Take a ride on a V12. Literally.

It would be cool, but I'd still like to see somebody do the Dodge Tomahawk first. -
Deora COE

Loving that tandem rear axle setup, and the Hoosier whitewalls. It's suprising how well that A-Brothers design works as a COE cab. -
Rommel's shop truck

Nah, mine would be a bit crustier. Love the idea of a half-track shop truck! -
Yeah- that's the one downfall of using a Nova body for such a project- it's just a box from most angles. Something a bit swoopier like an F-85 would make more of a visual impact as-is, but I didn't want to tear into one of those kits for a project like this. It's still recognizable from the back (like the Buick in the first photo). But the other reason I wanted to go with a Nova body was because, once its finished, what kind of car body I started with wouldn't be as obvious, being that the Nova is a bit nondescript for its era.

Where does your nostalgia lie?
Chuck Most replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A few years. 1990, to be exact. -
A while back, a buddy and I were at the hobby shop. I'd just picked up a '66 Nova pro street kit to pirate the chassis for another project, and he commented how everything that could be done to a Nova, had been done to a Nova. I pretty much responded with an "I hear ya, buddy", and went home. But after a while, I got to thinking. I had a Nova body I'd not be using, and I wondered... COULD something different be done with it. Then I remembered this- This is a '61 or '62 Buick Special, which has been cut down into a fenderless hot rod. Now, I have no idea of this car is real or not (I've only ever seen this image of it, no front, side, or interior shots, which makes me wonder if it's been Photoshopped), but I wondered if I could try something similar with the Nova body shell. Messed up the first body, but fortunately I had another '66, and armed with a bit of information on how NOT to do it, I spent a few minutes with a saw and files and had this. I didn't really take any measurements, I just cut away what looked right. The interior opening is about the size of a Model A roadster, so I've got room to play around there. The wheel/tire is where the rear axle will be. I'm also planning to incorporate an open cowl vent into the design, it will sit in front of where the wipers used to be. The white strip of styrene is there to replace the original character line stamped into the Nova's flanks, which was lost during the initial bodywork. The plan is to give it a low-buck demeanor, but with a glossy paint job and a full interior.

Similar era Ford kits? How many Teens era Ford kits are there? I can think of maybe five, in a number of scales. As far as what's exciting about it? Well, it's the first Chevrolet, the kit was only produced for one year, and will never, ever be reissued because the tooling was destroyed, and I really don't see Round 2 or anybody making any new molds for it. If anything, any Chevrolet that isn't a Nova, Camaro, or '57 is worth having in kit form.

If you're talking cars, I'm nostalgic for a period I never lived- mostly the late '50's and early '60's. If you mean the part of my life I'm nostalgic about, all I have to say is: Stop! HAMMERTIME. -
Very cool. One time when chassis detail is absolutely mandatory!

Nicely done! Refreshing to see one of these done in a street-rod style.
-
You'll need to do a bit more cleanup than, say, a Modelhaus piece, but they're very good quality, especially for the price.

Yeee-ah! I'm in.

If anybody could pull off a glossy rat rod, it would be Jim.

I've seen the hoods opened on these for NASCAR conversions, but never a stock version. Should be feasible if you can find a suitable chassis, though. Very nice- toss on some Rally wheels and a few dings and dents, and it would look like the '76 version my uncle used to drive back in the late '80's.

Dave Grohl is a dead ringer for Dave Grohl... -
Judging from the grille, it is a 1959 or 1960 model. The 1958 would have had a cross-hatch or 'egg crate' pattern grille, while the '59 and '60 Super Duty trucks had the horizontal bar motif the truck in the picture has. The '60 pickups, panels, and non-SD trucks had a revised grille, but the heavy F and T series trucks used a carryover '59 grille. Then again, the truck's finish indicates it may have been repainted a time or two, and it could be a '58 model fitted with a later grille. The hood emblems were similar for all three years.

Revell '50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe 2'n1
Chuck Most replied to styromaniac's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
From what I have heard, Revell was actually working on this kit before the Hobbico takeover, and shelved it for a few years. It was not until they caught wind of Moebius' plans to produce the Hudson and Chrysler that they took it out of mothballs. -
