  1. Well I dont see myself finishing anything else before the new year so this is my Class of 07.............. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v19/amaz...ss%20of%202007/ thanks for looking and merry Christmas everyone! Raisin
  2. Just finished this one for a lady at work. She is giving it to her husband as a Christmas gift, its a replica of his 1/1 scale street rod "The Buttercup Special". Shes a 29 Model A with a 32 chassis and grill. Made from an AMT 29 roadster kit with an R & R sedan body. I had to add the ribs on the roof, scratchbuild the visor, and rear tailight panel, The interior is all flocked. My decal guy didnt finish them in time so I had to hand paint the lettering and flames (not my strongest suit), but I guess it didnt turn out to bad. I hope he likes it, Raisin
  3. Thank you Steve, The biggest thing about painting resin is you must apply a good primer ( I do that with plastic kits too ) because paint wont stick to resin well. Some resins have mold release agent residue which can be removed by soaking in westlys bleech white before shooting the primer. I polish my paint with 3m imperial hand glaze, there are several products out there that you can use though. Raisin
  4. Thanks Raul, Like with most kits I cant seem to leave it just as it comes. I added the accel coil from SMBC, scratchbuilt the radiator shroud. front motor mounting plate, breathers on the valve covers, and added some bits to the interior. Also used headlights from a Revell 32 Ford kit.
  5. Went together pretty well. A few minor issues with the chassis, but certainly no worse than many plastic kits I have built. I suppose the best comment I can make about it is I liked the kit enough that I am building another one! Heres a few more pics. Raisin
  6. There is hope for all of us mortals that arent up to Mr Gearys skills! Hendrix offers several body styles of the 55 Ford, and they really arent bad at all. I did these two awhile back and in additionjh I have a 55 customline, and a Fairlane 2 dr sedan that I havent started on yet. I believe he also offers a station wagon. I dont remember seeing a 2 door hardtop like Bill is doing though. Never saw an R&R before, but from the pic it looks like it has a 56 roof, not a 55. By the way ..........Fantastic work Mr Obsessive! Raisin
  7. I have customized many diecast cars and found that nail polish remover works great for removing the tampo graphics. I dont think it would effect the plastic on a slot car body, but I would try it on a scrap piece first just to be sure, Raisin
  8. Nice work, especially on the motor. I havent built a funny car yet but I do have a couple of the polar lights kits in my stash.
  9. Thats so cool looking. I really miss the altereds Raisin
  10. This car was based in Indianapolis and used Gapp & Roush power. Its built using an SMBC resin kit with Tamiya paint. Thanks for looking, Raisin
  11. Aparently just as in all aspects of life different IPMS chapters have different feelings on the subject. In this area car modelers are for the most part welcome to compete and I feel given a fair shake. In 3 of the last 8 IPMS shows I have attended a car ( well, actually 2 cars and a motorcycle ) has won the Best In Show award. Sorry to hear of your negative experiences. Raisin
  12. I must respectfully disagree with some of the comments in this thread. I have attended IPMS shows in the Mi, Oh, and Ont. area for a few years now and have always felt welcome. Sure there is some light hearted ribbing (one military modeler refered to the model cars as "targets") but its all in fun. just as when i threaten to build a plane with a blown Hemi in it! In some of the shows the cars have actually outnumbered the Military stuff. I can appreciate the military builds and am awed by some of the details, however more than one plane or tank builder has said the same thing to me about the cars. Im sure there are some IPMS guys who dont like cars and consider them toys, but are we any different when we talk about the "rivet counters"? I will also say that I think the most fair judging I have seen was at IPMS shows. A lot of times at a "Car Show" the subject matter plays into the results ( for example a hot looking road runner might be favored over a more mundane but better built Rambler. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the traditinal Car Shows as much ( if not more ) than anyone. but I dont limit myself to only these events. Raisin
  13. Got the chassis pretty much done now, I used a different radiator than the kit suppied one and made a couple of alignment pins to help secure the rear axle assembly, but other than that its pretty much as it comes. On the body, the only real mods so far are drilling out the headlight area to accept the Revell 32 Ford lenses I will be using.
  14. I can understand if you dont want to use a Boss 429 for your Comet, but I cant understand you saying you want a more realistic engine. That JoHan 429 is the nicest kit engine I have ever built! Its beautifully detailed and quite accurate. Not just me saying that either, Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland has gone so far as to offer a resinj cast version for sale! That being said, you might want to consider checking out the 351 Cleveland pro stock motor offered by scalemodelingbychris.com . It has dual quads and a high rise manifold that would go great in your comet. Raisin P.S. If your not going to use that JoHan motor what do you want for it?

    Buick GSX

Just finished up this one for someone else. Its a pretty cool looking car and a nice Monogram kit, but I think I would have prefered it as a factory stock without those quads sticking through the hood! Raisin
  16. I dont have a firefighter kit handy for pics, but the body is not the same, The hood is modified so that it extends all the way to the windshield, the wheel openings have been modified and the body widened. I just primed the body and should have some pics up shortly. Raisin
  17. Been working on one of the new SMBC Mustang II pro stock kits lately. This is an all new complete kit, no donor needed. The engine is a 351 Cleveland Ford and went to together with no problems at all. really not much different than a plastic kit. Pretty much the same for the interior, however I did file about a 1/16" off the top rear of the tub for a better fit into the body. The chassis did require a bit of trimming and filing for a good fit but certainly not bad at all for any resin kit. I have done a few plastic kits that needed as much! Next up..........the tires and rims, then the body! Raisin
  18. It looks like a model to me. So I am going to say REAL, and remember I never made a mistake in my life........once I thought I did but I was wrong! Raisin
  19. Not trying to be diplomatic or anything here..........but for my engines I like to use the Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland pre drilled disributor cap on an Arrowhead (or similar) alluminum base. Raisin
  20. Some of you may have seen this one as I had posted it before on another forum, but for those of you that havent.......... This was my favorite pro stocker back in the day, as kids we used to sneak into Detroit Dragway on match race nights and watch the pro stockers run, Seems Nicholsons Maverick always won! When I saw that Slixx offered decals I just had to do one. I bit the bullet and paid big bucks ($50.....ouch!) on ebay for a JoHan Maverick kit Added the engine bay from a Monogram Mustang, and Wrinkle slicks from SMBC. The paint is plasticote chevy orange ("chevy" orange?...blasphamy!) and decals are slixx. Thyanks for looking, Raisin
  21. Talk about a pent up demand!.......I have always thought that the first resin caster to come out with a fairmont wont be able to make enough of them. Not just for the obvious pro stocks, but some of the coolest pro street cars I ever saw were Fairmonts......a 460 fits right in! I know I would want a few examples, Raisin
  22. Thats cool............I just love those old drag cars!
  23. Thank you..........the rims did come plated, but I believe he offers them unplated also. Raisin
  24. Now that is cool!
  25. I did this one about a year ago, but with impending release of Revells new 32 sedan kit I thought it worth another look. Shes a Revell chassis with a Perrys Resin body chopped 1/8". The motor is a Boss 302 from AMT's 69 Cougar kit, and the paint is duplicolor cayene red over orange mist. Thanks for looking, Raisin
