How Much Do You Spend On Hobbies?
disabled modeler replied to Tom Geiger's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Exactly Vince...there are way too many other hobbies people have and most are much more expensive. Building models can be a very expensive hobby or not so expensive depending on ones building desires and where one shops for kits, etc. Me I have learned to be very creative to find and build models..its not easy but it can be done...with my lack of a budget it has to be -
Photoshopped models

I am with you...mine may not be great or 100% accurate but there mine...most of the time that is good enough for me. -
Photoshopped models
disabled modeler replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is the question...but if a builder wants their work to be seen the Photoshop work should only be for glare or camera issues with the photo to me...be proud of your work or what you can do with a kit. Comments from other builders help us all learn how to build better but should not be discouraging we all had to learn as we go. I know most things are Photoshop these days anyway but the builder adds the unique factor to a build in my opinion making it their own. How do you know?....Good question. -
Photoshopped models
disabled modeler replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To me if the computer corrected it....it might as well have built it but that is just me. Flaws or not the builder makes it his or her own and there for genuine. -
A speechless beauty.....

Garage sale finds...
disabled modeler replied to fat50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Id love to have a van/TA like yours!.... I love van kits too just wish they could reissue the early to mid 70s Dodge van kits....my favorites of the van kits. Another I have been looking for is the 75 Firebird or TA. Garage sales pay off every once in awhile but its not as easy as it once was out there...When I was a kid a neighbor had a washing machine box 1/2 full of old built models and parts for 10.oo....it left with me kept them all but shared with my brother...ah the good old days. -
Garage sale finds...
disabled modeler replied to fat50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exactly...If your not early to the sales you might as well not go for all the good stuff or deals are gone. Me I always go early...I find stuff here and there at them model related. Some of my finds... MPC 71 Cyclone Nascar kit sealed still like new...15.oo 2 Monogram 78 Trans Am kits............................10.oo for the pair. AMT Foxy Box Chevy van kit...............................2.oo unbuilt AMT 70s AMC Gremlin reissue kit sealed..............1.50 -

I build for Fun, I build for myself.
disabled modeler replied to Pete J.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Remember....the build only has to make the builder happy in the end. Sure we all want to build better than we do now always striving for excellence with our work. Me I build for myself and to pass all the time I have to kill and for the love of building...in the end nothing else matters really. I like to build adding all the detail I can to one and like to do the simple builds-curbsides,etc. there all fun to build and only limited by ones imagination or abilities to do so. I have numbness and dexterity problems in my hands on and off so I can relate to not feeling like a tougher build at times....make yourself happy first. -
I wonder if the person would think the designer of his car was one being the model builder designs one from clay to start with? Modelers have a larger more important affect on the world than many know. There not perverts but highly skilled people most very kind caring people...never judge a book by its cover..it might just become your best friend or help you get your car jump started when you need it. Bikers, modelers, train people bring big bucks into the economy...sure there is bad apples but there is in any field, age or gender. Me myself have had others look at me funny...I just ask them if they need any help...shuts them up and they walk away or they ask what is on their minds. Yeah the guy your talking about has issues of his own.
