As they say in British parliament, "Hear, hear!" And just to be both illuminative and obnoxious: Hear, hear is an expression used as a short, repeated form of hear him, hear him. It represents a listener's agreement with the point being made by a speaker. In recent usage it has often been re-analysed as here, here, although this is incorrect.[1] It was originally an imperative for directing attention to speakers, and has since been used, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, as "the regular form of cheering in the House of Commons", with many purposes, depending on the intonation of its user.[2] Its use in Parliament is linked to the fact that applause is normally (though not always) forbidden in the chambers of the House of Commons and House of Lords.[3]

If you dig deeper into the Lauren site, you'll see that he has a number of 1/8 cars from his collection at the same price. Of course, some large scale models from Wingrove and Fine Art Models can hit $30,000 or more.

They already did a Surprofilé. An Atalante would be very cool. There's a 1/8 Atlantic pre-built out there, at megabucks ($9,500 at Ralph Lauren's website). http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12282160&utm_medium=12282160&utm_source=Shoppingdotcom&utm_campaign=CSE

That may be the most astounding combination of top-level quality and quantity that I've seen. The authenticity on the Mercedes SSKL is truly impressive, from the correct color under the fenders to the red cylinder head. The only thing I would have changed is to make the wheel drums copper, though some restored versions haven't bothered with that. Is that a 1/32 model?

why do some people insist on details?

Foil on the multiple curves of a bumper would be very challenging, don'tcha think? I remember way back in the day when I tried to use thin kitchen foil on something as simple as a windshield frame, and it was quite a bear. BMF came along in the 70s, but it was mostly known to aircraft modelers. -

When were those days? Before the Internet and search grew, there was no Alclad and there were no model car chroming services. And believe me, I tried to find such a service. It was well into the 90s before the public was really getting into home computers, the Internet, search and online marketing and sales. Everything mushroomed so fast that it's easy to forget how young our Internet capabilities are. -

One minor piece of aftermarket detail that makes a lot of difference to me is mesh grille screen for the types of cars that I build - old sports cars and classics. Looks a lot better than the molded-in kit grille patterns. Simple to use for many kits, after sanding away the kit grille mesh from behind. Lots of different sizes available. -
Get ready. John's Bentley thread is a heck of a ride. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=50534&page=1

Based on the finished thread by 340-6, I think I'll pass on this kit, but here's a complete one on eBay for a $9.99 starting price. Might be worth following if it can be had for a bargain. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ENTEX-JAGUAR-XJ-S-1-16-SCALE-UNBUILT-/330852318716?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item4d0855bdfc

Alex Kustov did a beautiful job on a 1/24 Lusso from Scale Kraft and R&M of Maryland. Click on the Review link in his text. http://www.italianhorses.net/Gallery/Resin/SKLusso/lusso.htm -
From Danbury's Facebook page: Danbury Mint Die-Cast Cars September 27, 2012 Earlier this year, our primary factory for die-cast replicas abruptly closed. Since then, we have been working to restart our die-cast business, essentially from scratch. This is a long and difficult process. We wish there was more encouraging information, but as of right now, we simply don't know when or whether we will be able to produce more cars. Thanks for your patience and understanding. November 7 seems to have been their last post. This is from October. The phone number may glean some current information: Danbury Mint Die-Cast Cars October 11, 2012 These 10 cars have 10 or less left. Call us to order 1-800-321-1964 (M-F, 9-5 ET). I don't know how anyone can form an opinion -- which is a judgment -- based on nothing: no knowledge, no information, no clear subject matter to respond to. -

Since you're asking for opinions, can you show pictures of the 1:1 taillights and the intended kit replacements? -

Last I heard, Alex Kustov is archiving their forums, tutorials, etc., at www.italianhorses.net The Brian's Model Cars website, now shut down. -
Breaking the seal does not kill the collector value. If you want to resell it, especially for older kits that may have been subject to stacking or heat problems, you can confirm that the parts inventory is complete and in good shape. On eBay, I have often asked for the seller to open the box to confirm that, and about half of the sellers have done that for me. You should also open it for your own peace of mind that everything is in order.

Very nice so far. I'm watching last January's Barrett-Jackson, and they have an awesome gold convertible version.

Revell Germany 1/24 Ferrari 250GTO for 2013

larrygre seems to have the right attitude. I am constantly amazed on this forum topic about how many pages a thread can run with one uninformed opinion after another regarding a kit that has yet to see the light of day. -
January Barrett-Jackson
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's the oldest theme in the capitalist world - supply and demand. I think I'll scream the next time someone uses the trite old cliché, "more money than brains." What an arrogant attitude (generally expressed by people without the kind of brains it takes to make that sort of money). Why would private collectors, not institutions, pay $237 million for a Cézanne painting? Or $35 million for a 1937 Bugatti Atlantic? Because they can, and I don't see how that is for others to judge. -
January Barrett-Jackson
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't get your story. Where does Barrett-Jackson come into this? Of course, there are lots of good auctions, and I can't comment on how they're better, but all of them have reputations to uphold - Mecum, Russo & Steele, Gooding's, RM, etc. Why so much hate for B-J? I haven't seen a single negative post here that offers an informed, reliable opinion.
