Awesome stuff right here. That boat in particular is amazing. Nice job.

Nice work Dennis. Ma's resin has two versions of drag radials available one M/T and another Hoosier both in varying sizes.
-
Marcos, thanks for this. I wasn't a believer until I tried this earlier in the year and it works like a charm.

I have never been billed in all the years I've ordered from him until my items ship. You wont order from Strada again. Good for you. Next ...

Testor's One Coat post mortem
shucky replied to MitchP's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Lots of good info here. I've had no issues either with the one coat stuff, spraying it in a similar fashion as Bill mentions above. I do not do "mist" coats with this stuff, its too thick for that. I also always use DC high build primer sanded with no more than 1000 grit. For the one coat stuff, I just go for it laying down nice medium wet coats to get good coverage. I literally wait a matter of minutes to re-coat, not 10 or 20. Maybe 2-3 minutes your good to go. No fish eyes, no runs, and no orange peel. I also like laying down dupli color clear in 5-6 coats followed by "one coat" wet look clear. I have had no issue laying one coat "wet look" clear over dupli color clear. It also rubs out to a glass like finish this way. -
Frank those look amazing. Sorry for our little disagreement months ago. Just couldn't resist mentioning how awesome these wheels look. Nice job.

Dan, I have no affiliation with Strada but I can say I am a satisfied customer of Kevin's (ie - not brain dead). I DO understand your frustration though, because I was put off originally also when I placed my first order years ago and did not know his stuff was mostly "out of stock." Once I learned how Strada does its thing I was really okay with it. Why? Because some of the items he carries would cost a fortune if I ordered direct and paid the shipping myself. By ordering through Kevin I didn't have to deal with a foreign order or huge shipping costs. Plus, he has special ordered me products that I gladly waited for just because of the cost savings to me. Keep in mind many of the companies he deals with are small operations themselves (just like our own resin casters, etc) and may not have stock of a particular item. So, like ordering from any small operation in this hobby its first come first serve. There are also shipping limitations from these companies also whereas Kevin will only get 1 shipment per month from said company. BECAUSE I know this from placing many previous orders over the last number of years with Strada I'm totally fine with the "waiting." It is just like waiting for a resin order (in my opinion). And emailing and phoning will not make the process any faster. I just know Kevin has NEVER hosed me and also ALWAYS come through every time. You dont want to order from him thats up to you. Nobody is forcing you to do so, but just know Kevin has many satisfied customers.

Dan, here is the scoop as I know it ... Kevin has a lot of products on his website that are not always in stock or that are "made to order." Also, most of what he has is from overseas suppliers that offer unique low volume items. If you order from him you need to consider this and keep that in mind. When I order from him I go in knowing I may not see my items for months but Kevin ALWAYS comes through. If you are in a hurry for something check with him first to see if he has stock, otherwise shop elsewhere. I'm okay waiting on my stuff so I normally will just place an order and when it comes it comes. But as I said, I've ordered MANY times from Kevin over the years and have always been extremely happy. The "unhappy" posts about him on the other forum are mainly from people who simply do not understand that many of his items are simply not in stock and expect their stuff to be shipped within a couple of days of ordering.

Jeff, I dont think we've every met although I attended every Boulder Hill contest. I know the Al's Hobby Shop crew / family was behind the show along with local sponsors but thats all I knew. Those shows were top shelf to say the least. Very well run and organized. Never had a problem there and it was always the highlight of the year for me to attend. I remember JD's Corvette build and his beautiful Cobra build as well. Those were good times.

Hi Jeff, welcome! I remember JD, he's an awesome guy. Super nice and super talented. In the 90's I won the "JD Booth" award with my Prostreet El Camino at a Boulder Hill contest. Those were the good old days lol. I have seen him at the DuPage show myself. My bro lives in Aurora / Naperville area as well.

I need some resin casting help
shucky replied to Harry P.'s topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Harry would you mind posting the dimensions of that tire? -
Sorry to say though that if you order from Al at Ma's your in for a looooooooong wait. His stuff is top shelf but his turn around time is extremely long. My last order was 1 year wait and my current order probably isn't going to be any different. Just saying in case your in a hurry.

Those are clearly turbos that I cast in resin, may I ask where you got them from?

Hi Tommy, just replied to your PM. -
I do not think anyone here uses rubber that costs $100.00 a pound. Just sayin'. And the Modelhaus stuff is top shelf.
-
That is pretty awesome! Nice job.

Erik, your doing a spectacular job on this. Great reference photos in here also. Keep up the great work.

Need Advice From Resin Casters Here
shucky replied to raildogg's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
So you gave up because you couldn't get a free can of mold release? Last time I ordered they were $7.30 per can I believe and 1 can lasts a looooong time. You can either slop that mixture on your master and rubber and anticipate the clean up after or order a quality mold release spray. Up to you, good luck. -

Need Advice From Resin Casters Here
shucky replied to raildogg's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Richard, you said in your original post that you used Alumilite so why contact Smooth On? Regardless, I'm sure it has to do with your choice of mold release. Sure ... other release agents and concoctions may work, but why bother with the mess and clean up? Call Price Driscoll and order Ultra 4 paintable polyester parfilm. IMO its the Cadillac of mold release. You may still be able to get a free 12 oz can if you request it, just call and ask. Never ever have had an issue with it. Zero clean up, zero mess, and its paintable straight away (no soaking or washing). Its a dry film and a little spray goes a long way. Your wasting your time and energy using methods from 30 years ago. Quick spray ... and done.
