Pardon me if this subject has been covered before, but...On other forums, I get notifications in my regular e-mail about receiving Personal Messages via the forum. Not so here. I apologize to those who have sent me PMs that I didn't respond to, because I didn't know I had to keep checking. I wouldn't have discovered this if a member hadn't made a forum post saying he had sent me a PM, which I thought I didn't receive, but I found it when I went searching at the top of the forum page. Do I need to change my settings? At the Antique Automobile Club of America forum, I get regular e-mail notifications of: 1. Personal messages 2. New posts on threads I'm following

Steve, that build is awesomely awesome! Tell him how much it costs. -

...and if you get a front row seat around here, sometimes you need protective plastic sheeting like Gallagher's audience. -
Mike - where did you find the Gullwing shots? Interesting to see the white spaceframe, which was used for factory press releases so you could see it better than the production black.

J.D. Power best & worst cars, 2012
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The dependability study has to do with how well the cars have performed over a cumulative 3-year period. I don't think we'll have those kind of statistics on 2012 cars for a while, as Erik noted. -

Dang. That knowledge thing always gets in the way. -

Decide for yourself among all three here. Christian appears to be right about mare-Tsay-dess, but I think I'm right about bents. http://www.forvo.com.../mercedes-benz/ -

Don't you mean...? Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you? As to your post, it should be mare-seh-dess. C doesn't take a t sound in German, but the z does. Just to be more irritatingly pedantic: Daimler, as used in Daimler-Benz, is dime-ler, not dame-ler. Don't know about the original British Daimler. And if you really want to go whole hog, Benz is pronounced bents. But overall, just go with the way they say it in their TV commercials. Pre-approved by the corporate office for usage worldwide. -

I say "Ni." But I'll stop if you bring me a shrubbery. -
Very nice shots. But I agree with the comments that implied that the snow looks out of scale and should be packed down.

This guy seems to get it closest to the way I hear it from Japanese builders. Again, no emphasis on any particular syllable. -

• A Japanese sushi chef once told me that you're always safe in pronouncing Japanese words if you never emphasize any individual syllable. Just use a flat monotone. • My survey of Japanese modeling videos seems to indicate that the normal pronunciation of Tamiya is TAHM-YAH, with the 'i' not pronounced at all. -
The sad state of a multimillion-dollar car
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I certainly agree with you on that. To this day, I don't understand the huge, up to $1 million plus, that some 60s pony cars/muscle cars bring in at auction, many of which - sorry, guys - were Mopars that were never highly thought of for quality when they were new. Muscle, yes. Quality, no. I was there. -
That's what "man up" means. Thanks.

The sad state of a multimillion-dollar car

Just cars? Does that mean that you should just hang an original daVinci in the basement stairway and not worry about it because it's just a sketch? These are one-of-a-kind pieces of art and technology. Do you think cars are just cars and can't rise to the level of exquisite art? -

The sad state of a multimillion-dollar car
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's a 1954 Ferrari 250 Monza, on display this week at Retromobile Paris. It was discovered in Uruguay in this condition in around 1970, having been campaigned in South America for several years. They just recently found the original engine, and here it is in all its aluminum glory. 5 million Euros "as is." -
It may not have much to do with warranty questions, but I think you might be able to get a good deal on the Kodak since they announced this week that they're getting out of the camera business.

kit instruction site link
sjordan2 replied to route66modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, that is great to know. Is there a page where you can find kits by product number, since that's the only way their instructions are indicated? -
Yes, Chuck, awesome shots. What filters did you use? Looks like very subtle and artistic use of a watercolor filter, plus some other mojo thrown in.

So where are the baptizing shots in the pond? I bet you look even skinnier soaking wet

kit instruction site link
sjordan2 replied to route66modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is a very well-known website, but it's amazing how many people don't know about it, or don't bookmark it for future reference. Questions about instructions still show up all the time here. It's great not just for replacing lost instructions, but also for analyzing what's in a kit you might buy. Biggest drawback: No organization or search capability, other than by manufacturer name (However, if you luck upon the right screen, which is hard to find, you can narrow it down to model decades). Bookmark it!! -
How many people on this forum actually participate in model contests? Seems to me from everything I see that it's sketchy at best how all that stuff works. It all makes me certain that I would never enter a contest. How rewarding is that, anyway, when the judging is so undependable and won't give your model the objective criticism/accolades it deserves? We seem to have more complaints than appreciation, and who needs that? Fuggeddaboutit.
