Return of the 1/25 MPC '68 Coronet/Super Bee RT Convertible...
SteveG replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
George, sorry it's best that some specifics aren't spelled out here yet until will get a little farther down the road with this. The final layout out the two currently planned versions aren't finalized yet. I'll just say that we provided some additional parts from the '69 Dodge Coronet annuals for cloning purposes. Feel free to compare the originals to see how they differ in content. -Steve -
Terry is correct, considering the fact the design work for this kit was well underway long before the first 2021 Bronco's even hit the showroom. While we are grateful for the generous support we got from Ford with all the 3D data they provided to our design team. There were certain details that were off limits and could not be provided. With no vehicles to photograph and or measure at the time to help fill in the missing data on our own, the choice was to delay the project or go curbside. The hood was made separate for several reasons including likely design changes for future versions and the possibility that the aftermarket might provide additional parts. Time will tell what the future of the AMT Bronco kit will be but I can say there's lots of possibilities. -Steve

Return of the 1/25 MPC '68 Coronet/Super Bee RT Convertible...

Yes, the Cragar G/T wheels are in there with just about everything else that was in the original '68 annual version plus even a few tidbits from the '69 kit were tossed in too if I'm not mistaken. -Steve -

Great tip Mark, I'll have to give that a try next time I have to deal with those cut lines. As for the upcoming MPC '68 Dodge Coronet kits, that won't be an issue as the stock hood won't have any cut lines to fill in. Instead, you'll also get a Custom hood that is already been opened with a choice of optional hood scoops. Just one of many improvements made to the original MPC design. -Steve -
I don't know if Moebius will ever give us a Police Pursuit specific version, but it should be easy enough to make with some kit bashing with earlier Plymouth kits. Here's one I did of a 65 Plymouth State Patrol car. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/119408-65-belvedere-kansas-highway-patrol/ -Steve

Well that can't any worse then building not one, but two box art models the with horn installed on the firewall. I fixed the Pro-Street Coronet build later but my 69 GTX build clearly shows my mistake on the box and it's still currently the same way in my collection. -Steve

Hopefully you've seen the last of the instruction sheet horn vs wiper motor error regarding AMT's modern tool B-body platform. The instructions will now show part #141 wiper motor which is actually on one of the chrome trees kind of hidden in plain sight. As for future kits no news yet but some announcements are expected soon .... -Steve

There're no tooling changes planned for the Ala Kart reissue, only an updated decal sheet and instructions. Probably revised box art, that's it. -Steve

AMT/Model King 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente
SteveG replied to Stevearado's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Everything above plus the trophy and the little dog have been restored. Also, the pocketed holes for the mirrors and antenna will be revised to blind holes that can be opened from the underside. Anything beyond that like an opening hood would have required a lot of expensive new tooling, I think that would be better spent on cloning something not previously re-issued. -Steve -
The TV/Movie car announcement we're all waiting on from Round2 is not "The Batman" movie car. The current project has been in development for well over a year. It's certainly possible we see may this new Batmobile one day from somebody but it's not on the Round2 drawing board, at least not yet. -Steve
-
Thanks for mention but it was really a group effort. Round2 has a dedicated team working behind the scenes. A single kit re-issue takes weeks of work and the efforts of about of about a dozen people before production can even start. Even with all the checks that they have in place, mistakes do happen. Most are caught but this one slipped through. Luckily this one was fixable. -Steve

Robert, Thanks for pointing this out, you're correct that the 427 version should have the base style Fairlane door trim. Long story short, it came down to plain old human error. The good news as the proper inserts that produce the base Fairlane door trim have been found. I'm told that any reorders of this kit will now have the correct interior side panels. There has also been an order placed for some replacement parts. This will not happen overnight, but if you go to Round2's website and click on the Parts/Instructions link you'll be able to request the correct style trim parts through their normal channels. -Steve

Without getting too technical into body tooling design, I can tell you that the tooling changes that were made were done within the limitations of what was already cut. The cost of doing that was not cheap by any means. The alternative would a have been scrapping that body tool and making another which would have added around 50K to the cost and would have set the project back many months or they could have just done nothing and went forward with it as it was. While not perfect by any means, I think they made the right call. As for 3D scanning all the new projects, I think we'll get there eventually but were not there yet. I can tell you that the early development of the Moebius Chevy II kits goes back a whole lot farther than most people know. Long before the new ownership OK'd moving forward on the project. I doubt they would have approved it if they had to start from scratch. -Steve

As currently planned, the RT version will have an optional wheel choice. The other two versions planned will either have an optional wheel choice and or other optional parts which I can't really discuss since they have yet to be officially announced. -Steve
-
If there was going to be a New Charger Police Pursuit version hypothetically speaking I expect it would probably have your basic marked unit parts. Considering that the planned parts count for the announced RT version is on the high side, I wouldn't expect to see eight different light bars like Lindberg did with their kit. Even with the overside size box Lindberg used on their Chargers, the additional parts barely fit. There's only so many parts that can fit into one kit. Again, hypothetically speaking I wonder if there would be any interest in a modern Police Accessory parts pack for those additional items like dash cams, speed enforcement, additional warning lamps, etc. I would expect to see the aftermarket industry stepping up too. With the popularity of 3D printing now, if the equipment is in use, you'll probably be able to get in scale one way or another. -Steve

Chevrolet to GMC conversion..
SteveG replied to michaelbaskett's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The 1984 issue Big Foot kit is now the 1979 Ford F350 4x4 Super Stones kit as best as I can tell. I'm not sure how much of those parts are actually in USA-1 Monster Truck kit but I can certainly look into it down the road. -Steve -

Once all the orders are filled on the current USA-1 Monster Truck version, which is part of the same tooling we'll be able to take a closer look at what can be reissued. I think the 454-SS and the Stepside kits are both good choices. -Steve -

Currently the tooling for the C 3500 Dually kit is missing, otherwise it would have been on my reissue list already. -Steve -
I agree the decals were not the best. As far as the instructions go I would need to verify the details of intake options. According to the Bonediggers kit review, the Red Ram Hemi was originally equipped with the Hilborn injection. Later, the Hilborn injectors were replaced by 4 Stromberg 97 carburetors, first with Scott Injecta Top air horns, then with more conventional bell top air filters. Can anyone confirm that's correct ? -Steve
-
I can confirm it's the modern tool AMT-Ertl era kit that we are getting this time around, it's scheduled for July, but everything has been arriving late so Aug or Sept is more likely. Steve
-
I believe that the wheels and the grille are being re-tooled to match the original version of this kit. -Steve

I'm a fan of these Craftsman Series kits so running the '64 Comet again is a no-brainer for me as well. Stay tuned .... -Steve -
The complete Fuel Injection parts are in there, it's shown on the instruction sheet as an engine building option for this release. -Steve

The original 66 Mustang GT Fastback kit had the same single exhaust chassis the other annuals. The upcoming kit will use the 66 Coupes chassis with the molded in dual exhaust as Mark stated. -Steve

That part was copied straight from the original kit but obviously it's not correct. Hopefully it will be revised with the other pending changes. -Steve- 216 replies
