Question for NASCAR builders
dwc43 replied to raisin27's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
The rules back then said stock only except what changes NASCAR would allow for safety. I could not find the 56 Ford engine, but in that race there were at least 2 Chrysler 300 B cars running Hemi's and they have dual carbs. Here's a pic of one of those for proof. Here's a short interesting read. http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z15070/Ford-NASCAR-Stock-Car.aspx Early in 1955, Ford cars had just one NASCAR victory since the series began in 1949. Meanwhile, Chevrolet was advertising its wins and attracting customers. As a countermeasure, Ford formed its first NASCAR factory team and built two cars. They were powered by the new overhead-valve 'Y block' V8 engine. In stock trim, with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, it produced 182 horsepower. The cars were painted a vivid purple, which caricatures of snorting wild boars on the front fenders. Not very close up pics, but you can see the lack or roll cage and the stock interior panels and how nice they tried to make the car look on the inside as well as the stock roll up windows that were required by the rules back then. Looks like it did have dual carbs. http://www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/media/news/548950.html Over four years of research and restoration went into constructing the No. 99 replica which was completed in 1998. The car has been featured in a documentary film detailing Turner's life and has earned numerous car show awards. It is powered by a Ford Y block engine with a dual four-barrel intake and breather. The car still carries its original Ford identification plate. Hope that helps out some. Best I could come up with on such short notice. -

You are more than welcome and I totally agree with your last statement. -

You can get them in the Hippie Hemi and the Digger Cuda too. Ross Gibson has them too, but the two engines I have got from him are a pain to work with. -
Looking good. Can't wait to see the finished project. Hope you build the others to go with it too. You need the whole set .... lol.
-
Maybe these will help you.

Sounds like a cool project. Look forward to seeing it. MY brother had a 93 like that, but it was gold on the bottom.

Nice engine. I kinda like the moons. IT just seems to go with it. They just fit it.

'57 Chevy Bel Air Convertible - 1/16 - Junk Car

WoW! Working windows and seats. Never seen that before. Great job. Look forward to seeing more of this build. -
I had bought some elmers at the time I got this stuff from Hobby Lobby. I had seen it used on here and thought as some point I would try it. I asked around at the time and was told the paint trick would be better and not show through. I have not had the chance to try it yet since I have been working on race car models and my real shop and real race cars. I traded for a vette on here and he wants to see my build. I've put it off long enough and I need to get on it. I may try the paint and glue on some spoons and see which is easier for me to do. What do you thin your glue with??
-
Not a bad idea. I had not thought of that. Thanks.
-
IF I was to make some very thin paint and use it to glue down some embossing powder for the real carpet look and it piles up and looks crappy, can I purple pond it to get rid of the paint holding the powder to the floor? I only have one car and doubt I could find another, so I have to get this right the first time, or have a way to fix it if it messes up. I guess I should try it on something else first, but I don't have a lot of spare stuff to waste it on. And it never hurts to ask, right?

I found two and they are both painted, but who knows if it's correct or not. -
Nice. Off to a good start so far. Are you going to leave the leaf springs in place or put in the ladder bar coil over disc brake rear like the movie car had? You can see it in the clip near the beginning where they change the slicks at the road side park after the opening race and cop chase. I started one of these some time ago and boxed it for now after cutting up 3 bodies. All I could find was the Revell street burner to use for mine. I don't think it will ever look as good as yours. IT's just not a good model to start this build with.

Anyone up for a new CBP... edited street trucks in

I have a D50. Wonder if a Hemi and ladder bars will fit? -
Don't know if this is true or has been discussed here already, but I got it in a club e mail tonight and thought I'd share. Linderg Shuts Down Word came down on a number of the internet message boards that Lindberg has ceased production of kits again. The current manager and driving force behinds it's recent revival Ernie Petit was released from the company and all production shut down.

How about that silver/gray metallic with black stripes. Something kinda like the paint job on the bad guys car in "Christene". I am not a camaro guy, but I thought that one looks pretty good.
-
Sorry about that. I thought you was trying to do the 426 instead of the older Hemi's I noticed that too, but we run ours upside down on our real race cars. But, ours are made to run either way. IT cuts down on unsprung weight and helps handling in out case.

I see what you are saying, but when it comes to the models they don't make them quite right to put the blower and the mag or dist where they should go. Now for the real thing, they make offset gear drives and such to mount the dist or mag when the blower gets in the way. They have some that run off the cam right out the front of the timing chain cover. Fords are the worse and they make a gear driven deal that sits in the stock dist hole and the dist sits in the drive offset away from the blower drive. Another thing that gets in the way on the real ones is T stat or radiator hose mounts. They make cast offset housings for those too.

Anytime. I used to own a 392 Hemi. It had an auto tranny with a torque converter and between the engine and the converter is a clutch assembly. So you could rev this thing up, dump the clutch and let the auto shift the gears. And yes, that is a stock tranny set up, nothing custom. It worked pretty good for back then, but a stock A727 would out shift it any day.
-
He's running a 426 Hemi. See the mag in the front. So the starter would have to be on the left. Your old 329 with the mag in the back has the starter on the right. I did notice that the oil lines look like they go in the rear instead of the front of the block though on his 426 and the mag is not properly located, but the blower drive might be in the way. That's what I hate about blowers, it's hard to get the dist. or mags where they are supposed to be. Both of you have some nice builds though.

I'll have to get one of those. I can do the 427 powered car that Burt Reynolds drove in Gator. Just need some wide black steel wheels and a 427 4 spd.
