That's a bummer of a story, but doing a model of it should help ... and you got out of the first Integra ok. I don't remember seeing any kits of this car .. some photos would be cool, even of the starting box and body. edit: I should have looked further down the new posts list as david has an Integra going also!

I'm usually a scale tyrant, but I like this build despite the scale. Besides, I can zoom in If I want to see it a 1/25. Seriously, very nice work going on here .. that engine looks great along with all your other mods.

I use embossing powder, George, but it's hard to beat real fuzzy material in some cases. This is just an alternate to powder and "fuzzy fur". Thickness is rarely an issue on the floor, even in a convertible. It can't be seen unless you stick your gauge in and measure seat thickness off the floor. If you worry about scale, I think embossing powder is way off as far as 1/25 scale, but it DOES look right most of the time and that IS what matters. I went to felt for the van I'm building that was my daughter's. She had covered the dash with a piece of red carpet (!) that she had used on the floor. Using embossing powder or fuzzy fur on the dash just wouldn't have looked right, ESPECIALLY in thickness. The felt I used is about .05", or 1.25" in 1/25 and would seem way too thick, but it comes across just right. The same goes for the edges you see at the rear doors. I think felt is what you need when thickness DOES matter. This is just another tool in our arsenal. STOP giving me ideas!!!!! ;)

Wow Curt ... that windscreen alone will make this build! Looks like parts are on the line waiting for the shift to start ..

Using Acrylic Fingernail filler for bodywork
Foxer replied to Custom Mike's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Oh wow ... pour in separately? So is the powder just a filler? Looks like I have to go back and try it this way. Thanks for the input Dan. -
I like the black rockers .. made the whole car slim down nicely.

I love felt for carpets. It has just the right texture and is available in various colors. This is a red felt carpet going into the van I'm building. It's just laying in there for this shot.

What irks me more than anything about this "no engine" kit is they have the nerve to put "V8" in the kit title. At least it will be interesting to watch your build.

That's smooth and clean all around ... and Mikey likes it.

85 GMC Van 8/9/17 Fixed for Fotki

Thanks Erik and Terry. I think this is entering the realm of EPIC, but I'm not sure I would have gotten where I am without all the encouragement and help from everyone here ... and that includes all those that just ran up the views. It's nice to know people are looking no matter how small the update. -
I love that roof slope!

You did that justice! Next Mr. Watson will be wanting to borrow the keys.

85 GMC Van 8/9/17 Fixed for Fotki

That is what makes most sense and I would, but the windows are very thin acetate from a file folder cover and they have no strength. The reason for using these is the purple color. I have some thin brass sheet that I'm going to use rather than wire. Should be almost invisible. -

WoW, Nick .. the grill GMC looks fantastic! -
I really like what I can see of the split rear window ... seems much needed now that it's in front of us! The console is curvaceous!

Thanks, Tony. And looking at that last image I realized I didn't add the window divider, This is actually sliding window but I only planned to add a single post in the middle. So, it's in and glue drying today. I scrapped some BMF away and used Ambroid on the .04" square post. It is tight and I'm getting worried now to it's longevity in there. I see it going "BOING!" and sailing across the room some day. I'm going to fashion a wire backup inside and flatten the ends to sit as flush as possible to the inside body. Coat with epoxy and cover with BMF and paint. That should be more durable and easy to do. -
.17" is closer to 3/16" (.1875). A 1/8" rod would only be 2.25" in 1/18 scale.

Using Acrylic Fingernail filler for bodywork
Foxer replied to Custom Mike's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I came to the conclusion that for very small parts the powder gave it too much texture. I expected the powder to dissolve in the liquid but it acted more like a fine sand. I can see this is no problem when using as a filler that you would be sanding anyway. -
I've always loved this car. They had gobs of nerve showing it way back then. The kit looks fantastic especially all the detail. Definably will be watching this.

My biggest comment is a big smile ! That looks fantastic. I want to see that grill all surrounded! Speaking of done in a week or so, I Don't suppose MassCar is in it's future? Looks like NLL East might be closer to you.

My fingers can't BMF like I used to but it's coming along. I set up up here at the computer and do a little, surf a little and it's working. This is just a flash shot to see how it looks as photos seem to always amplify the bad spots. The body has a Testor's Wet Look clear which it really needed to make the metallic blue look right. Now I can semi-gloss it to dull the shine down. I might do some door decals as a BMF break. All the interior panels do have their chrome trim done. The hole in the door is not damage ..it's to receive the side mirror pin. -

The weathering on this is spectacular! It has gone through a life and shows it. This is what weathering is about ... wonderful job!
