1990 lx mustang street car finished! 8/1/14
tubbs replied to Dragfreak's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
great job Jason. your build is really awesome. i see nothing there to say your inspiration is low.... keep plugging along. -
well guys, looks like i stirred up some rousing conversation. nice to see the participation and the great ideas, i really learned some stuff about the Ford motors. Scale Dale was kind enough to offer up a great motor for my project, so the search is over. thanks everyone, Tubbs

ON THE HOBBY LOBBY CLEARANCE KITS. THE HOBBY LOBBY BY ME KEEPS THEM ON THE SHELF AND THROWS A YELLOW STICKER ON THEM. THEY DO NOT PUT THEM IN A "CLEARANCE" SECTION OR A SPECIAL PART OF THE STORE. JUST AN FYI sorry for the caps, but I was not going to retype that.

Hey Paul, thanks for the compliments. just trying to help out. thanks for being so receptive to my suggestions' coach a few sport and I always tell them, I can only suggest. you guys are doing the work. same here, and like people before me, you are taking one crappy kit and making it into a real eye catcher!!! using your ideas are 1 thing, executing them to the level you have is another story...... watching this till the end.
-
hey Paul, great job all round. nice attention to detail. I like how you make each component a build all itself. the grille came out great. I go to a craft store and get the little bug eyes that you see on stuffed animals and such, cut the backing off and you are left with a dome shape, I use that as the backing for the head light and use parts box lenses (as you did) and you get a much more realistic headlight. again, great job. I stole.... er took.... am using a lot of your ideas on some of my builds if you don't mind.

that would be a wonderful thing, James. I, for one, would appreciate it. -

tubbs replied to slammedi'am's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
you know, I was in such a hurry to look at this, I never made it back here to say "thanks" for finding that and posting it for all. not sure what I am going to try it on, but I will give it the ol college try.... -
you know I really hate all of you......... joking, but I do. .... not really..... see, I asked a very simple question, in return, I get too many good responses and now instead of one build with a simple problem, I have multiple build ideas in my head an am going to need more thunderbolts!!! not having a ton of modeling time and way too many projects I think I have to stick to my original idea and make a stump pulling street machine. so Bill, even though your idea is a great one, I will file it for later and continue on my quest............. although..................... how would that motor look in an EXP??
-
thank you google.... and thank you JC for your input. I really like the Ford Cosworth DFV, but I have 2 questions. it seems like it is a rear engine car with a transaxle, would there be a problem hooking up a bell housing and a 4 speed to it? and to me, it seems like this would have a "road race" feel to it more than a "muscle" feel? do you understand where I am going? it may be better off in a G-machine or pro touring car rather than a stop light to stop light car.... how do you think that Ford Cosworth DFV would look in a pro touring 66 fairlane? I am in the process of putting the motor from a Shelby series 1 in that?

Best way to paint vinyl seats?
tubbs replied to clovis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I usually do this, spray your seats with a flat paint like the others. let it set for a day or 2. flats usually dry quickly, but I have had my best results in letting it sit for a while. then just use your finger and rub the seat. the high points will get a little sheen going from the oils that are always present in your skin and the low points will stay a little flat or darker and give your seat/door panel a little accent. try it, try all of them, you will find one that works well for you. have a great day, Tubbs -
HA-HA, gotcha guys, yea, I knew it all along, yea, that's right, i'm a jokester. yea that's the ticket, a jokester....., them cosworth-ford motors, jeez, I got you guys good....... this time I am not playing, i'm gonna google the Escort or Sierra Cossie before I stick another Vega in my mouth. thanks for steering me right fellas, and not walking thru the door since I left it wide open.... have a great day, Tubbs

thanks for all your input and posts guys, got more responses than I thought. what a great forum.

AHHH Scott, your talking to a mopar guy here, if I am talking your language, obviously the "baddest ford motor comes in any dodge or Plymouth model kit and it called a "HEMI"..........hehehe.......
-
thanks Jim, you know, I think I had one of these kits and traded it? murphy's law! happens every time. I will do some research on this one, I like to know a little about what I am building. I will mark this one down for sure. thanks Dale, PM sent.

thanks Bill, I figures you be right in the money with my question. lots of info in your post, I love that Boss 302, but I think I want more motor showing that covers, if you know what I mean. that second motor is really sweet, I have a phantom Vickie kit somewhere in my stash, but if I can find that second motor, that would be the one. that CCR (doesn't that stand for Creedence Clearwater Revival? sorry, bad joke), anyways, that is one wild car. not much inro those type of supercars, so I googled it, man, some wild stuff came out. I am in the process of putting a Ferrari motor in an olds. Toronado.
-
thanks Rob, this is more in line with what I am looking for. I figured we would be hitting the Mustang gamut, but there are so many of them, I can't keep them straight.
-
where in the world would you get one of those. I remember them putting those motors in Vegas. cool thought. I will consider it.
-
never used a Gibson motor. have a hard time paying for a motor that costs more than a kit. it is a killer motor, not very street worthy though. when I build a thunderbolt pro mod, I will give it a thought. hey, when I make it back to a NCAM meeting there in Garfield, I will be sure to say "HI"
-
agreed Cato, but I have already put a blown shotgun in a 60 starliner, and the cammer motors I have those in a 66 fairlane, a 32 hiboy and a 53 F100. really looking for more modern motor. those motors are killer, that is for sure..... although every cammer motor I have goes together poorly, except johans.... best ever!
-
ok, sitting here mulling over more projects to start, yea, i'll finish something sometime..... and I would like to know what current kit out there has the baddest modern ford motor in it? I figure its going to come out of a mustang of some sort, maybe a lightning truck? what do you guys think? should be a kit that is readily available (in other words, inexpensive or if anyone has a motor or kit to trade....) and nice chassis parts would be a plus. this is something I am really not ready to start, just throwing a line out there and we will see where it leads. who knows, maybe straight to the bench like everything else I get. it will be going in a thunderbolt, if it matters. thanks in advance, Tubbs

well, I for one am not a fan of window tint (just ask my son), but it does look good with that color, do what you think works. like the new wheels (from the nova kit, right?). it coming together well, you should be wrapping this one up since your on summer vacation!! looking forward to more progress.... -

just a beautiful build. impressed me. can't believe how cleanly built it is. -
I was wondering about that. sometimes models will take you further than you had planned. turned out neat Rob, very clean.
-
That's a beautiful thing right there, Ron. glue bomb or not, would love to find one of those.
