  1. I really wonder why Revell slaps their name on the old Monogram stuff, especially when they have the newer-tool, and much better, 1:25 Tri-Five kits out under the Revell name as well. Wait... those started out as Monogram kits, too. Really wish they'd make up their minds. I have to wonder how many inattentive modelers bought one of these expecting the mid '90's era kit.
  2. So... if you are looking to build a custom rig (something like that wild truck David Morton built a few years back), something you are going to totally rework anyway, and you don't want to butcher a nice kit, this would be what you'd want to start with. Is that what you're saying?
  3. Those are the correct images for the grille for each year. The information is off on the interiors. The dash on the left is the standard cab, the one on the right is the Custom Cab. My dad and grandfather both own 1966 models- my grandfather's is a base model and has the dash as seen in the left photo, while my father's Custom Cab has the dash seen in the right photo. 1965 models were the same way, but I can't vouch for the '64 and older trucks.
  4. Man, if I didn't live all the way across the country- I'd have gladly taken it off her hands. http://www.motorcityresincasters.com/
  5. Ah... one of my favorite bodies from Mr. Andrew O. Martin. Me likey.
  6. Well... there is one modeler on this site whose work I admire- spkgibson, aka Steve Ketterer. He and I are both customers of Dean's Hobby Stop in Flushing, Michigan, and he and I were both there at the same time, although I did not realise it until I posted my purchase from that day in the "What did you get today" thread and he responded saying he saw me buy it. So while I technically haven't met him, I have been in the same building with him at least once. Yeah, that's about all I've got.
  7. Yep. That's what I'll be doing all day (or at least all evening) Saturday.
  8. This is what I WILL be working on all day Saturday in all likelyhood... a flathead Olds Straight 8.
  9. Fred Cady quit making decals six or seven years back, but he still makes a few sets upon request when he feels like it. So, never say never, I guess. I do hope someone will pick up the product, even if it is in a limited form. I LOVE the 'Mom and Pop' line of decals from Slixx.
  10. Ah... right! The color is Krylon Hunter Green, straight out of the rattle can. Slick, exotic stuff, that Krylon.
  11. Oh- one other thing- the 'Twin H Power' lettering on the decklid looks like it might get lost under a few coats of primer and paint, but so far I've had pretty good luck not gunking it up. I like to apply foil to it first, before primer and paint (and clear if applicable) then gently polish the area to expose the foiled lettering.
  12. You might be onto something there, actually. The last hobby shop in my area that carried Slixx decals was selling them for what amounted to a 60% discount off list price for many years- just before he closed up shop (it was kind of an 'evenings and weekends' operation for the owner, not his main income source) he was giving them away with a model kit purchase, and from what I hear, toward the end he was just plain giving them away. He had quite a few 'outdated' sets. Last time I was in there I bought a Revell Dodge Intrepid stock car kit, and he let me have the Slixx sheet for the #22 Cat Diesel car for free with the kit. His theory was this- since many of the current sheets were for NASCAR racers, and those cars change schemes and livery so often, it made the existing sheets obsolete fairly quickly, and the product just hung around on his shelves because nobody wanted to model a car with an obsolete graphics scheme. He said he'd quit ordering new sheets several years before- all he had in stock the whole time I shopped there were leftover stock from previous years.
  13. My Dremels (one multispeed and one single speed) get pressed into service as makeshift lathes every so often as well, though I do have to say I've never tried whittling a scale light bulb with one. Since that particular project has been done already, maybe I'll try making a CFL in 1:25.
  14. I don't even like Novas and I dig this one. Something about Torq Thrusts and the Yenko livery just make them work for me.
  15. All the tools I have ever needed (besides the organic ones Dave pointed out earlier) are the basics- Xacto blades and handle, a cutting mat, metal rulers, a good set of shears, and of course raw materials- styrene, aluminum, adhesives, etc. Never owned a lathe, but I've found my trusty old Black and Decker cordless drill can be improvised into one when the need arises.
  16. I know the leftover chassis from the Joker Goon Car/DOH Cop Car Dodge Monaco will work under the '70 body and interior. I know this because I switcheroo'd the chassis from the Pro Street variant of the Bee kit under the Monaco bod. The Super Bee will be built as a curbside resto project.
  17. Looks like that chassis could be adjusted to work under just about any 1:25 or 1:24 body.

  19. Lincoln Flathead V-12 got my attention, and the model delivered. It's giving my ideas for an early-style hot rod.
  20. No, the Iron Horse was based on a stock Mustang. The kit in your post was originally produced by IMC and depicts the 1963 concept car.
  21. Very nice metal work! This is the first time I've seen anyone do a stock-style bumper in metal.
  22. I guess that's not so weird.. the Monogram F-250 always had five bolt wheels, and the most recent versions of the AMT '79 F-350 had no lug nuts on the wheels at all.
  23. I think there should be two segments... FINISHED and IN PROGRESS.
  24. You could sidestep any wheelbase/ lug nut issues by doing something like this... Wait, THIS one has SIX lugs...
  25. Sheesh! Wonder if it has to do with licencing fees. Isn't that why they quit doing NASCAR sheets?
