Touring cars (Phaetons) in plastic
Mr. Metallic replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The 27 T touring from the double kit became the Vintage Police Car kit shown here. That was reissued a few years ago. -
Pro Touring-ish Build - Need Advice
Mr. Metallic replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What about the "crossover" FI unit from the Revell 67 Corvette from a few years ago. It looks like the unit from the Accurate Miniatures 63 Grand Sport racers, but I believe it's a modern FI version. -

51 Chevy Carson top?
Mr. Metallic replied to Jantrix's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I used the Carson style top from the Revell 48 For convertible on my 51 Chevy. Fit really well with very minor sanding from what I remember. Wish someone would cast that top because it fits on lots of other bodies too. -
When I picture a bubbletop on a hot rod this comes to mind.

I agree. Admin, please pin this!

Revell doesn't keep reissuing their engine parts packs. They reissued them once, and according to inside sources, they sold poorly upon release. You can still find people at swap meets and on ebay selling them for original retail price or less. Because of these "poor sales" they scrapped the plans they had to reissue the motorcycle parts packs. However, I wish they would revisit their parts packs, especially the motorcycles, and the engines that didn't get reissued (especially the Buick). I mean, look at the success that Round 2 has had with theirs! If they weren't successful they wouldn't keep coming out with new ones, would they?

call me stupid but
Mr. Metallic replied to bubbaman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I seem to remember hearing that superglue(cyanoacrylate) was invented as to stop bleeding of small wounds on the battlefield by the armed forces. But man, those fumes are something. Even using a dremel on fully cured superglue releases those fumes. Strong stuff -
Maybe an admin can go back and scrub all this 7 vs 8 distributor stuff from this thread? I found on another forum where someone was bad mouthing Revell for a stupid mistake concerning this distributor stuff, and it's not even a mistake. When there is a legit error with final tooling of a kit, I'm all about identifying it. But since this issue has been found to be untrue maybe it would be fair to Revell to wipe it off of here? And Chris, just to be clear, I don't have a problem with you calling it out. I'm glad you did.

Per Tim Boyds original post that started this thread... "This introduces a second set of wheels, a plated set of what are often referred to these days as “Halibrand" and/or “Speedway” mags, in shallow/n/deeper offsets, with a set of matching three-prong style knockoffs. (For a better look at these wheels in unplated/painted form, see the upper right corner of the June, 2015 issue of Scale Auto magazine, and the bottom of page 25 of the same issue.) "

Very nice woodwork, similar to the Lincoln Blackwood pickups from a few years ago. Nice build overall.

That looks great. Well done. Love the weathering and backdrop as well.

That's awesome. I'm hoping mine turns out as good as yours. -
Such a great looking car, and your replica does it justice. I know there is the 1/16 kit, is your build 1/25?

Well, I'll probably end up going the pro touring route, so I'll probably use the street machine version of the 71 Duster. The incidentals under the hood for a stock conversion won't affect me. Thank you everyone one your advice. I'm sure there are replica stock builders out there who appreciate your insight on the conversion.

So, the Revell Dart is a better transplant than the AMT 71 Duster for an accurate 69 Cuda?

Bonneville Go-Kart Source?

Price may not be accurate, as it's an old picture. Contact Rep+Min for current pricing and availability -

Not necessary with this one. There is no roll bar hoop over the driver, the seat fills up the entire opening to the rear bodywork. I'm sure the real car has a hoop, but it's not visible on the completed model. So, I can slide the frame in through the front, and slip the seat in through the cockpit opening and I should be good to go. Worked on molding the two halves of the body together last night. Should be ready for paint soon if all goes well. BTW, Steve, thanks for the "roll tape" idea. -
Bonneville Go-Kart Source?
Mr. Metallic replied to oldcarfan's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
No problem Jeff. What I have is just a drop in the bucket compared to the total offering from Rep+Min. Since they don't have a website, I like to share with others as a reference tool on occasions just like these. Their stuff, IMHO, is the standard by which all other casters should be compared (along with Modelhaus) -
So, has anyone performed the swap of the modern tool Duster chassis under one of these Cudas before? Care to share?
