  1. To keep my motivation on my other projects, I have started to tackle a '69-75 IH Travelall. Its been a slow build, but, I think the body has finally started to take shape.
  2. Been a bit since an update, but.....here is the first pour out of the hood mold. Still have to work on the bubbles, but, its not too far off!
  3. Looks like a nice kit!!! i'll have to add a couple to my stash..... Just a question..... The drive shaft has three u-joints in it, and no carrier bearing visable. Was it not installed when the pic was taken, or did I miss it? There has to be some sort of support for the drive shaft ahead of the mid u-joint or else it will bounce around! It also looks like the slip yoke for the rear section of the driveshaft is missing. This would allow the driveshaft to lenghten, and shorten as the suspension moves up and down.

  5. 4200 was 107"bbc 4300 was 117"bbc 4300 with big bore engines 120"bbc The longer bbc trucks also ususlly got a 1500 square inch radiator, in place of the standard 1200 square inch radiator

  8. That is added. I know of one builder that used heavy aluminum foil to replicate a similar material, or there was a product called lead foil available that was a heavier sheet that would hold its shape. Its been years since i've seen any. Bare Metal may work about the easiest, as it would have the wrinkles in it. That truck has been on the show circuit for a couple years, I think is been for sale for almost a year. Nice truck.
  9. If the transtars were like the Cargostars, loadstars, and just about anything IH built, it would have been a spray on sound-deadening/undercoating mix. IIRC, it was ashphalt based, with asbestos fibers fixed in. It has the texture of really rough bedliner. I'll check the books, but I don't think there was ever a "sheet" heat barrier, except an actual metal heat shield in specific areas.
  10. After finally getting some motivation, here are a couple of my builds I would like to try and finish...... Ford C-Cab Hy-Ranger Platform, Mack/Superior 100' mid-mount aerial, 84 Chevy 1 ton mini-pumper, Mack/Anderson Bronto Platform, Ford C-cab Rescue.
  11. Finally got the itch to start building again. Heres the first project I hope to finish. A 1976 IH Cargostar CF yard tractor. I picked up the 1:1 out of a salvage yard several years ago, and here is where the model sits at the moment.
  12. I have an early Dt466 on my bench to go with my light S conversion. The difference in the S line was the chassis weights, and BBC. The 16-1900 chassis had a BBC of 100.5", the 2200 series had a 91.3" BBC, the 2500 had a 111.6" BBC, and the 2600 had a 112" BBC. The 2600 had a set back axle, with a bumper to axle measurement of 48", while the others had a 34" bumper to axle(except the 2200 which had a 28") The 2200's were also usually fitted with the 90" wide cab, in place of the 80" cab. IIRC the 2574 tractor box has a 2200 on it. The quick way to tellis the 2 piece windshield. The DT is an IH engine, not a Detroit.
  13. I believe that the Ertl 4270 was modified into the 4300, and the CO4000 was modified into the Transtar II. So the originals may be lost. Since the Transtar II and the 4300 have been re-released in recent memory, I'd go for the S-Series....but it would be nice if they didn't have the V800 in them.
  14. Haven't had a whole bunch of time to work on it as of late. But, we did get a Loadstar in for salvage, so it has furnished me with alot more accurate dimensions. I will try to get a couple pics shot and posted tonite.
  15. That cab is a hard one to replicate with all of the curves on the front. It looks like you nailed it!!! As far as the Squad that was available, it was from 10-8 Hobbies, which closed up awhile ago. I do have his moulds for alot of the fire parts including the Squad parts. Unfortunatly, most of them are beyond using, and I'm having to start over. The Jbot decal set would have everything except the license plate, and the E51 lettering in white.

  20. I think I'm going to include a pair of interior sides, but, what does everyone thing about the floor? Most of us could handle cutting the kit floor to fit, can't we?? Tell me what you think!
  21. I left the extensions on until after I had painted the cab. They work great as "feet" to keep the cab up off the surface for painting.
  22. Tonights update..... Heres the cabs glued together Heres the roof ready for the ribs. And the roof with the ribs installed, and rough sanded. Thats it for tonight.....
