  1. Couple of more pics Tks for looking Dave B
  2. HI guys, Have just finished this build. Using Monogram's 2D, wheels from an LS 2C, resin tyres and a bit of scratchbuilding. Pics of this car at Daytona are few & far between but I have both Falconer's & Freidmans Chaparral books plus Friedmans Shelby GT40 which has a nice drivers side pic taken during practice. Will post a couple of more pics as well. Dave B
  3. Nice build Shawn. I can hear the booing from here!!!

    B.A.T. 5

Love the B.A.T's, very nice build Raul Dave B
  5. Nice build Matt & thanks for the build comments. I didn't buy one originally & kicked myself later for not doing so. Walked into a local shop around 2 months ago and there was a re-release so quickly picked it up & added it to the cupboard!! Dave B

    Chaparral 2C

Ed, interior shot as promised Since Fujimi has re-released Modeller's 2D these wheels are now readily available at a reasonable price. Another reason to do a body swap is the mesh areas are very shallow. I DIDN"T mask them off and should have. After acrylic undercoat & auto top coat I lost the opportunity to do a nice clear wash in the vent areas!! Dave B

    Chaparral 2C

OK guys, thanks for the kind words. I'll try & answer all the questions!!! Ed: I'll take a couple more pics & post shortly. I don't generally take 'close-ups' because I don't have a macro lens but will see what I can do. Cato: it's just MDF with printable scenery glued on (I cheated!!) see http://www.cgtextures.com Joe, Allen, Monty: The best place to get the Arii release is Hobbylink Japan. http://www.hlj.com/ They may not have it available at the moment but it is ALWAYS re-released so check there frequently. Bare in mind you will not get the webers or good wheels. The L&S release would be virtually impossible to find, you could check E-Bay from time to time. Harry: you're quite right, there are other flaws as well, I have not 'meshed out' the centre panel on the rear. I have actually thought of buying a L&S release and doing a cleaner build, I would just transfer all the bits across. Dave B

    Chaparral 2C

This is a build of the initial 2C release by L&S. It came with the white metal IDA webers, reasonable interior and correct wheels, the same as included in the Modellers/Fujimi 2D. It has since been re-released by Arii but has terrible 'thingy' wheels and no IDA webers, just a set of straight tubes. The interior may also be a little more toy like. Tks for looking Dave B
  9. Beautiful build William, that is VERY impressive Dave B
  10. Tks guys, it was nice for the opportunity to 'go back' Dave B
  11. Three more, sorry guys!! Thanks for looking Dave B
  12. I remember building my first ever model in a hotel room in Launceston, Tasmania. It was just under 50 years ago, I must have been around 12 or 13 at the time. It was a Merit Lancia Ferrari & needless to say it did not turn out well & disappeared some time later. I thought the chances of seeing one again, at a reasonable price, was slim. Well around 10 years ago a long time mate of mine was clearing out his junk box & asked did I want a Merit body. It was the Lancia Ferrari but nowhere near complete. Top & bottom of clam shell body, 1 each front & rear wheel and that was about it. With a little help from him, he cast 2 more wheel/tyre combo's for me and vac formed over a nose cone I carved out of MDF, I was ready to start scratch building the other bits. The only purchased part are the Herb Deeks wire wheel inserts. A couple of more pics to follow Dave B
  13. Nice save/build Jason. I have one built, must post it one day, and a spyder to build. You'll love the Lambo, have also built that but when I went to tidy it up to take some pics to post it I noticed the drivers door hinge is broken so be careful with yours Dave B
  14. Hi Shawn, Nice rendition of Beechey's early Monaro, congrat's Dave B
  15. And the bonus is it's been built for down here!!! Beautiful Jorge Dave B
  16. Hi Eric, That looks really good, great dash/steering wheel detail also Dave B
  17. That looks trick Dave, beautiful build Dave B
  18. Hi Brian, Off the full detail kit, I have a set on my 'curbside' 904 as well, will post some pics later. Dave B
  19. Hi Brian, They are in fact taken off a Monogram 904GTS wheel, the rears being widened with a band. The tyres are resins of the racing Dunlop's in the old IMC Ford GT kit Dave B
  20. Tks guys, at least 4 of the Arii kits are retools of the original L&S. I have both an L&S & Arii Chaparral 2C. The L&S has beautiful wheels/tyres, white metal webers & intakes, etc. Interior are identical though. If you find a L&S they are the one to buy iao Dave B
  21. Picked up an Arii Carrera 6 from HLJ a little while ago. Was a little disappointed with the kit but it gave me a reasonable base for a nice curbside. Biggest disappointment was the roof/glass cast as one piece, and thin/brittle to boot!! The wheels/tyres were rubbish and the interior basic. I was lucky to have some resin wheels/tyres that were passable and managed to cut down some seats and construct a passable racing interior. Had enough decals laying around to do a representation of the Targa Florio winning car, just minus the front & rear plates. Anyway, it was nice to be able to build a resonable model fo one of my favourite Porsches. Tks for looking Dave B
  22. Tks for the comments guys, appreciated. No it's just printable scenery glued flat onto mdf. The base is 'asphalt' & 'grass' and the background wall 'brick' Dave B
  23. A few more pics, sorry!!! Put to shame by some of the fully detailed coupes that are around, maybe I'll finish mine one day Dave B
  24. Love Cheetahs and was lucky enough to be given a Cox slot car body with a broken, and missing, roof. As I had a set of Fred Cady Cro-Sal decals what better than to build the only 'spyder' Cheetah. Pretty straight forward build as it is only a curbside, the most difficault part being finding enough period photo's to get the model to reasonably reflect the real thing. I'm sure no two scratch built Cro-Sal's are the same around the rear end!!! Anyway, thanks for looking. More pics to follow Dave B
  25. Beautiful build John, also fantastic close up photography, tks for sharing Dave B
