Very nicely done, and fun stuff to build! Back in the formative days of drag racing, all kinds of runners were built, not just the high end Hot Rod/Rod & Custom feature cars. Keep at it! We're all having fun looking at your stuff.

'37 Chevy Salt Flats Coupe - Bonneville or Bust!
Don Banes replied to Bernard Kron's topic in Model Cars
At some point, you jut might get another package of "stuff". My wife and I are on a search for another home. Presently, we live in Philadelphia. And I mean IN Philadelphia. We live in a very urban area, located in a neighborhood that's still more than good after twenty years. However, it's time for us to go. We need a bigger place for all of our accumulated (keeper) stuff, and we'd like some grennery (grass and trees) My "keeper" stuff is way too much, and I think you'll be getting some more likely model car candidates/donor kits/stuff to keep you building. Do you have room? If not, make some (or find some). I'll keep you posted. We went out this morning and looked at seven properties in the state of Delaware (not that far away). Two are official candidates, and the others are something to chuckle about. House hunting is always good for a few laughs. Those of you that have done it a few times know exactly what I'm talking about. -
Sweet! That's the way box art models should look, and I'm sure that was the intent of the original AMT Corporation way back in the day. That box art looks like something I would have posted on Modelcarlist a few years ago. I have an original kit, believe it or don't.
-
I saw both versions this past Friday. That would be the 2008 and '09 versions. They are unassembled promo's, except that the body unit is molded in white, and John Greczula has whipped up OUTSTANDING decal sheets for both versions. I'm gonna get me one of both. Talk about a perfect palate for cool paint? These two kits are the BOMB! BTW, I'll still buy the upcoming Revell kit, but we're dealing with oranges and apples here, insofar as comparisons are concerned. The Round 2/AMT kits were manufactured for the customer (Chrysler), and I'm betting they're about dead nuts for scale fidelity.

'37 Chevy Salt Flats Coupe - Bonneville or Bust!
Don Banes replied to Bernard Kron's topic in Model Cars
Wow! I'm flattered, and that build is perfect! I sent you that "stuff" so you'd have a foundation for a project or two, and I figured you'd get some use out of most of it! Keep pluggin' away, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the parts pack items. Thanks for the tribute build! I'm really not worthy, but I am humbled by your spiffy build up of the '37 Chevy kit! -
Actually the '55 to '57 T-Bird motor oil pans have a rear facing oil sump, while the passenger car oil pans have an oil sump up front. You did good, and we don't care anyway. We just want to see what you've built!
-
I bought the '32 pickup kit, as well as the '32 sedan delivery. I can vouch for the quality of both! Exceptional! My friend Kyle Willets did an excellent job on both!
-
This would be my (somewhat) educated guess on another Revell '32 variation. Somehow, I can't see them doing the B-400. However, I can see a '32 pickup (MAYBE). The '32 roadster pickup seems a little too far out for the bean counters at Revell. More than likely I'm off the mark on my predictions, and I hope not. Easy (and predictable) body styles would be: '32 sedan delivery '32 phaeton '32 Victoria (although the AMT kit is still out there, and serviceable). A Revell Victoria would put AMT's dated and tired kit to bed forever.
-
I remember that build from another board, and it's still SWEET! No time wasted on your phaeton, and the Revell tub is only a rumor.
-
I agree with you on the stance of the Revell '48 Ford 'vert and Woodrow. We need a dropped axle up front, and (perhaps) a flatter rear spring to bring that big '48 butt down. I think a coupe OR sedan would be a winner. The kit already has a nice, rodded flathead in it, so I'd like to see some kind of alternative engine under the hood.
-
Funny you should mention that. I suggested that idea to Bill Lastovich about two years ago (at the annual iHobby show in Rosemont, IL), and Ed Sexton before that. Ed isn't a tub kinda guy, but Bill appreciates street rods, and I hope he makes it happen. I also suggested a coupe or sedan variation of the '48 Ford kit to Bill. Actually, I nagged him about it. Let's hope that happens one day!

Who? Me? Nawwwwwww! I'd never copy anything you do, except for that gorgeous '32 Vicky and stellar Deuce Phaeton! Otherwise, I wouldn't think of copying anything you do. Ever. Never. Yup. Wouldn't do it.

I think the five window version is gonna be killer! All the right parts are there (save the tires, I think), and I'd bet that Revell will sell a pile of them. Maybe more than the two door sedan. On the subject (project) of the AMT (Victoria) to the Revell fenders/chassis? The body I used is from the most recent Dirttrack Racecars version of the kit. The body tooling is still pretty good after all these years. I removed the original kit reveal on the bottom edge of the body (outside), and added some sheet strene to the front leading edge of the cowl area, using the Revell '32 sedan body as a guide. The AMT Victoria body has a rear wheel well that has a plastic filler that needs to be removed (easily enough) and cleaned up. Amazingly, once that wheel well plastic is removed, the body will sit down over the Revell fenders with very little cleanup. I added more styrene than needed to the front cowl area, and did the trial and error look-see, until the AMT body sat on the Rvell fender/chassis unit perfectly. It's my opinion that the AMT Victoria body is slightly narrower in width than the (new tool) '32 Revell bodies we've become used to, and I'm using a heavily modified Revell tudor sedan interior for the Victoria. However, The Vicky looks pretty good in the mocked up stage, and I hope to get a few pictures shot once I'm back from vacation.
-
Funny you should bring that up. I have a '32 Victoria conversion (AMT body to Revell fenders/frame/running gear) pretty much done, with a phaeton body (AMT body to Revell fenders/frame/running gear) close behind and on the cusp of finished. Two weekends worth of cut and paste, but both look good. Pictures won't get put up here until I get back from Las Vegas (VACATION!). With a '32 roadster and three window coupe in progress, the Victoria and phaeton should keep me busy until the five window is released. Whenever that is!

That five window is lookin's like good stuff! I suspect the tires are from their Rat Rod series of kits, and the other new parts look good to me, particularly the hairpin radius rods. Looks like it might be close to a release.
-
Perfect response! What more can be said? I think the '57 150 is pretty nifty (I bought two), but I'm gonna like Revell's '32 five window a whole lot more!

New Revell '32 Ford 5-window coupe
Don Banes replied to Bernard Kron's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm not convinced the Revell's '32 three window or (fairly) recent '32 sedan have stock height roof areas. The three window looks to have a slight chop, and I think the sedan looks that way as well. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I have a fair amount of reference material for both body styles (in stock form), and I'd swear that they're both chopped (albeit slightly). Let the debate begin ! -

1925 T roadster pickup on model A chassis.
Don Banes replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks like another winner to me! Plus, it's a great idea, and a more than welcome departure from any "modern" hot rod. I'll be following this build also. Great job! -
1940's hotrod 1929 Ford Roadster ****UPDATED 7-18-09!****
Don Banes replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Dennis, your project is outstanding, and your attention to detail is spot on. Bernard, and a few other posters mentioned aftermarket, resin tires. I can vouch for those produced by Modelhaus and Replica's and Miniatures of Maryland. They're top notch in quality, and a little Tamiya "rubber" lacquer from their TS line of spray paints will do the trick for you . RMoM also offers a couple of sets of early, grooved rear tires, which seem to be what you're looking for. In any event, we're all watching your progress, and having a ball watching! -

Don Banes replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Revell is shipping the Black Widow kits to distribution now. They'll arrive at most distributors this week, so look for them in your LHS sometime next week. I'll be picking mine up from AAA Hobbies in Magnolia, NJ this weekend. -
