Polished aluminum look
Foxer replied to airbrush addict's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just did this on a crudely built welded (poorly) fuel tank. It's painted with Model Master Metalizer Lacquer Aluminum Plate. It has a couple coats and I polished it with a soft cotton cloth. [/url ] -
Bring back Annual Kits! edit: On second thought, not Annual .. every 5 years .. or they'd just be re-releasing the same kit for 5 years.

Ricardo says 'of course' when his "excellent" welds passed the leak test and can now be mounted in the trunk. That thirsty V12 will he happy too!

Why don't more kits have modern hanging seat belts? Well, maybe because we keep crying for '50 cars eheh

Rating himself as an "excellent" welder, Ricardo fired up the torch and laid down a weld that, if nothing else, sealed the aluminum fuel tank against leaks, if not a nuclear explosion of the engine. I can't wait to spray some aluminum paint on this! This afternoon after washing and drying.

Looks like that VW sideswiped a wall. Looks pretty good head on, but mostly like it was filed flat. An angled view would would give a better view of what you did. I'd be interested in a few more views.

That was pretty entertaining. I'd have to give him -2 points for knocking the ketchup over.

That old Dragstrip Girl. Love all the cars in this one.

I have used heat to dent, but it's still a bit roundish. The bumper was done with heat also. I've always wanted to try the aluminum foil method for a really crushed fender.

A dented fender would have paint damage with it. May have to work up to the right amount of heat needed slowly.

No intrest in Sport Sedans ?
Foxer replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ehehhe I love it . "Permanent Roof Convertible" .. I thought only new millennium marketing people were allowed to say things like that. -
There's really no way to sort the weathered from not, but you can find many because of the common use of the term "weathering" . Use Goggle to search this forum for "weathering" .. the forum search is not a good one. Paste this into Google to do it ... site:modelcarsmag.com weathering Replace "weathering" with any term you want to search for ..

This is a '55 Cameo I did as my first rusted working truck I also did a '53 VW Bug I owned when in Germany that was a bit banged up and I tried to replicate the 1:1 I did this replica on my daughters '85 GMC Van she called her "Hippie Van" .. was an old farm truck she got for cheap and, don't leave the Mouse Rod out of this Weathering is a blast .. can abandon all those cleanliness techniques you've spent years learning and just build and mess it up! I have to agree with Nick, though, we have way too many sections here as it is.

No intrest in Sport Sedans ?
Foxer replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess I'm the one that started this .. and I appreciate the definition, Scott. I didn't mean to offend or start a row here .. was just being a little sarcastic. I still don't see any of these as Sports Sedans .. only the marketers would. I'm surprised anyone would actually call these ill handling cars "sports". So .. I'm 68 years old. I did grow up with these and was an extreme car nut since I could speak. I could name every car on the road from a very young age. I stated building model cars in 1958 when AMT started with one piece bodies and custom parts. I think I lost my endearment of American cars when I got my drivers license and drove my fathers '65 Ford Galaxy .. here a teen with license and I refused to ever drive that ill handling behemoth ever! It was dangerous if you even had to take a corner .. at ANY speed. I AM happy to report that there are now true Sports Sedans being produced by American companies! Please cal them what they are .. 4-door Sedans, NOT Sports Sedans .. as the marketers want you to do. Look up BMW for a true 60's Sports Sedan .. or any number of other European makes. All in good nature, guys .. -
After fabbing the plenum I wondered if the engine sat up too high so I test fitted the engine. It fits!! So much room up front I'm thinking twin turbo now! Got 'em, might as well use 'em. I'm loving the look of that engine!

Build of my 1:1 2013 Mustang - Updated 4/11
Foxer replied to SterlingStang13's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Building your 1:1 car is as fun as it gets as far as I'm concerned. And that Mustang is a great looker. I've built a number of my similar cars (VW and Porsche 944's) and it's amazing how much the various models vary in detail. Yours is looking good and good luck with the remaining detail. -
filling the sinker marks correctly
Foxer replied to minkos's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That looks like a pretty flat surface, so a sanding block should work. If there's a slight curve to the surface you have to "roll" the block as you go to maintain the shape. Worst case you can grind the sink mark deeper which will be easier to fill. You want to use a 2-part putty for sure on a thick fill.
