  1. Dr. Cranky's eyes will be protruding into space. These are awesome, and among the few builds shown on this forum where a hammer was involved.
  2. You might also post this in the trucks section or retitle this to say trucks/heavy equipment
  3. And that is valuable...how...?
  4. Certainly not a masochist. A committed artist and professional. When I think about that, I think about wives who don't get the hobby. For Alex, of course, he is an artisan and a professional. Speaking with a VERY broad brush, and not about my life, I think such wives just don't understand art and artists. This is very common and understandable among people who are model builders. You would get more respect if you built traditional sailing ships like Grandpa or were into model railroads, like old guy hobbies of the olden days.
  5. Are you eligible to cast the first stone?
  6. If it's a Grade 1-5 elementary system, just wait until they start Middle School and find out they've fallen from the top of the heap to the bottom.
  7. Not nearly as interesting or as funny, though.
  8. Pretty funny, well said, and true, so true. I'd just like to mention that in contrast to all the "Mr. Hyde" personalities mentioned, we're also lucky to have a large number of nicer "Dr. Jekyll" types who fill out the picture of forum personalities: The Inspirer with amazing builds, The Helper with experienced advice and resource information, The Cheerleader for good builds (I know this can get out of hand, but there's nothing wrong with attaboys), and so on. Of course, there are the all-around Good Guys whom we frequently see step in to offer moral support to those with problems in and out of the hobby. All part of the pleasure of frequenting this site. I'm sure other forum members have some favorites of their own.
  9. I wonder if the center dash section is supposed to be black like this '62 LHD. The plastic seems to be molded that way.
  10. I don't know what your intentions are, but I would hope that you would build it as a street car and not competition/ rally. All of those decals and rally lights totally obscure the beauty of this car.
  11. I've been studying this question for years. Is there a dull spray can paint that is more charcoal than black? This relates to painting fabric convertible tops on vintage cars, and almost everything I can find is too black. Has to be spray can because I can't afford an airbrush. Most "flat black" spray can colors are too black, and the only thing that comes close is NATO black, which I can't find, and which needs a hit of flat clear. Any suggestions?
  12. Grammar Nazi/Police Every forum has one of these. They will not only go to great lengths to correct simple misspelled words, but will also try and correct it as well. They will venture into the realm of grammar as well. This forum poster is usually dismissed by the forum community as someone with nothing more to contribute than their good spelling. It should be try TO, not try AND.
  13. Nobody has said it specifically that I can see, but he now calls it a "built" model and not "pro-built." Therefore, I don't buy into the validity of any argument that he meant "pre-built," and I think he was using scamming salesmanship. Why would anyone say "pre-built" anyway? Could it be "post-built" later?
  14. Here's a build and discussion by the late, great Martin Swire. I think you're as capable as he was of making something special out of it. http://www.freewebs.com/martsmodels/1957corvette.htm
  15. How about a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, General Lee style? Except you're SOL if you weld the doors shut.
  16. If you're trying to post images from a photo hosting site like Photobucket or Fotki, the forum will automatically resize the image.
  17. If I were to actually get around to building something, it would be my memory of a day in college (late 60s) when some friends and I broke into an abandoned racetrack and had our own minirace: a Sunbeam Tiger, a 427 Corvette convertible, a Jaguar OTS E-Type and my Alfa Giulietta Spider Veloce. Needless to say, the Corvette was the clear winner (the owner was a fearless guy who kept coming within inches of the grandstand wall, and became a Navy SEAL after graduation). Scary fun until we had to start avoiding cars that spun out in the esses, not to mention a couple of grazing horses who had deposited their feces on the track.
  18. I disagreed with you because I misread your post and went off into Wonderland. Mea culpa. Duh. (Sometimes, senior moments are good - I can enjoy TV shows I've seen before without remembering how they come out. But sometimes, those moments aren't so good.)
  19. Knowing a bit about E-Types, I can't understand at all why you wish you hadn't parted with it. Unless you are heir to a British lord's mammoth estate. Jaguar's Sir William Lyons, commenting on the C-Type, said that Jaguars should last at least 3 years.
  20. Not so. We have several members here who are real pros, who put together models for the box top photography of kits, who operate their own companies to create resin kits and aftermarket parts, and who, over many decades, have been employed by large model car manufacturers to create kits and bring them to market. I would add that the guys at Moebius, Aardvark, TDR, etc., are regular participants on this forum.
  21. The best Hornet build I've seen from any source. Good job. But if it's a police car, doesn't it need more I.D.? Please show a lot more pictures.
  22. Seems to me that "pro-built" is in the eye of the beholder. The question is, does that have any real meaning or value, and who cares? Maybe it's a seller's PR sham, but this forum and other forums around the world are filled with hobbyists of astonishing capabilities who would not call themselves "pro builders" and do better than those who claim to be such. You can see the model in the eBay listing and determine if it's good or not, regardless of who built it, and decide to buy it or not. The marketplace will decide, regardless of "pro-built" claims. As has been mentioned here before, caveat emptor, and if a bidder can't tell the quality of an item, tough.
  23. I would love to see what you would do with Tamiya's Lotus 7 SII to replicate "The Prisoner" KAR120C. (Does that kit have the Ford Cosworth 1500 engine?)
  24. My mptions can withstand any criticism
