece was designed to be used with the Victoria style top that was only included in the first issue of the kit. i think it also works with the Carson style top that was dropped after the first issue as well (I believe) The Carson top was modified into the half roof I'll be following along. The improvements you're making will make a big difference in the end

Well, since the old thread on this topic got locked I feel it's important to have a thread dedicated to this topic that we can still use openly. The old one didn't really contain much info on Revell USA announcements, just the Revell Germany (European market) announcement.

i'm really digging the flavor on this. The roof masking seems to be progressing smoothly, looking forward to seeing how it turns out

Greg Wann Resin Scale Auto article
Mr. Metallic replied to disconovaman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Mods might have an issue with this. I appreciate what you're trying to do, heralding Greg Wanns products since he's a member and offers nice product. I expect featuring 2 full pages may be an issue. Not just because of competition, but copyright? Of course, I could be wrong. Regardless, congrats to Greg Wann for recognition of his excellent product -
Nice job of taking the old standby revell 32 roadster and making it a standout. The racer vibe with the 12 spoke wheels and "moon" tank really sells t. And the color is sweet. Nice job

Man, that came out great. Glad you persevered, despite the paint issues. Cool concept, great execution. the detail of the mesh on the grille and taillights is a nice touch

Are the MPC 1978 Dodge trucks at HL?
Mr. Metallic replied to GMP440's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not everyone has a LHS. And online merchants often charge a bunch in shipping. In my case, if I have marginal interest in a subject that I wouldn't be willing to spend full retail, I don't mind buying with a 40% coupon. -
Thank you for doing the legwork on that

Anything New at Hobby Lobby?
Mr. Metallic replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Still seeing lots of Mount_n_Goats on eBay that were clearly bought at HL because the price sticker is still on there. Even worse is when they leave the clearance sticker on them and then put the minimum bid at 20 ? -
Very nice looking street rod. The interior improvements that you have made really compliment the overall feel of the build. Nicely done

Anything New at Hobby Lobby?
Mr. Metallic replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They do it at least once a year, sometimes more. here is the link to the thread concerning this years summer clearance... -
Revell has been making new 1/16 scale kits recently. Mostly VW's and Porsche's. My understanding is they are quite well done as well.
-
Revell offered reboxed version of the Fujimi kits. Others will have to fill you in on liveries offered in this line.

Thanks for this info. I've looked at the Thom Taylor kit a ton of times since it was released years ago. I always looked at that cabriolet body and threw it right back in the box. I just couldn't get excited about that body style. Now I have ideas forming in my brain with the easy conversion idea you provided. Thanks!
-
Nice work so far, especially with the body, which can be tricky on this kit. Good job backdating and improving the running gear as well.

You guys do realize this is the Revell GERMANY announcement? Revell USA is a separate entity both owned by the same company (Blitz). So, just because there's not a lot of US market stuff on the list I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Actually, 4 out of the 9 announced items are US subjects, pretty good representation of US domestic auto kits intended for the European market.

EDIT: Missing Link Resin STILL IN BUSINESS!!!
Mr. Metallic replied to Dys's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If the OP can't change it anymore, Mods absolutely can... Edit- I messaged the mods to update this and they have. -
EDIT: Missing Link Resin STILL IN BUSINESS!!!
Mr. Metallic replied to Dys's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Could you possibly change the title of your post now that you know they in fact aren't "gone"? I know the ability to edit posts is only available for a limited amount of time, so possibly a mod could change the title as to stop the rumors? Sadly, in this day and age many people only read the headlines ? -
With their recent streak of offering kits with "extras" (60 pickup, 86 Elco, 66 Elco, etc) this kit would fit right in with that methodology. Or maybe release the cycle a s a parts pack? It's fun to daydream

Upcoming Car Kit News from NNL Motor City
Mr. Metallic replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
To me it looks like only one "chrome" option, the Halibrand style wheels that were originally in the 30 Coupe. On the builtups the set on the black car appears to have its centers painted. Here's a closeup of the side of the box...
