  1. Who's doing the photoeteching? What would be a typical cost for the parts you're showing?
  2. Some of the Jo-Han Gold Cup classics, such as the Mercedes 500K roadster limousine, were unmatched. Amazing 1/25 wire wheels.
  3. 462 shots plus commentary on each chassis number. http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/cg/134/Ferrari-250-GTO.html
  4. I once worked with an art director who had been a designer on Mercedes product brochures in the early 70s. At the time, Mercedes had a policy of NO retouching of photos. He recalled the challenges of one particular photo shoot in the desert. First of all, you have to capture the lighting of the "golden hour" when the sun is starting to go down (work fast); secondly, they had to have a huge crew of production assistants to wipe off dust or other glitches between every shot -- sort of like a Formula 1 pit stop. And people had to clear the area quickly to avoid having their reflections in the shot. I have no idea how they pulled it off, since such set-ups usually require an array of reflectors, scrims and strobe lights on C-stands, not to mention the large battery packs and camera gear.
  5. Here's a very nice built-up version of the 1/16, with some commentary. (and yes, lights work) http://www.freewebs.com/martsmodels/1957corvette.htm And I see there's a new eBay listing... http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNBUILT-1987-MPC-TROPHY-SERIES-Model-Kit-6426-1-16-Scale-57-CORVETTE-/201140355948?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item2ed4e6436c
  6. I think my meaning is clear, and possibly not literal, though you apparently don't get a lot of things. How about "screwing us around?" "Messing with us?" "Being a total jerk?" So you can feel superior. And if this lame comment is all you can say, you're not refuting my other points. screw around (with somebody) (slang) 1. to annoy someone by wasting their time You'll be sorry if you screw around with Captain Legore.screw around (with somebody) (slang) Speaking of free advice, no shortage from you. Okay, this is enough -- the last time I bite on a fool's hate bait, or fuel it myself. Anyone can send any slings and arrows my way from now on, and I'll take it without defending myself in a confrontational way. I will work to respond in as cordial and mature a manner as I can, or not respond at all. While no one will be following this thread, I'll stand by that throughout this forum.
  7. You will note the following caption on the missile shot: IranMissilePhotoshop4.jpg Who did it or why, go figure. Or is that Ace's caption?
  8. How's the fit with the doors closed?
  9. I prefer to let the professionals do my killing for me, like Tyson Farms, Butterball, the Certified Angus Beef suppliers and the Deadliest Catch guys, et al. One way or another, animals get snuffed. But the pros don't miss, mutilate or just wound. And how we got here on this thread about embarrassing cars is a total mystery to me.
  10. I think one of the oldest stereotypes is one that's always been treated with warmth and respect -- The retired Grandpa who builds detailed sailing ship models, or ships in a bottle, or big airplanes, or is pictured modeling with a grandchild. As for cars...not yet.
  11. I think I should duplicate here the same message I recently posted in the 1:1 Car Reference section: I have bookmarked many links to reference sites for cars that I intend to build. However, I have found it important to download images and make pdf files of many of those links. Why? Many of them get shut down over time. Example: a builder's journal regarding the 1/16 Mercedes SS. Can't beat it for a step-by-step guide to building that model. But it's gone now and can't be retrieved. Fortunately, I saved everything from it. Plus, as you know, people often clean out their image files at places like Photobucket and Fotki, and you won't see some things if you just go to the web page. I recommend saving and downloading anything you find important in reference links to keep on your hard drive or backup drives, or to put into files.
  12. Or for a backup hard drive. My backup has many times the storage capacity of my desktop (500GB), for under $150.
  13. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-CORVETTE-1-16-SCALE-NEW-IN-OPEN-BOX-/161381139344?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item259310c390
  14. " And once I can squint and see how that model will look finished? Bam! I've lost interest. Finishing the model is an inconvenience since I've already seen it in my head. And that's where you want to run off to the next great idea." Tom's quote reminds me of how Alfred Hitchcock said he made movies. He planned every tiny detail well in advance and made storyboards of every shot, plus lighting diagrams. He said the movie was already done before they even rolled the camera.
  15. I've seen plenty of Pocher models and components at modelmotorcars. com and scalemotorcars. com, but this is just sick in the best way.
  16. Today in Knoxville, I saw a massive number of Nissans, Toyotas, Fords with an Aston grille, SUVs and a buncha other stuff. Wow. However, while I was waiting for my Infiniti to get serviced, I stepped into the dealer's Jaguar showroom to check out a 100% original XK 140. Nice.
  17. I know what you're talking about, but I've always rooted for attempts to do something special and different. Therefore, I'll heap a bit of praise on that stuff. (Which is not intended to conflict with your opinion. I agree with your assessment.).
  18. I agree. But the last time great ideas - answers to Frequently Asked Questions (a subject not covered on this forum) - got pinned in Tips/tricks, they were deleted by a moderator (not Harry).
  19. I am in no way religious, but I respect people who stand up for their beliefs and principles (except for Islamic jihadists). I have never in any way felt gospel-bombed at any Hobby Lobby, I wouldn't worry until guys in white short-sleeved shirts and black ties show up at your door with a Hobby Lobby catalogue.
  20. I have bookmarked many links to reference sites for cars that I intend to build. However, I have found it important to download images and make pdf files of many of those links. Why? 21. "Art is never finished, only abandoned." Leonardo da Vinci
  22. Any new ideas? Otherwise, this valuable thread will fade into oblivion, like the excellent tip ideas that were removed from a pinned section in Tips, Tricks and Tutorials by a former moderator. Amazing that a useless thread like "What did you get today?" continues after hundreds of posts, and is the most popular thread on this forum. I can't think of a single reason to care about who got what today, other than to see what they do with it.
