In recent years, they've reissued some Pyro kits of classic cars like the Auburn Speedster, and chromed pieces that weren't that way in the Pyro kits.

High End Model kit advice
sjordan2 replied to hyrvine's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A lot of it depends on what kind of cars you want to build. Lots of 30s cars available in 1/16. 1/12 has the Airfix Blower Bentley that requires a certain amount of adding detail, the Monogram 1/8 kits including the Jaguar E-Type, Camaros, Corvette, etc., lots of Tamiya 1/12 Porsche race versions, 1/12 240Z, look on eBay for Tamiya 1/12 Caterhams, and I think Tamiya is coming out with a 1/12 Porsche Carrera GT along the lines of your Enzo. Also many large-scale F1 cars. You may have to look on eBay for many of them. Only a few large-scale, high-detail kits issued in the last 2-3 years, including the Lola T70, Trumpeter Ford GT40, Revell Mustang GT, and Airfix Blower Bentley reissue. Level of detail varies but, of course, large scale makes it easier to add your own detail. Here is Tamiya's description of the upcoming Porsche Carrera GT: This is a 1/12 scale premium assembly model kit of the Porsche Carrera GT. Assembly of the delicately curved body follows that of the full-size car. Durable die-cast suspension arms are combined with working dampers and stabilizers for real-action suspension. Metal-hinged doors, hood and rear cowl open realistically to display the fully detailed interior and V10 engine. The rear wing pops up to the extended position when the license plate is pressed, while the hard-top can be removed and stored under the hood to show off the convertible style of the Porsche. Specs and Features This is an assembly kit version of Item 23206 1/12 Porsche Carrera GT Semi-Assembled Premium Model. Under panel, front trunk, and suspension arms are made from durable die-cast metal parts. Under panel part is pre-painted. Vinyl tubing depicts ignition cords, brake cables, etc. Photo-etched parts are included to depict mesh covers. Metal transfers depict emblem and rearview mirror surfaces. Decals, masking stickers, and seatbelt material included. 2 types of screwdrivers are included for easy assembly of some parts. -

Just make sure you have an up-to-date browser. Since their recent site re-do, I can't use Photobucket anymore until I upgrade my Mac's operating system and browsers. If all else fails, just click on "Use Full Editor" on the forum to make a post, and upload attachments directly from your computer. (To attach images to a reply, click on More Reply Options) -

Interesting. My fine-point Prismacolor flows just right and is brighter metallic than most of the other brands. I haven't had to dip the point in thinner, but that might help for a balky flow.

Prismacolor also has an excellent fine-point silver - very bright metallic. Got mine at Hobby Lobby.

60s TV babes? I vote for Stefanie Powers, The Girl From UNCLE. I met her when I was an intern at Warner Bothers, when she was the main squeeze of William Holden. About six-feet tall and more luscious in person than a film camera could ever capture. -

Well, since no intelligent or responsible response is forthcoming, time for me to close my own thread. -
Monogram '53 Corvette vs AMT '53 Corvette?
sjordan2 replied to Aaronw's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As I implied, he's figured out the Ferrari surrounds (hand-cut), but has nothing for Corvette mesh. It would be separate operations for surrounds and mesh. I suspect that the best answer for the Corvette is a lot of very precise filing, and perhaps some re-chroming. But I wouldn't be happy with the box-stock headlight mesh. www.italianhorses. net. -
Monogram '53 Corvette vs AMT '53 Corvette?
sjordan2 replied to Aaronw's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I mentioned this on another thread, but my biggest concern about this kit is the headlight mesh. All 53 Corvette kits have headlight mesh that is very thick and seems to just sit uncomfortably on the headlight body recesses, and aftermarket PE mesh looks like it needs some hand molding that would be far beyond my skills. I wish someone who has conquered this problem would show us the results. Same goes for chrome headlight glass surrounds on most XK-E and Ferrari kits, which are too thick - even on the 1/8 XK-E, which needs to be thinned out considerably. Alex Kustov has figured it out for the Ferraris. -
$425,000,000! What would you do?

It would be a start toward running for President. -
Photobucket problem
sjordan2 replied to 91blaze's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've occasionally had that problem with some jpeg view images where my rotated image won't save, but not on Photobucket. The only way I've conquered it is to rotate to the proper orientation, then make a cropped screen shot, and upload again. That takes care of it. -
I think I just soiled myself.

A little clarification, please
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've done that before, actually, just to get a point out there without creating conversation that could get out of hand. For example, if given the information, I've offered to create a post-and-lock topic with contact information for the people who are selling John Teresi's Garlits images without his consent. I'd love to see our members descend with e-mail on the people who are ripping him off. -
A little clarification, please
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Right. I've learned after posting this thread that the other thread wasn't shut down by moderators, and I mentioned that above. I f the OP did it, I'd still like to know why. And I think that anyone who locks a topic should explain why. -
A little clarification, please
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think it was just a small mistake based on the content of another thread being confused with this one, or part of the thread I was asking about that I didn't see (some discussion about the quality of education and no child left behind - didn't see that). But I don't know why that would have caused this particular thread to be shut down. And I'd still like to know who shut down the other thread in question - wasn't the moderators. That said, I do have a problem with the times when threads are locked with no explanation. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't. But nothing can be learned without knowing reasons. -
1. Who locked the topic on "You have to speek the language?" 2. Why? It was nothing rowdy, just a good conversation among members. The use and misuse of language on this forum is a repeated subject that we talk about frequently, and illumination helps make for better conversations and less responses from spelling and grammar Nazis like me. An explanation of why this thread was locked is in order, for future reference.

Great work, and superb foiling. Can you get a couple of outdoor shots to show off the color better? I'm looking for a rare Mercedes 300 SL color, Strawberry Red Metallic, and am trying to find something close. This looks very good, but darker than the Tamiya TS-59. Did you use an undercoat?

Realistically, don't worry about it. When was the last time you heard about a copyright holder coming down on a post in a forum? -
sharing scans of books........
sjordan2 replied to B_rad88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, watermarks are generally used by sites like iStock and Getty Images and individual photographers to prevent commercial use of the images without buying them. Usually downloadable for use in rough layouts for presentation to clients, sometimes available in file sizes without watermarks that are too small for publication. Not a deterrent for online forum informational use. Of course, ANYTHING you can see on your computer screen can be copied with a screen shot, for use anywhere. Except my Mac can't do screen shots of still frames when I pause a DVD. But there are downloadable apps that are available for that. -

Nothing wrong with the limited use you suggest, and to a certain point it's quite legal. As to owners of saleable material, there is an awesome car photographer (www.schlegelmilch.com) who makes his images available to registered site members for posting however they want. He makes money from doing coffee-table books and selling beautiful prints of these shots, but posts them on his site in smaller file sizes, with a very subtle watermark, for anyone to use. -

Where you're most likely to get into trouble is if you make unapproved copies of copyrighted materials for commercial purposes or profit. For example, people who have offered copyrighted material that they have compiled themselves, for sale on a place like eBay - Ferrari and others have come down hard on those offerings. And we've seen small, cottage-industry decal makers get cease-and-desist orders from copyright holders. A few years ago, I was able to obtain complete digital files of things like Ferrari and Jaguar owner's manuals and parts manuals, and I never see them anymore on eBay. Today, the copyright police have more resources than ever. Scanning a whole book is right in there with piracy of copyrighted materials like DVDs, music, etc. Not a good idea, and I certainly wouldn't make it available online.
