  1. I think MFH is the only one, though there are diecasts out there and a Fujimi 1/16 kit that isn't very accurate.
  2. I was just cruising the forums at the Antique Automobile Club of America site, and came across an interesting piece of information. According to the owner of one of only two factory-produced Continental Mark II convertibles, the retractable hardtop was originally meant for the Mark II, but that brand was shut down before it could be produced, so they transferred it to Ford for use on the Fairlane/Galaxie. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/06/look-at-what-i-found-1956-continental-mark-ii-convertible-by-hess-eisenhardt/
  3. I'm confused. That's a 1:1. What are the details on a new kit?
  4. Paul, that is outstanding. Seems to me that, just like any kit, some resourcefulness and TLC can make quite a good model out of this. As you alluded to, though, motorized kits make a lot of compromises in accuracy and detail. I think it's interesting that the Fuman reissues of many kits use the Bandai instruction sheet covers as their box art. I wonder if that has to do with not wanting to pay royalties to the original box art photographers, or is used simply to create differentiation.
  5. For somebody who says you don't know what you're doing, you sure look like you know what you're doing.
  6. This is the best I could find, Chuck. Never seen one built, but I built its sister model in the series, the Alfa Romeo Gran Sport, which was overly simplistic with low detail and a very undersized engine. When I built the Alfa, I thought the body was also inaccurate, but it was quite good when I realized the kit was of the 1966 replica built by Zagato for Alfa – which wasn't particularly accurate to the original. http://www.etsy.com/listing/73704649/excalibur-ssk-mercedes-car-model-kit112 EDIT: Brush up on your German for more detailed info: http://pochermodellbau.foren-city.de/topic,289,-bandai-excalibur-ssk-1-12.html
  7. So what if the builder wants to do a hearse version? Why all the hand-wringing? What's wrong with referring to it as the "last ride," which it would be as a hearse? Just because it creeps someone out personally doesn't mean that the builder should be criticized.
  8. You might keep an eye on eBay. http://toys.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=1%2F24+tire+decals&_sacat=2580&_sop=10&LH_PrefLoc=2&_odkw=1%2F16&_osacat=2580&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
  9. Not to be a wet blanket, but there are so many other websites and Google-available resources, I don't know why MCM should have to incorporate this stuff into the site in addition to everything that's here. In fact, much of this stuff has passed through this website over time, but the sad fact is that modelcarsmag.com has a TOTALLY USELESS search function. If you're looking for an answer to something, I suggest using the search function at scaleautomag.com, which is pretty good.
  10. Seems like Andrey (CEKPETHO BCE) has been looking at some old threads for the first time and wanted to compliment them. Nothing wrong with that.
  11. After all your hard work, it turned out killer.
  12. Absolutely stunning! Do the hood struts come with the kit?
  13. There is a very simple answer to this: Google.
  14. There are plenty of ways to get at this, and the simplest one is to have a library of links. Personally, I would just ask people to go to Brian's Model Cars. http://www.briansmodelcars.com/tutorials/index Or go to the tutorials at italianhorses.net. Or just get some of our members to supply their favorite links.
  15. As Bob Downie (Zoom Zoom) mentioned, this thread is not about what new kits you want to see. It's about what existing kits you would like to see done better or totally done over.
  16. John, I don't know how you keep cranking out these masterpieces. This subject is of zero interest to me but the build is awesome and is something to learn from. What's next?
  17. At the risk of posting a comment, this is shaping up as one of the best of this car that I've seen.
  18. Hey, it earned him the Order of the British Empire. Maybe you could get the MCM Medal of Honor.
  19. There's a series of 4 to 5 shots beginning here that may give you just a little more to go on. http://web.me.com/gawingrove/Bentley_Build/Gallery_-28.html#7
  20. Your photo shows where it's attached behind the brake lever, but the cutaway drawing doesn't show where it leads to at the front (it's obscured after it passes in front of the radiator shell). However, the cutaway shows that it threads through a second eye on the frame rail to the side of the radiator shell. There's another one of those wires on the passenger side, too. Just thought I'd throw in how the parts in your photos vary on another car.
  21. In general, I see very few metallic paints for models that have a fine enough metal flake size for 1/24-1/25 models, which can result in a certain "bass boat" effect. They just seem to make the finishes too sparkly. I wish more spray can colors were available as pearls.
  22. Seems to me that Talbot mirrors would be a common aftermarket part. I put them on my 50s and 60s Alfas.
  23. Killer!
