tubbs replied to Jmaracing's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
nice job Joe. it's cool when that wheelbase on that chassis hits the body dead on. good choice of subject matter too. don't see too many early firebirds done this way. I am sure you will have lots of followers on this one. I know I am one. -

JC, first, anything outside the written rules is cheating. it's whats "exceptable". obliterating the back of the batter's box, there is holding on every play in fotball, sliding at the second baseman instead of the bag on a double play, a pitcher throwing the ball in the dirt to get it scuffed. there are milions of dollars at stake, anything athletes can get away with, they will do. some are very good at it (Gaylord Perry for one). i would never start the cheating, but if it's not being inforced, is it cheating?
-
Great job Ron. glad you took the time to fix the front. well worth it.

oh, hold on. i have never "justified" this. everyone in every sport will try to get a competitive advantage whether you like it or not, it's there. in everything, sports, business, government, don't matter. here, lets break it down to something else. lets say I get somebody to put a great paint job on a kit, get another to build a completely wired motor and someone else to put together a beautiful interior and put the whole thing together, then I enter it in a model contest. it wins 10 awards. cheating, competitive advantage? I didn't do a darn thing but put my name on it and put it on the table. it happens in everything, you will probably never see a completely even anything. somebody will have some sort of an advantage, or cheating, it's up to you to figure out which way you want to play the game. anyone see the Cavs/Bulls game last night, boy THAT game was played on the up and up!!
-
whatever age or level you start telling them that your not here "just for the fun of it", man I hate that!! heard this in the radio this morning, " your not teaching them to cheat, your teaching them to take advantage of weaknesses within the rules" and believe me, there are 9 and 10 year olds that if they know the game that they are playing well, you don't have to teach them much, they know. example, just last night on my son's (who is 13) baseball team, the batter's box gets obliterated in the first inning, the other team was up in the box and clearly stepping out of the box when they hit, that is an out, we questioned the ump and he stated he is the only ump and he is not watching. so when they put in a slower pitcher, we told our kids to do the same. cheating? I don't know, you tell me. back in my day, as a catcher, I would spit or throw rocks on guys shoes when they had 2 strikes on them.
-
can "home field advantage" be cheating also? true. home field advantage means the most in baseball, you get the last chance to score, if you get more than the other guys, you win. speaking of baseball and home field advantage, I can remember the Imdians moving the fences in in the 90's when they had all the home run hitters. teams putting "extra water" down in the infield to slow Rickey Henderson down. tapering the ground either away or towards the foul line. the opponents bull pen mounds being lower than regulation, even architects designing the stadium so that the sun shines in on the opposing team. you can go on and on.... but "cheating" is and always has been part of the game.
-
"CHEATING" goes on in every sport and in every game. Jerry Rice confessed he sprayed his gloves with stickum, O-linemen sprayed themselves down with "PAM" cooking spray, corked bats, illegal hits, spitballs, nail files, hard fouls. it's all part of the game and it is cheating till you get caught... or is it? players will do anything to get an advantage over the next guy. cause if you don't, he certainly will. anyone who doesn't think cheating goes on in every game, should not be watching sports.

if you take away all of Bradys TD passes, New England still wins 24-7. this whole thing is really silly, but it takes the media hounds away from my Browns for a little while... till Manziel falls off the wagon.

very well put Tom. I would put you in the "hobbyist" category just from this statement... "I can spend a day in my model warehouse". to me, a collector ALWAYS knows the prices of every kit, usually by memory. that is the first time I EVER heard it called a WAREHOUSE". next time you go playing, can I come along. I only have a "model closet" "nor do I really keep track of what things are going for" and if you don't mind me saying I absolutely love this statement...
