  1. Tks for the comments guys, appreciated. Hi Patrick, I have 3 more of Paul's kits, as I'm retiring tomorrow I may get a little more building time, wife permitting!!! Andy, I have thought of dry brushing the # on, I think that is the way I'll have to go. Skip, Just a curbside. You could open it up but the casting is fairly thick and would take considerable time. Ciao Dave
  2. Have just finished this one off. It's from Paul at Fisher Pattern & Model. Have yet to work out the most effective way of putting the race # on the mesh/grille. Only problem I had was not placing the oil cooler far enough over on the passenger side thus not allowing me to fit scratch made leather bonnet straps Tks for looking Dave B
  3. Tim, It's all been said mate, beautiful builds Dave B
  4. That's a nice build Steve, I have one in my to do cupboard. Did you use the decal for the orange stripe? If you did you got it to lay well over the NACA duct!! Dave
  5. Hi Dirk, That is pretty spectacular, I can't wait to see you start on the coupe version, a Zagato double bubble of course!!! Just kidding Dave
  6. Beautiful John, nice builds of a unique subject. All you need now is Rudi's coupe in the background!!! Dave
  7. Very nice clean build Jason. I too have one to build, had it for years but have not opened it, must check for damage!! Dave B
  8. Very nice Patrick, I take it the 1/24th 801 is a resin kit? Answered my own question, nice build from a slot car body!! Your friend from Tassie Dave B
  9. That's exceptional Erik, thanks for sharing Dave B
  10. You're right William, I refer to them as 'wobbly' as well. I did use the slot car inserts Bernard refers to to make my wheels Dave
  11. Hi guys, Thanks all for your kind words. Patrick, I looked at a lot of period photo's before settling on the paint schemes, only wish I had used the central roundel (on the bonnet) on the maroon/silver car and the offset roundel on the blue. Bernard, I made the waffle wheels. I used a inner wheel rim with a outside diameter that matched the Tamiya Super 7 tyre. I placed a '60's Lotus wheel insert from a slot car in it and made a mould of the wheel & tyre complete. It's not a 2 part mould, is also a little rough, but works nice under the XI's guards. It's always nice to save an old kit/toy. Thanks again Dave B
  12. Nice build Curt. I have yet to rebuild my original Merit version but will use Herb Deeks photo etched wires. I have used them on my Lancia Ferrari & Alfetta 158. Dave B
  13. A friend of mine managed to get 3 Merit's and a pair of Chinese friction toy Lotus XI's a little while back. The Lotus were bought on the understanding that I would probably get 1 out of the 2 available. I have been working on them for a while. I used resin seats, and wheel/tyre combination that I made up using the Tamiya Lotus 7 tyre and a 60's Lotus wobbly slot car insert. Headlight buckets are aluminium tube and I vacformed the headlight covers & screens after making a mould from DF for the full screen conversion Tks for looking Dave B
  14. Hi Don, FIA requirement, had to fit their suitcase!! Tks guys Dave B
  15. Tks Guys, Jim, perserve with getting one on e-bay. I did. I paid around USD50 for it as a complete slot car, good condition, no windscreen though. I did notice a resin body, cast from a Revell I think, up there the other week & it went for around USD115, ridiculous Dave B
  16. Brilliant, now all I need to do is print it off, sit down, read thoroughly then think it through!!!
  17. Tks guys appreciated
  18. I ordered a HRM 450S Maserati & a RHD GTO conversion from Kevin around 9 months ago and they has only just arrived. I didn't expect to be billed immediately (Paypal), that hurt a bit, but he was always responsive to my follow up e-mails. HRM are slow and I did make an allowance for that when ordering. PS, The 450S was worth the wait, beautiful!!
  19. Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. Bob, I used auto acrylic, just went to the local paint shop & asked for 100ml of Viking Blue. Phil, hard to guess it is your favourite Cobra!!! Tks Dave B
  20. A few more pics PS Pattos decals, not the best set I've ever had from him as they didn't want to adhere!! Tks again Dave B
  21. I have always wanted to build the Gurney Targa Florio Cobra. I could have bought either the Model Factory Hiro (expensive) or Historic Racing Miniatures (long wait) kits but once again really wanted to use the 60's Revell slot car body. The opportunity came up a couple of months ago when I actually won, for a change, a reasonable Revell slot car on E-bay for a FAIR price. Using a spare AMT 289 & Monogram 427 I set to work. Chassis, suspension & interior is from the AMT 289 but widened & lengthened. All the outer body bits are Monogram. Motor is Monogram Mustang. Dashboard, suitcase bumps and extractors are scratchbuilt, wheels I cast from my Gunze Sanyo Daytona coupe, Weber trumpesy are shoe eyelets a mate found for me Couple of more pics to follow, Thanks for looking Dave B
  22. Nice build Ron. Skip, it is 1/24th and Paul has a nice range of resins Dave b
  23. That's a nice clean build Jason
  24. Nice build Jurgen, I found mine came out reasonable straight from the box, just took some time Dave B
