  1. The only nice thing about them was you could actually take the tire off the rim and put it back on yourself.

OMG! ... but even the disaster photos look real! Can't believe I never commented on this because I've been in thousands of old mills in my career as a Structural Engineer and this looks as realistic as they do themselves! Comments have rightfully noted the brickwork, piping, joists and weathering as spot on and they are right .. 100%! I was impressed with the wood nailers on the steel beams! And GTMust's floor comments are pretty much correct. The diagonal structural floor (bottom) was sometimes laid diagonally for stiffness and bracing of the beams. The top was always done parallel to the walls to make replacement easier and was never counted as part of the floor strength .. just a finish. Also, the flooring never contributed to the stiffness of the building as it was not attached to the walls. Part of the seismic upgrades for all these buildings is bolting the floors to the walls. This is more for bracing of the walls than anything to do with the floor.
  3. The brake disks look exceptionally good on this. They have the right sheen and even some hint of radial score lines.
  4. Welcome to the forum AND model car building. Detail painting you next masterpiece should be your next task along with spray painting the body. Practice spray painting another object ... some use plastic spoons, some a spare body, but anything will do. There are many tips here for starting out .., look through the Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials section for tons of info.
  5. I really like the look.
  6. I've seen this but just use sanding sticks in my hands. But I did look and found this post on another site on making the homemade version ...
  7. I hope this isn't a typo ... happy day George.
  8. Be sure not to pull the tape straight up. Bend over itself and pull ... like removing masking.
  9. Nicely done detail painting. Welcome back to plastic!
  10. All the wits have played this out, so happy bday and thanks for giving us homeless somewhere to go.
  11. I liked the carrier full of Ramblers, Though, it seems Iowans did get some Caddys.
  12. I like the ski pole ends in the grill.
  13. I'm thinking of getting back to the build of my '51 Plymouth straight 6 engine and one thing that put a pause on it was modeling the spark plug connectors. These are those old metal connectors .. made from sheet metal with a 90 degree bend and clamped around the wire with a press fit to the plug. They were all bare metal and were about the wire insulation diameter. I found one photo below. Some thoughts I had were slitting the plug wire insulation so it would bend to 90 degrees, gluing and painting silver. I think this might be a tough glue job without making some jig. I do have some rubber spark plug boots that I could just paint silver but these are large compared to the plug wire. Last possibility I will just use there as is. I do have some cast spark plugs I'd like to use and these would cover more of the plug that I want to. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
  14. I've bought models and I can't get up.
  15. You make me want to steal all your ideas for the three '51's down in my shop!
  16. Beautiful job! On that spot above the front fender just put a short piece the length of the gouge over top. BMF is so thin it barely shows unless you;re looking for it. This also works for complicated areas where a 1:1 car would have separate pieces of trim. An overlap simulates the 1:1 joint
  17. That frame seems to fit nicely in the body.
  18. THAT'S what I'm talking about! Modeling you first car is a great idea and I've been collecting parts to do my '51 Plymouth. It's is looking like the engine may be just displayed on the side thou. It's cool you had the mods to do making your Stude ... came out great!
  19. Looks good ... I do love sedans full fenders. Can I ask if you Uncle is still around to appreciate what you did?
  20. The advantage of working down in the basement man cave!
  21. Those back door hinges should work well. I'm not sure newer vans had those pin hinges that gave me so much trouble on my old GMC van build. These will give a smooth look on the outside. I like that bumper treatment.. creative.
  22. Grats, Kevin!
  23. Beautiful! Everything on that came together well.
  24. That is very weird. I've even lost hard disks and computers but never affected logging into an online site.
