  1. After the new shackles were drilled and a small pin attached with slow curing superglue across the joint they are sitting until tomorrow for final shaping. It seems that the 8 lug rims I was hoping for from Ryan Silva are having some delays as I haven't heard back from Ryan. Hopefully everything is ok with him and just real life stuff getting in the way. So, I figure I have to make some 8 lugs to at least stand in. I had some extra 6 lug wheels from the Revell '41 Chevy Pickup that fit the tiers well. They aren't as accurate as Ryan's but will do. I took the cast lugs off with a micro chisel and made a sander from an old paintbrush and punched sandpaper. I got some of Ma's Resin bold and nut castings with the tires to use. The rims in the photo are sitting on the 3/4" nuts that will be used. Now if I only can get the 8 holes for the lug nuts drilled evenly in the rim. I made an accurate bolt circle with hole locations in 3D Studio and hopefully when printed and glued to the rim will give me an accurate template. At least I only need two as the front tires will be getting some small hubcaps that will be made.
  2. This is fun seeing one of your builds coming together. I'm dropping exclamation points all over the floor here after every photo!
  3. That green color is the one I seem to remember on all those old Fords ... or maybe it's just the one that resided by me. Your details where parts are missing is exquisite ... the tranny, steering wheel and tail light especially. Very nice weathering!
  4. A great lead in story here AND some well done photos to boot! I assume this is a workbench build as I'm itching to see it progress!
  5. He's a member here .. go look in member's list for his name..
  6. I agree ... when the AMT kits came out in 1958 all I wanted to do was chop, channel and section ... with dual headlights and Packard taillights of course!
  7. Oh no .. MassCar is in March? I was hoping I'd have this done by then, but I don't know. At least it might be close enough to put on the primer table. It's all just coming down to rims now. I might have to make some 8 lug ones as I think Ryan Silva must have something in his way to finishing his resin ones since I haven't heard from him. Anyway, I'm really hoping to make MassCar this year and hopefully meet all the New Englanders here.
  8. Just a small photo group as I wait for glue to dry. The suspension is all jacked up and the spring welds are drying. The front spindles had to be extended so I drilled through the extension into the old spindle. The pin will go through the splice and act as the top pin for the spindle. I've been forming the rear speakers that are mounted in the rear posts and glued them in this morning.
  9. Sounds like not enough. Since it's a chemical mix I'm not sure how you can fix it.
  10. As I've been looking at this I think the idea of building it up from flat stock looks like the answer. Now to see how many different large circle punches I have.
  11. Did I mention how much I enjoyed (or am enjoying) this issue? I may get in a building rut doing a lot of the same 1/25 plastic cars, but I really enjoy the variety in this magazine. I can't wait to see the diecasts that Wayne Moyer comes up with and read his wonderful comments. I was happy to finally see photos of the Kurtis Midget Offy engine! The Scratchbuilding School articles have been interesting and worthy since they've started. Jairus' Rat Rod article made me laugh ... he's about as anchored in his thinking as all those traditional Hot Rod guys .. but I totaly enjoyed the article! Tim Boyd's Museum tour was welcome and fascinating in it's photo coverage. Despite my comment on Brad Leisure's (or Harry's) channel, I have to say he went the extra mile with his depiction of the sectioning required! ok .. that's as far as I've gotten so far ...
  12. This is for the GMC Van I'm building. I have looked around and haven't seen anything good to start with making a couple of these. I can make decals for the red GMC and the black sections so just the shape would need to be made. I wouldn't try to get the black "spokes" actually carved out, just the black decals to give the impression. That would even be true to the original since the hubcap is a cheap imitation of a mag wheel. What I'm looking for is if anyone happens to know of some kit hubcap that could be a good start to making these?
  13. By far, that's the nicest thing you could have possibly said to me!!
  14. This is gorgeous!! That black paint shines like a surfside stone! The surfboards ... and all those accessories are fantastic! My bet is these are what earned the good wife rating.
  15. Mine arrived fast.. got it yesterday. But, I think we need to inform Brad Leisure what "channeling" and "sectioning" means. He had great sketches showing the locations to section his pickup ... but this task was referred to as channeling in the text. The sketches were so clear that it really doesn't matter, but these are about the most basic customizing terms. My bet is that Harry edited his text, ie. Pocher builders don't section!
  16. Today went well as I used some Micro Liquitape to do a temporary mock up of the suspension and got a handle on how much this really needs to be jacked up. It's .1" in the rear and .2" front. I just added .1" shims under the ends of the rear springs and will add some sides to look like shackle extensions. The front is not extremely realistic but will look ok. I added some round .2" shims under the A arm mounting and added brass pins where the A arm assembly had chassis location pins. I'll have to extend the front spindles and all the shocks to fit. All in all it wasn't a bad job.
  17. test all the above on some sprue from some chrome trees.
  18. I really like that body the way you shortened it! It looks like it was made that way .. errr,, it WAS I guess .. just stretched.
  19. I don't even know what to say .. but I sure am smiling!
  20. A few photos of the weathering in progress ... still more to do. I want to do most of the suspension after it's mounted but I'm still trying to figure how much I have to jack it up. It's difficult without the rims but I think I can do some mock up now that I have the tires. Most of the suspension pieces in the photos just have a few layers of RustAll over some gloss black. The left door has it's two hinge pins on it as they are all cut and complete. a close up of the elusive hinge all pinned and ready to be mounted ... The header posed for a closeup also ... and I see a few spots needing touch up. Photos are relentless in showing what's been missed! The chassis has been been getting smashed, bashed and peened and is getting there ... many coats of Rust All Thanks for looking..
  21. The engine parts I just save ... never know when I'll need some parts scattered around. It does make me wonder when seeing these why they would do this when it will be buried. I'm building a van using the A-Team one, but all the old AMT Chevy vans are the same ... there lots of engine bay detail in there and it's all under the interior engine cover, not to mention the molded closed hood. This really surprised as it a quite nice engine for it's old age. I'm just leaving off the top engine details that won't be seen from underneath. No sense wasting them!
  22. Naw, Ohio is just a regular Black Hole. (sorry, I went to school in Indiana just over the line in Angola ... and Ohio was the LONGEST drive coming back from semester break)
  23. cool ... filed away for when needed.
  24. Oh great ... now I have to clean the "reading room" for space ... bye bye Road and Track!
  25. There was just a notice here on the calendar. This Saturday the 19th. I'm going to try and make it as I never knew of this one before. I hear, it may even be WARM!
