  1. While I agree that some don't build right away, this kit was out in April '12, 1 1/2 years ago now. And it did attract a lot of interest here and on other boards. I'm specifically asking about the members here that indicated interest and ordered the kit. What became of that interest? I also understand your collection of 1/12 unbuilts (yet) but might caution you about stocking-up on aftermarket parts. Very often, the aftermarket parts are found to be redundant to kit parts and not worth the expense and 'fidget-factor' to install them. The KA detail parts are an example. Sure SMS makes beautiful stuff and it is largely useful-but expensive and some parts can be scratch built. In my own experience, I inspected my Trumpeter GT-40 and determined that; A. the Trump kit didn't warrant the expense (it's not Tamiya detail level), B. the KA parts were redundant and problematic C. I could improve kit parts or scratch all the detail I wanted myself. You may want to examine your kits before ordering, or view built kits with the detail up parts first.
  2. After much pre-delivery anticipation, there have been virtually no WIP builds or finished presentations. I think I saw one, all-carbon finished build here (or elsewhere) but no description of how it builds or assembly problems. I have seen chat about warping, the plastic vs. ABS question, ill-fitting doors and of course the 'wrong wheels / tire' assertion-but not here and not very detailed. I know several members here have received them but have not seen follow-through reports. Is there disappointment with the kit when finally examined in person? Would some of you owners describe and display your builds-and maybe more importantly, why you have NOT built it or put it aside? That's a lot of money for a high-end kit that doesn't get displayed or talked about...
  3. What I've seen says that's the case-using Hornby's resources ($$) and distribution. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. I wonder if the screw-fastened areas have undersized holes like the Rolls and Alfas did. Breaking of screws was endemic unless holes were chased first or the heat method was employed. I hope that Hornby has improved that whole process.
  5. I understand. It's quite a contrast to your recent spate of 1800's buggies and stage coaches...
  6. Hopefully you and Harry will post entertaining WIP's for us to drool over...
  7. When are these arriving at the doors of those that have pre-ordered?
  8. The half-molded differential and shaft boots are a negative surprise in an $800 kit... Where else did they skimp?
  9. Very nice period build-Mirror Police not withstanding. Not a criticism but a question-did those Holleys come in the kit? I'm fairly sure 409's of the day used Carter AFB's.
  10. So have I which is why I asked. Craftsmanship can be an elusive thing-especially when the customer is uneducated about what he's buying.
  11. Bill, On a 1:1 chop, how are the under surfaces handled? Meaning the weld beads and inner skin of the roof panel(s). Are there methods to keep those from becoming a rusty mess?? And are they done all the time or neglected?
  12. That's a speaker grille on the package shelf. Dark cloth with chrome frame surround.
  13. Great build except for Harry's points. And I've seen countless rods and customs as a kid in that blue which was know then as 'Earl Scheib Blue'-brings back lots of memories.
  14. Excellent build on your impressive ship. I build my own cases and yours is very nice. Would you share how you built it and materials-glass or plexi?? It adds a 'museum' look to the ship.
  15. Cut them inside of a 1 gallon ziplock bag...
  16. Sounds counter-intuitive that a Ti skin should be covered with little iron balls. I'd never read that. Thanks for the temp correction-600F ain't 3000 but it's still plenty hot for yer bath water...
  17. I enjoy the discussion and new disclosures too Pete. I always thought the finish was raw titanium which fuel leaked through (at the seams) and heated to -what 3000F? Never thought the finish was lo-vis paint...
  18. Water, isopropyl or Windex.
  19. Very nice build but it's 1:72 scale-read box.
  20. If you can make a cabinet, you can make a glass case.
