Right! That's kind of why I had the 'mere' part in front of 'modeler'! Sure, a Wingrove isn't operable, but to look at one, you're kind of bummed (and a little shocked, even) to realize it isn't! By your 'non-fuctioning representation of something' defenition, any of several of my past 1:1 vehicles could be considered models!

Yeah- since the stock Hudson roof kind of looks chopped already, I thought I needed something a bit more obvious!

First things first, this is NOT a totally stock Pace Car, it has some chrome doodads stuck to it that don't come standard with the Pace Car, but mostly we're all good. This rare bird was on display at Carl Rummer Chevrolet-Buick in Ithaca, after they swiped it from the legendary Berger outfit in Grand Rapids- http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/11-reference-pictures/2010-camaro-pace-car/ And as a bonus, here's a 'plebian' SS model from the same dealer- http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/11-reference-pictures/2010-camaro-ss/

The Hudson might make a really killer sled... I might need to stock up!

I know what you mean. That's why I don't consider Gerald Wingrove a mere 'modeler'!

Didn't know Winston was no longer with us.

Fuel pump for '64 Olds 330
Chuck Most replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks to be on the passenger's side, just beneath the alternator in the photo. But, this is a '65 engine, and I think the Olds V8 underwent a few changes in '64. The location seems correct for the earlier engines, but I've had more experience with the late '70's to mid '80's versions of the Olds V8 (the doggy 260 and 307 versions) so I cannot profess to be an expert! -
All AMT and MPC kits had female wheel fittings- either to accept a metal axle or a plastic stub axle. That is, except for the AMT/Ertl Lexus LS 400, which was actually an Aoshima kit in an AMT box. All the Jo-Han kits I've ever built have had female wheel fittings, for use with a plastic axle.

Fuel pump for '64 Olds 330
Chuck Most replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You HAD to ask this mere weeks after I got rid of a 1:1 example of an Olds 330, didn't you? Maybe I ought to start photographing stuff before I unload it, just for these occasions! -
It may be a flawed kit, Bob- but I must say the end result looks pleasing enough. And yeah- the white is a nice change from the 'standard' red in which 99% of all Ferraris in every scale are finished. Strangely, I think red is the worst possible color for a Ferrari!

Awesome. Neat use of spares for the amp and subs!

I'll see your tim and raise you Evan Hermel as well!

I'll wholeheartedly support all the candidates for 'the best' I've seen so far (except for that Chuck Most clod- knowing him personally I can tell you he's a useless hack, and not much in the personality department either )- and add a couple I think have been forgotten so far... Joe Cavorley, Winston Mitchell, Bill Stillwagon, Bill Coulter, and anyone who can sucessfully pull off an old Jo-Han or Premeire kit and have the thing actually look GOOD when it's done. (Read- not me!)

In that case, I'll skip the coaster and chill on the log ride for a little bit!

I've had my eye on his Anglia chassis for a couple of years, but after hearing all the horror tales about how long it takes to get stuff out, I doubt I'll ever buy it. Really- what's so hard about putting something in a box, writing and adress on it, and sending it on its merry way... even if you DID have to cast iit first?

Kit prices for a well detailed kit??
Chuck Most replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Count me in on the 'gladly pay more for better quality' bandwagon, but there is a limit to what I'll spend on a kit! (As soon as I find it, I'll let you know!) My big gripe is this- Yeah, I can stomach paying $20-$25 (or more) on a new tool kit, but I should not have to pay that much for a sorry old reissue! $22 is a great price for a Revell '69 Nova. For an AMT '72 Nova? Not so much.Yes, the plastic costs money, but come on- I don't think I should have to pay full price on a kit whose tooling costs were paid off when Nixon was in the white house! -
Valuable Vintage kit? The kit was, what, only out of production for seven or eight years when you wrote that article... IF that, even! Yeah- now those Joker Goon Cars sell for a fair price! And what right does a kit collector have telling a builder what to do? That guy is REALLY going to hate my completed Jo-Han models!
-
Cool looking model, Dave! I've wanted to build this kit for as long as it's existed, but haven't so far.

The van looks like it would be the ultimate shag wagon!

Complete with a comprehensive article by Chuck Most, on how to fix the problems with a Palmer kit! Here is a sneak peak at the article in its entirety! FIXING PALMER KITS by Chuck Most Take the Palmer kit (as shown in Photo 1), and flush it down the nearest toilet (as shown in Photo 2). PHOTO 1: The kit you probably shouldn't have bought.
