Where are all the Canucks from on here?
styromaniac replied to Rider's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I just spent 10 days hiking and camping up in Banf and Jasper....stunning country up there. Hello to all up north. Waiting for some of that cool Canadian air down here in hot and humid Virginia. -
"Surf Hearse". Not that far fetched. Found an interesting article online once about how the 60s surfers would buy up used hearses from huge lots and live in them at the beach. Apparently the funeral trades in California were always upgrading their fleets with newer fancier models and a decent relatively low mileage hearse could be had for minimal bucks...plenty of room for boards, blankets, bunnies.

Best 60s Ford Mustang Kit?
styromaniac replied to Harpo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Then again...maybe Bill just isn't into Mustangs that much. -
I'm not mechanically inclined so I can't speak to the simplicity of maintenance, but it does seem that mile for mile most of todays cars are pretty reliable. What bugs me the most? They all look the same to me! They all seem to look like the result of the same wind tunnel test for aerodynamic efficiency....no individual style whatsoever. And most cars these days seem to have made up names that don't relate to anything ...they just sound exotic...or foreign. There used to be Tempests, Mustangs, Stingrays, Barracudas, Wildcats, Cougars....now we have...Elantras? Or letters and numbers.

Best 60s Ford Mustang Kit?
styromaniac replied to Harpo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder what our resident factory stock replica expert Bill "Mr Obsessive" Geary has to say about this topic? -
Nice looking. What did you use for the interior carpet texture?

Some really cool stuff by Dave Dickash
styromaniac replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I spoke to him only briefly when I met him at the Mid Atlantic NNL many years ago....think he had an Isetta model that he had turned into a dragster. Seemed like a real jovial character. -

Dave Dickash....wasnt he a member of L.I.A.R.S. modeling club on Long Island? He passed away in 2004. His motto went something like "anyone can collect old model car kits, it takes a real man to cut them up". Met him at a NNL in Towson Md many years ago...built some crazy stuff. R.I.P. -
From where I'm sittin looks like a super nice clean build. Agree about the wheels...the yellow on wide whites really makes it stand out.

Old Hobby Shop Photos
styromaniac replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At the height of the hot rod / car model craze of the early 60s it seemed you could find car model kits for sale everywhere...not just hobby shops but five and dimes, grocery stores. Stocking shelves with car kits was like printing money. I also recall vending machines that sold trading cards with pictures of famous show rods... -
I like the low slung look. Any more pics?

One of my all time favorite kits...in all its variations. And not as easy as it looks...a bit finicky.

Lovely concept....Nicely realized.

Cool color...what paint did you use? And those wide whites...where were the tires/wheels sourced? A really nice clean looking build!

I think Tim Sickle has some long standing issues with MCM so I don't think he would be putting together photos for them, but he might for that "other" magazine.

I'm pretty sure the photographer at the Mid Atlantic NNL in the OP was Tim Powers...not Tim Sickle.
