  1. Thanks man, now that I see the photos from a distance I can tell that I need to touch up one spot near the top of driver's door where the flames are coming from the wrong direction. I'll need to shape that lick with some black paint and then add the final clear coat. Overall though, I'm happy with the intensity of this layer of brightness. I wanted it to start very strong at the front and taper off to the darker shades to really contrast with the black base.
  2. Yes, yes, yes, you've got it going on Dave!
  3. That is really cool!
  4. It's been a while since I did any model car work, but I have been meaning to add a brighter layer of fire to this '37 for about a year or so. I finally got back to it and here's where it stands at this point. I think I'll go with a red interior and drivetrain, and I'm planning on making a custom engine cover that will be black with the fire theme:
  5. Color scheme is great, and the detail work is mind-blowing! Rock on Bill!

That's an amazing project, congrats! I love that low, mean look, and the workmanship is top notch (as always)!
  7. Looks great! Love those lambos.
  8. Outstanding project, the amount of detail you've added is staggering! I always look forward to seeing your work.
  9. Thanks! The best explanation of how to paint true fire is Mike Lavallee's "Secrets of True Fire" DVD. It's available on the Killer Paint website and new and used copies are usually for sale on eBay. There are writeups on some of the airbrush forums, too. The key to doing it in a small scale is to get the finest tip available for your airbrush. Based on my experience and seeing other people's progress, it takes a couple of weeks of practice to get the feel for it. -JV
  10. Here's another Willy's coupe I just finished, so it's time to put it "under glass": -JV
  11. Thanks, the sleeves are used to turn 19" rims into 23", available from Pegasus Hobbies and PSF Hobbies online.
  12. Here's a Willys that I've been working on for a while, so I thought I share some progress pics. It's painted bright orange, and the flames are a combination of chrome yellow, clear orange, white, and clear yellow. The wheels are from Aoshima and the centers are painted in light gunmetal with dullcote, with Pegasus sleeves on the rears. Thanks for checking out the progress! Later, JV
  13. Great job on that interior! The whole truck has a cool style. Well done!
  14. Beautiful, love the style! The color/stripes look perfect.
  15. Looks great! I like the combination of the CF decals with that paint color...stylish yet reserved.
  16. Excellent paint scheme, the flames look super!
  17. Great concept and execution! Congrats on completing a super project.
  18. Great job! That might have started out as the one I made as a kid based on the amount of glue that was used...
  19. Cool resto job, looks great!
  20. This truck looks fantastic! There's a ton of work involved to make it look "just right", and you nailed it. Definitely a new favorite of mine.

Time to slide this one under glass here at the MCM forum. It was built mostly box stock, except the suspension was lowered another 2 inches in back and 4 inches in front, I added plug wires and a brake line from the master cylinder, and shaved the door handles and emblems. Thanks for checking out the completed photos.
  22. Wow, that's some amazing work on both of these! They absolutely could pass for 1:1. That panel line darkening technique you've developed is very realistic.
  23. Does the chassis in your kit look like the one in my photo?
  24. I just finished rebuilding this Willys that was originally done a few years ago. It was lowered another 4-5 scale inches, the interior was repainted, and the carbs are from the '32 3-Window kit. The taillights were replaced with PE disks painted mica red. The paint is Roadstar orange over gold enamel. I like this one better now that it's ridng in the weeds: Later, JV
  25. I finally got a paint job on this one (the paint gremlins were at it again). This is Fathom Green, a color in the Testor's hobby lacquer line. Later, JV
