Beep! beep! Nice Road Runner! Looks mean! I was a teenager when those cars came out. I loved them. A guy in my home town had a green one that was destroyed in about 1981 in a barn fire set by an arsonist! The car was literally melted! What a shame, and they never caught the guy! Sam

I wonder if the glass roof insert from the AMT 56 Ford Crown Vic would fit in the opening in that roof? It might look cool. Just a thought. Sam

I was thinking the same things as you when I posted this, Bradley. I was taken back to the inspiration for this diorama; the Bellefonte Cruise Car Show held in Bellefonte, PA, about ten miles from where I live. It's in mid-June, and it's always hot, and you can smell the food from the vendors' stands, and hear oldies music playing in front of the courthouse. Bellefonte is a 200+ year old town filled with gorgeous Victorian architecture, and makes a perfect backdrop for the show and cruise. I patterned my building facades after some of the buildings there. These shows are the soul of America, and are a car lover's heaven! Sam

Hi, all, I built this car show diorama last summer. It was mentioned in some of my posts, but I never posted photos of it till now. It measures 50" x 12", and replaces a shelf in a hutch in our living room. The photos were taken outside to look more realistic. It represents part of a block of storefronts where a car show is going on in mid summer. I use it to display my models, swapping out old ones as new ones are completed. This is downtown before the cars showed up. Here's the registration canopy, made of paper, plywood, and music wire. Building fronts are mostly plywood and balsa. Here are some of the cars. The VW bus dragster model is 40+ years old and has a hemi in the back seat and hand painted "Poison Ivy". Grocery store has brick paper over plywood with awning made of painted strips of masking tape on a music wire frame. This shot puts it in perspective. It was on a table on the deck of our house. The whole diorama was built with scraps of materials I had laying around. I bought the G scale (more or less 1/24) figures from ebay. I spent about a month making it, and was pleased how it came out. I took a second look at that bicycle on the back. It's a gem of detailing in itself! Those look like wire spokes in the wheels, and I see valve stems. Notice the friction drive generator with wires running to the headlight, springs under the seat, adjusting bolt for the seat post, etc. Very nice work!!

Wow! Thanks, guys. I didn't expect so much response to a box stock build! Thanks for all the compliments. Someone mentioned the grille bar detail. The red, white & blue Chevy logo in the middle is the kit decal. My hands are not that steady to paint it! I used a black acrylic wash on the grille, and to highlight the door and trunk lid lines. It helps them look more realistic, I think. BTW, the kit has a bunch of extra parts in it that are not referenced in the instructions: an extra radiator support, radiator hoses, a battery, a brake or clutch pedal, and exhaust headers. I suppose from the tooling for a different kit (Bel-Air maybe?). I wish they would have used that plastic for a back seat and a 6 cyl. engine, but retooling is big time expensive! Sam

Hey, guys, I just finished this Revell 57 Chevy 150 sedan. It's all stock, although I did add a back seat from one of my old parts boxes. Paint is Krylon with Testors clear over it. The chrome trim is silver paint. I've never tried BMF. The engine is not detailed, other than being painted. The car will be used in a diorama I have planned, where it will be paired with a beat up utility trailer, trying to look like a car a farmer would have owned in the mid-1950's. This is a great kit! Everything fit easily - a straightforward and enjoyable build. Good for an old man like me! I hope you guys like it.
