Lets See Your Replicas of Yours/Your Families Cars
AzTom replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
That so cool Dan. Actually that's how I got the 1/18 pictured above. A friend that came to our store regularly got with my wife Barb to get old photos and made the car for my birthday one year. That was done using the old Ertl car. My next one will be from the new Ertl tooling with the realistic hood and door hinges. I also will go with the 10in Ansens on the rear and narrows on the front. -
Lets See Your Replicas of Yours/Your Families Cars
AzTom replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
I have several kits and diecast saved to build replicas of my once owed real cars. Here's two of them finished. Custom 1/18 diecast, as factory stock. I'm working on one with the mags. -
A few of my survivors from the late 60's

I remember that one! Good to see you here Dave.

Nice. I have always liked A/C Cobra as well. You need to get at least one of the Exoto 1/18 Cars.

Nice, I forgot about these. I have the red one and another one but can't remember what color it is. They should look great pulling the Galaxy trailers painted up to match.

Building the Revell 1950 Oldsmobile - We're Finished! 10/30/12

That is looking great. I too have been waiting for this one. Would a 1950 Stock car have full exhaust? AzTom -
That is what I use as well. Most of mine are diecast and it works Great! I have a photo of the cement on my 55 Chevy wagon build in the diecast section.

Thanks for the kind words. I went with the green to keep the plain Jane look. Steve, Your friends cars looks great. AzTom The 55 my brother once had.

My Downdraft Paint Booth Finished
AzTom replied to Big Daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Doing this did you remove the pegboard from covering the filter? I didn't do the math but it seems a 273 CFM fan would be restricted with the few 1/4 holes that the pegboard has. Thank you for choosing the correct fan. I like the fluorescent 5000k to 6500k lighting the best, shows true color and detail better. -
Making the rear side windows using Evergreen clear .10 sheets. I glued the front section of glass and after it dried I cut to length and rolled the rear section in under the rear door edge lip. The best glue for clear plastic to diecast that I found is GS Hypo-Tube Cement, for setting watch crystals. AzTom

That is awesome. I have a 5yo Grandson getting in to the models. I love to see the excitement and satisfaction he gets when he gets another part on it. AzTom -
Revell / Monogram '32 ford kits
AzTom replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I voted 5 window although I bought one, I have not built it yet. I have always like the 5w and had a real one in the early 70's. -
HELLO! They are not charging you twice. You are paying ebay for handling your sale and Paypal to process your payment. If you think Ebay is too much, check out what a local auction company charges with very little exposure. Call a credit card company and find out what it cost to accept credit cards. You will soon realize what a bargain both are.

Looking great! AzTom

I thought the same thing, they look like the satin finish. It's not a "Rumor". The first run of these had a "Satin" chrome finish and the boxes were not Cellophane wrapped. Stevens International told me the factory took it upon themselves to change to the satin finish thinking they were making an improvement. Stevens sent new shiny chrome trees out about a month after the release to replace the satin chrome. The exhaust on the satin tree looks WAY better than on the chrome tree. Well, that only took three reloads to get posted I had to eliminate the Quote then add it manually.

Thanks! A coat of green paint. Under the hood. Just some battery cables, a radiator hose and some paint detail. Well, it took a few reloads but here is my update.

Awesome, Great color.

Ok, Thanks guys. Here I have the panels cut out and hand filed to the window edges. Time for paint removal. I like using the Mar-Hyde Tal-Strip II Aircraft Coating Remover. Note: The Klean-Strip Aircarft paint remover is not very good. The body in primer with the rear side window post added. I also had to add a strip of styrene to the top of the interior side panels and mold to the body to fill a gap. Interior painted and detailed. I also added plug wires to the engine. Thanks for looking, Tom

That could be the 1/18 from Highway 61. I sure wish they would include the scale and who makes them. PLEASE! AzTom

I have been packing for a few months now, hoping to move in November. The good part is my new model shop will be in full time air conditioned space. So .. I'm going to post a model from the past. This is a 1/18 Johnny Lightning diecast done by Ertl several years ago. It has opening hood and rear gate but not the doors. Door handles are molded on but does have some nice detail over-all. If you're going to get serious about cutting up diecast, you need this RotoZip. Stay tuned! AzTom
