Scratchbuilt Struts for Drag cars
Chuck Most replied to Dragline's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
About painting the wire- I've tried doing that, and it doesn't seem to add much to the thickness (depending on what gauge wire you are using, anyway), but it can gum up some of the coils. I will certainly be using color coated wire for such applications in the future! -
Sheesh.... what ever happened to table tipping and Ouija boards?
-
The mirrors (like all AMT big truck mirrors) are a bit clunky anyway- I rather like how yours looks without them! Very nice replica of a clean, well-maintained C-cab.
-
That is kind of sick and twisted (don't let that fact stop you, though!!!! ), but since they're made by a company called Ulrich, I'm thinking of making a 'replica' of Metallica's drummer, Lars Ulrich!

2010 Hemi Cuda Convertible
Chuck Most replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd agree, but then so is the new Challenger, so no harm, no foul! I hope my phantom 2011 Hemi 'Cuda model ends up looking halfway decent. -
LOVE seeing Chevy hot rods powered by non-Chevy mills! HUGE improvement over the stocker.

Stereotyping ???
Chuck Most replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah- I've fallen under the 'long hair' stereotype with the cops, too. Funny, most cops have really cheesy moustaches (is that part of the uniform), and nobody sees those and assumes they're ex-Village People. -
1950 Chevy 3100/1955 Cameo

I can sort the two kits in question out well enough- but yeah, I've had the same problems myself! -
20Th Century Cars into Kits
Chuck Most replied to davyou5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll second that, along with Craig's GOOD '70 'Cuda! Sign me up for a GOOD '56 Effie, too. I'd also love to see a WWII era Dodge Power wagon- military or civilian 2 in 1, please. -
How to Remove "Ghost Trim"
Chuck Most replied to diymirage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've never tried Future, but I can vouch for Duplicolor primer sealer, and BIN sealer. Both do a great job preventing ghosting on 2-part putty. -
Stereotyping ???
Chuck Most replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I probably should keep quiet, since I drive a '94 F-250 (regular cab and TWO TONE no less), but here goes... I'd say you're a rather bushy-bearded dude, who, when he isn't wearing overalls, is wearing a tattered flannel shirt and/or a cowboy hat. In your pocket is always a pack of Marlboros or Skoal, and you say 'Ye-Haw' a lot. No, wait, that's me. Man, this sterotype stuff is hard! -
Well it's been awhile!
Chuck Most replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad to have ya back, Bill! (BTW- I'm Chuck Most. You might not recognize me- I've changed my screen name once and my avatar about seventeen times since we last spoke!) -
Yes, it is time for a Round 2 full glue kit! I've had good luck using lacquer paints on vinyl seats and interiors (GS's '56 Beetle, for instance), and haven't had any trouble. Would this work on AMT's vinyl seats, as well?

21st century cars into kits..
Chuck Most replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey... you could build the Prius they raced at Bonneville a few years back! One area where an 'allegedly' sticky throttle is a GOOD thing! -
Nicely built! A great subject you don't see often enough. I've always wanted to build this one- I just like how the boxy '80-'82 T-Bird looks in race plummmage. I'm even thinking of converting one back to stock, just to mess with people's heads.

Pretty nice for a parts kit, I'd say! Didn't know there was a 1:25 first-gen Z-car. I did fairly well- the following AMT kits- '65 El Camino (WITH the camper!), '77 Ford Courier, '94 GMC Sonoma, '95 Chevy Blazer, '08 Dodge Challenger (yep- finally decided to get one), and an MPC '78 Dodge Monaco. After the last haul, though, I think I'm pretty well set for winter!

Well, hey... we actually DID get the Passionate Poncho verson of the '62 Cat, and given Round 2's penchant for 'modified reissues' of late, I wouldn't be too surprised to see this Olds get the same treatment somewhere down the road. I built this kit when it first came out, and for a wee lad I was quite proud of the result- even though I had no idea the bumper was wrong until now!

Come to think of it- I'd really like a Jag XKR kit! -
Stereotyping ???
Chuck Most replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's not stereotyping.... it's profiling! I'd have to wonder if the driver had bad hair plugs, sweat pants, and flip flops, too! -
21st century cars into kits..
Chuck Most replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think we NEED a kit of the Bugatti Veyron- anything else (say, an '03-'04 Mercury Marauder, 2010 Taurus SHO, Cadillac XLR, or any of the other ten or twenty post-2000 cars I'd like to see) would just be 'bonus material'. Of course, the one I'd love to see isn't a car at all, it's the current Ford Super Duty pickup, but evidently truck model kits don't sell well, or so I'm told.
