  1. Perfect silver & black long-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Series III. In Knoxville, it could only be a limo for hire.
  2. Wow. Very impressive.
  3. Very nice. It looks like you put the water tank in the right place and the windshield wiper bottle is extremely well done. You might want to paint a matte black seal around the inner lip of the hood opening that the hood sits on, plus black lines around the window frames to indicate those seals. What color do you intend to paint the interior?
  4. Superb. One of the best I've seen with proper "accurizing" and addition of missing parts. Do you have a front view of the finished model? No, he drove a Blower Bentley closer to this with a fixed canvas top (though described as having a dull gray skin like an elephant, which I take to mean primer).
  5. So far, so good. Any progress?
  6. I used to use this one regularly for artwork, keyboards, cameras, eraser residue, etc. The squeeze bulb blows gentle air while brushing, but if I remember correctly, the brush may be a bit stiffer than the other suggestions. Check one out at an office supply store.
  7. That shield shouldn't look chromed. It should be close to the finish of the intake manifold or slightly shinier, so just use a metallizer paint or the dull side of the foil.
  8. Here's page 6 of a review of RAE models (an XK140), I can't locate the previous pages. http://www.network54.com/Forum/612068/thread/1229275479/last-1229546626/RAE+MODELS+Part+6 Found part 5 on the XK120 http://www.network54.com/Forum/612068/thread/1228074824/last-1228329939/RAE+MODELS+Part+5
  9. Looks great. By the way, where's the heat shield between the intake and exhaust manifolds?
  10. I don't see how it's a politics thing, without having had any partisan preferences. What we're discussing has gone through many administrations, with no singling out of anything, and no one has brought any of that up. All of our discussions have been very general, even the historic political environment has been part of it.
  11. To think we live in a world where a "Free Market" is unfettered is to ignore hundreds of congressional acts, regional laws, international trade agreement pacts and blockade-style tariffs since the beginning of the 20th century. Almost every "regulated" industry is prohibited from participating in some types of "free trade" in the marketplace. While a bailout is something we CAN do, what I've mentioned are things we CAN'T do. But it's ALL part of a supposedly free market system. Want to sell Parmesan cheese in a free market system? Not if the current lawsuit against Kraft and others, brought by the guild of Italian producers from Parmigiano-Reggiano, have their way. Patent and copyright/trademark laws also limit "free market" trade -- as do a million other influences
  12. Different situations have different levels of impact and deserve individual consideration.
  13. Sorry, I don't have an "either-or" philosophy about much of anything. There's plenty of room in this world for intelligent people to make things happen inside or outside of those parameters.
  14. GM has 219,000 employees worldwide, not to mention all the suppliers and their employees who depend on GM as a client. Something to think about if you're concerned about the bailout. The immediate and ripple effects of a GM shutdown would have had disastrous economic and personal consequences in manufacturing, supply chain and financial markets. In the wake of their financial problems, GM's slimming down of its product lines resulted in the closing and reassignment of several dealerships in my own mid-sized hometown, leaving a ton of people out of work at the dealer level alone. The ripple effect on the real estate industry during the recession left them with empty properties that no one wanted.
  15. Superb. Is this from the same company whose Porsches you built?
  16. Mesh should work. The filter canister is really a polka-dot series of round holes, but mesh would be a good choice at this scale. My plan was to build a shell out of cardboard and cover it with a scale print-out of something like the second picture or create my own pattern to print.
  17. GM's main response has been to appoint Mary Barra as CEO, the first woman to be named to such a position by a major global company. Though she has been a GM employee since she was 18, she hasn't been in the inner circle for more than a few years. She can represent the company now as someone who wasn't part of the decision-making ("Nossink, I know nossink" -- Sgt. Schultz). From a recent Today show interview with Matt Lauer (for which he took a lot of heat about sexism): LAUER: I want to tread lightly here. You’ve heard this, you heard it in Congress. You got this job because you’re hugely qualified, 30 years in this company a variety of different jobs. But some people are speculating that you also got this job because as a woman and as a mom because people within General Motors knew this company was in for a very tough time and as a woman and a mom you could present a softer image and softer face for this company as it goes through this horrible episode. Does it make sense or does it make you bristle? BARRA: Well it’s absolutely not true. I believe I was selected for this job based on my qualifications. We dealt with this issue — when the senior leadership of this company knew about this issue, we dealt with this issue. It doesn't hurt that she's photogenic.
  18. Regarding moving the water tank, the front of the engine bay is already too empty because the engine isn't long enough. If you move the engine forward, it could possibly interfere with the steering, depending on how far you take it. However, I think there's enough opportunity to move things around by a few millimeters. Test fit the water tank where it should go (keeping it on the radiator/oil cooler is NOT AN OPTION), then see how much you need to do with the windshield washer bottle and the firewall. I think you really just need to put the intake silencer together with a scratch-built air filter and move it forward a bit. Another option is to create a water tank that fits in the space. But the space between the front of the engine and the nose is really not particularly important, especially when the hood is open and obscures much of the front of the engine.
  19. I have no idea why this is duplicated.
  20. Interesting that I mentioned we used to have a large pinned section on tutorials that was removed by a moderator, but no one seems to remember it. The moderator in question said the same questions keep popping up time after time, and were covered in the clearly identified pinned tutorials at the top of the page, but no one looked at them, and people keep asking the same old things that are readily at their fingertips. So he removed a raft of excellent tutorials. It was the closest thing we've ever had to an FAQ section. If you want do this, you almost need your own website, with many separate sections. Here's one I posted there with a complete index, now long gone from this site: http://www.italianhorses.net/tutorials/tutorials.htm Jantrix, I think your idea is noble but you will totally be wasting your time on a forum that can't handle it, based on past experience.
  21. Well, there's an enlightened approach that I applaud heartily. We used to have an entire pinned section of tutorials, but someone saw fit to remove them all. If it isn't pinned, it's going to fall down into oblivion.
  22. GM, like other huge global operations, is filled with thousands of people in different operations. This gesture is much-needed PR for these guys, though I fear it won't be appreciated enough. The thing is, their hundreds of other divisions and profit centers are also filled with people who are deeply, personally affected by the millions of GM recalls, and take their disappointment and worries home at night. I had a taste of this when I was in Exxon's Houston ad agency, as lead person in charge of Exxon creative advertising during the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Exxon employees were literally crying in the hallways. When somebody says "corporations are people," this is what they mean.
  23. Ditto. Can't believe it was built in a weekend.
  24. Those are beautiful models and I totally share your taste in subject matter. Please post pictures after you've cleaned them!
  25. By wheel slots, I mean the 8 holes that run in a circle around the center. I think they look fine the way they are. What's going to get tricky is those very fat hubcaps, and they would take a lot of work to correct. As for me, I'd make racing wheels with knock-off spinners. The raised, sharp inner edges of the wheels around the center, where the hubcaps are glued, would have to be sanded and smoothed, then a tube with a flange mounted over the spindle, and 2-eared spinners would have to be made. I'm sure you already have wheel reference as to how that should look. Other than the things you're already working on (grille, front wheel track), the hubcaps and body seams are the most obvious exterior problems.
