Dave Van replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

What non-auto model did you get today?
Dave Van replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Somehow I lost track of this thread and have not read it in a while. You guys have been posting some cool stuff!!! I bought all of those MDC kitbash kits when they came out. They are great boxes of parts!!! I also have both of the Krauss-Maffei AHM did, the SP and D&RGW paints. I like the new PECO versions but I am in O3r now and while I kept all my HO stuff...hard to pay the $$$$ for these new locos. There are times I think about how much HO layout I could fit in my 34 x24 layout room. Just enough for a decent O3r but huge for a HO......and the tons of HO stuff I still have?!?!?!?! Don't tempt me HO siren....... My O3r...Some of this is temp or testing for 'look'.........Thx -

Coming Soon from Atomic City's JoHan line of new kits
Dave Van replied to thatz4u's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I do not have a account on Facebook. Yet if you do an internet search for 'Atomic City ohio' a FB page comes up, accessible by anyone account or not, with ALL contact info. A phone call or email will get you answers to your questions. VERY EZ if you are on the net. Thx -
I love movie cars, seen Brazil a few times......I need to watch again. Very clean job, cool idea!

Cool idea and build. My buddy build a real mid engine Corvair back in the 70's. There was a bell housing that mounted to the front of the Corvair transaxle and allowed a SBC to mount in the back seat area. WILD CAR!

What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
Dave Van replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I have had more than my share of issues with USPS. And to add to the illogical nature of the USPS was a package I got Thursday. It was some paint from a hobby retailer in Atlanta. Package was picked up Wednesday afternoon about 4:30. Expected delivery was Monday. Thursday morning I get a message 'package delivered'. OVER NIGHT via this ground advantage service??? I'm happy but WHAT???? -

Coming Soon from Atomic City's JoHan line of new kits

I can speak to a few of these. 1. Moebius. They did not just up and start a model company. Mr Winspur and family had a very successful biz for MANY years before Moeibus came to life. Lots of capital on hand and experience with manufacturing, dist and retailing. That' what Mr Winspur told me when I worked for him. BTW Mr Winspur and family are back in the kit biz now. 2. Salvinos. Again, very much the same thing. Years in the hobby biz, capital behind them and lots of experience in manufacturing, dist and retail. Add a connection to a company that does injection molding...says it all. I have NO first hand info on the other model companies. I bet none of them started 100% from scratch with zero capital backing them. I'll not pretend I do know how they got into the kit biz. Stay calm, don't assume and se what happens. If you do not like what the new JoHan does.....don't buy. -
Coming Soon from Atomic City's JoHan line of new kits
Dave Van replied to thatz4u's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It's called baby steps. You can not in this day and age jump in and start cutting molds. Full disclosure I have know Jack, one of the new owners of JoHan, 40 years. All 3 involved are good guys. I visited them recently and spent 2 days. They have a lot of ideas and things in the works. I must leave it to them to disclose when the time comes. It will take a while....but in the end a benefit to the hobby.....I am sure of this. Just because they do not have 30 injection kits in their catalog yet does not mean they are calling themselves something they are not. It's called start up. Thx -
The link is not working. That said there are folks that will create artwork for any decal you want. $$$ is the only factor. Printing is another factor, many artist do not have the ability to print decals. Indycals does a great job custom printing FROM ARTWORK that is complete. Q is are you willing to pay for art and printing?? thx

I scub after brake fluid with Dawn soap and got most of it. Try that.

Two things to add. I have alets set up on my checking and CC accounts to text me for a number of different trans. Look and see if you can do same. One of my CC sent me a message that the rate was going to 35%!! This was illegal just a few years ago but those in DC got paid to make it legal. I have a zero balance so no big deal but at 35% you could be in a place you can never pay it off. Just FYI on the GREED that has been legalized by our employees in DC.

I spent last Friday and Saturday with the guys at Atomic City JoHan. I have known Jack for 40 years now!!! I saw the convertible version and it was better than injection plastic. Clean with a finish surface not even Modelhaus had and I thought theirs was perfect! They said they were going to have a new version soon......and it's more than just a body added to this kit. -
I have a NASCAR Matador in process (for a while). I used two AMT 1990 NASCAR Thunderbird chaassis to make a much better chassis for the Matador. Good luck! My 1/1

Question on AMX funnycar
Dave Van replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Alan is correct. The AMX funny car kit is one of many JoHan kits AMT marketed. While I know of no exact repop of the AMX F/C chassis I'd start with a recent AMT Vega funny chassis. It will get yyou in the ballpark. Be a cool project. thx -
I know of that car. I have had the same idea. While maybe not 100% accurate it would be much easier to find the JoHan Rebel kit. Many more out there on the market and other than the tail light and side window shape the same body. Good luck either way.
-
May I ask why a AMC 69 Ambassador??? That is a VERY rae and odd kit......just wondering!
-
Nice clean work! I own a AMC 74 Matador coupe so that scheme is close to home! Also met Ran a number of times....good guy.
-
I've looked into it and did some work for years. My plan was to use the AMT/JoHan NASCAR kit chassis. It's frame is stock and I was adding the stampings to the flat floorpan. Then when Revell did the S&H Torino, but as stated WB is off and it does not fit under JoHan body. The JoHan promo has a nice stock chassis but it is a single piece with everything molded in. Here is my MPC body, JoHan promo chassis and interior. Otaki wheels. Thx
