Wow, that color makes that neat body style pop! Cragar SS wheels always look good, too. Mike has some of the cleanest, best detailed builds around.

Some progress on "Topper", my 32 Ford project
Randy Kern replied to Steve H.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Steve, I never thought of using pieces from that dept.! We have a whole store here in our little town called 'Six Feet Under' that has all the fantasy games and figures. I guess I'll have to check it out. I did show a few pics of my '40 Ford pickup back when the truck thread was in under glass, but here's a few again, not real good, I've since improved my lighting in my photo booth. -
Steve, I made that stand about 15 years ago! I can't take full credit, as I know I saw the idea in a model car mag somewhere, but since I made that one I've seen them at shows for around $10.00! My son said I should have gotten a patent on it. The neat thing with this stand, besides the simplicity and ease of adjustment, is you can easily get paint under the body sides and up into the inside of the body easier.

Some progress on "Topper", my 32 Ford project
Randy Kern replied to Steve H.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking good, Steve. That is a cool skull shift knob! Who makes it? The only one I have found so far is this one that I think is from R&MCM, which I put in my '40 Ford pickup. -
Cruz, I love Bugs, and that one is perfect! Nice, clean build as always. I would maybe trade my Bugeye Sprite for a real one like that!

Cruz, your model cars always make me smile and say WOW! Another fine build! I say,"bring them out of retirement, and show 'em at the club meetings once in a while"! Even the older builds are worth seeing now and then. I have this kit to build, and I love the El Camino, but I think I'm going to try a resin wagon body for it, like the one we had when I was a kid. Hope to see you Saturday.

32 Ford... Do you think this is too subtle? Update 3/15/07
Randy Kern replied to Steve H.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
Steve, I'm the newly elected VP of the model club Peterson is a member of, so I'll see what I can do to get him cracking on a hot rod build! Your '32 looks way cool just as it is, and thank you for telling it like it is, I love it! -
I use a very simple stand for bodies that you can make from materials you might already have. The wood block is 1" thick, 4" wide and 8" long. I used bigger diameter wire clothes hangers for the holders, about 8" long with 60 degree bends on the ends that hold the body. I drilled a series of holes in the wood that the hanger wire will fit tightly, and to adjust for different length bodies. I also drilled some large holes in the block to hold it better while painting. With just some slight tension on the inside of the body, the wires have held the bodies flawlessly, and are easily adjustable. Here is a shot of one with my son's Civic body on. For smaller flat parts such as hoods, I use 35mm film cans weighted with BBs, with a pencil or rod stuck down in, and an amount of masking tape wrapped at the top as a holder. For even smaller parts, I save long straight pieces of sprue, and actually glue the part on the end of the sprue, using liquid cement, at a place on the part that will be covered or hidden. The part will stay on for handling, but will come off easily when done painting. Here is an engine brace glued on to the sprue where it will be attached to the body. Having a 35mm camera helped me acquire the film cans. If I have a quantity of parts the same color, I use a small box or container and punch holes to hold the parts. Very effective, it works for me!

Luis, I also am a big fan of the Scale Motorsports upholstery decals. They really make an interior pop. The one you show, and also the zebra pattern are two of my favorites. Excellent work!

Words cannot describe, and even good photos don't do Jeff's models justice. You have to see them in person to believe them! Just today at our club meeting I took a photo of a skull hood ornament on one of his cars (about the size of a scale shift knob) that he scratch built! By the way Jeff, I'll pm you with this and another front shot of this car.

A nice & tasty, very clean little pocket rocket. Always an admirer of your builds! 8)

A Dodge & a Nissan? Magnissimo? R34 Magnum? Am I nuts?!
Randy Kern replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Cleaner and meaner! I love it, Bob! I also don't like the current nose, and putting a Bugeye Sprite clip on would make it too cheerful. You can almost see some sharp pointy teeth in the grille! -

1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landaulet - Trumpeter Kit
Randy Kern replied to PeterLepold's topic in Model Cars
Holy schnitzel! They are both incredible builds. I, and my humble shelf models bow to you! Are you sure you don't want to tackle another Trumpeter (Bonneville H.T. I got cheap)? Ah well, I'll just do it as a 'mild custom' street machine. -
Lookin' good, Cruz! I like that silvery blue color. Very clean. You should have brought it to MAMA, if you could have found a place to park it!
-
Paint is Duplicolor GM Camel with some pearl clear. Pretty much out of the box, as a '70s street machine. This kit has one of the best sets of narrow and wide Cragars around, with nice M/T Indys in the back.
-
Beautiful as always, Andy. You gotta love those original Cragar SS wheels. A favorite of mine too, and a nice diversion from the larger wheels of late. Yes, WHEELS, not rims.

Here's to you, Dick Landy. R.I.P. A "phantom" version of the Shirley Shahan car.

2005 Corvette Buildup Teaser pic-----1/28/07
Randy Kern replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
She's looking spectacular in that color, Bill! Even your non-obsessive projects are over the top. Hope you finish it by next Saturday. I'll bring my humble version of that kit, also. -
That should look pretty cool. That's a different color choice from most you see! Being an A-H Bugeye owner I also love the Minis. I've got three of those kits to do, including the race version and Monte Carlo rally. The kit has incredible detail for such a small car.

Buying that must have model !!!!!
Randy Kern replied to sparkyd31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me it had to be when Monogram came out with the '65 Chevy Impala, my first car! You never forget your first car, and I was lucky to be able to afford a nice 327/300, 4spd '65 for $300.00 in 1971 while still in high school. -
Clean and mean! Love the color. The '41 Willys is one of the coolest hot rods to model. Superior work, John! Perry's produces quality resin. I have their replacement Willys body ready for my old SWC car to build.
