  1. The 8 lug hubs have been taunting my eyes and also I've been trying different things to make the base hubcaps. Currently it's a thumbtack and a small punched disk of plastic that I spun in my Dremel to shape the edges .. now drying. Sorry no photos yet on those. I applied some Kosutte Gin San to the mirrors and antenna that had been sprayed with Metalizer Aluminum Plate. I Polished the aluminum before applying but I think it was still somewhat rough. I had sanded and buffed the mirrors quite a bit. Anyway, they aren't as shiny as I had hoped but these are not brand new chromed pieces so it will work. I think that was the cellar tungsten light bulb adding that yellowish color.
  2. That's a nice one .. textures look really good and lots of detail. Let's see .. 1/9 ...must be almost the length of a 1/25 car ... wow ... it would fit on a shelf!
  3. The paste up you showed made me thing of the wrap as the rays are positioned. The front looked like a fat ray would surround the grill top and bottom .. cool. The back wrapped as shown would also be very distinctive ... followers wondering what the heck is that with those red bands ... and pulling up along side at a light.. Oh WoW! I am assuming there would be a sun on both sides. If not.. wow.. imagine the one side continuing as on your car. You CAN'T lose no matter what!
  4. I myself find the whole idea of sticking cars in some predefined slot silly. I think it all derives from people at these "contests" needing more definition classes so all have a better chance for a trophy. A hot rod is a hot rod is a hot rod. There was NO definition of a "traditional" hot rod back in the '50's like there is now. I'd venture many REAL hot rods built in the '50's wouldn't meet the present day definition. Those were all built on a shoestring budget using whatever they could find. hmmmm .. what is that "rat rod" definition again?. Personally, I don't like defining Rat Rods either. To me, they're ALL Hot Rods!
  5. Sure does look like it's been waiting patiently
  6. Welcome to the forum and nice, clean looking build. Building just for fun is what it's all about! And nice to see Reading ... just south a bit.
  7. Magnificent! Those are some clean solder joints ... me and solder never got along. Spectacular work on that frame I must say!
  8. That is looking good, but chrome is a big part of that car. BMF is not that bad and the results will make you glad you did it. I'd suggest starting on the side trim as that looks well defined and straight. My main tools for this are Q-tip, round toothpick and NEW blade. As long as there's a good edge for the blade to follow it goes smooth.
  9. Ut oh ... I think I'm sensing a signature. But the Rising Sun DOES look good on a van, especially with it wrapped around front and back! The ride height does look good in my eyes, although I had thought this type of van was lower .. probably my imagination.
  10. This keeps looking better. The one big problems with vans is the engine is very difficult to see, even with the hood open. I'm leaving half the top detail off on my GMC van since I didn't feel like prolonging (is that possible with me?) the build by opening the hood. Are you doing anything to see the engine better? I especially like that diamond plate floor and those boxes of metal parts are sparkling!
  11. I would have got it just for the grill teeth to put on my Merc ... if they were separate.
  12. great idea, great execution.
  13. I DID understand you correctly then. What did throw me was seeing top and bottom of the diff in your photos. .. and I agree on half-cast!
  14. I keep liking that GMC logo more and more the more I look at it. It's all coming together nicely.
  15. oh yes! I love surgery and transplanted limbs!
  16. nice, nice, nice! and I like those rims on it.
  17. This is a great looking car, but I'm NOT guessing the year this was taken! (I think there's cigarette ads on that prototype in the back)
  18. Thanks for the review on this kit. I always had a soft spot for these Healeys and it's nice to see what's in it. One question ... I'm not sure I'm following you on your comment about the rear axle being "half cast". I can't remember any similar axle that wasn't cast this way. This doesn't look like it uses a metal axle that would need to pass through, but a casting of the differential solid would surely have dimples from the thickness. I'm just feeling I'm misunderstanding what you meant.
  19. Very unique and I like the design!
  20. I made it to the Bennington, VT show this year, but my camera wasn't all there. The batteries died early. I was especially upset I didn't get photos of the models being put down by the young lady in the photos ... they were worthy of some good shots and it was good to see her interest. There were about 60 models and a good number of venders that filled the gym. Photos here
  21. I was just at Scale Dreams and had noticed a PS2 and controller in resin. They could have more there ...
  22. That's sure some shiny paint!
  23. Nicely done!
  24. whew! From the title I thought you did a rat rod ... but I like this! .. especially the few odds and ends.
