  1. This thread could sure use some Booh-Bahs... .......J.Sauber.....AKA "The Saubinator"
  2. lol....that's funny stuff... I bet you'd get along with "Mr. Can Am Garage" real well.....Jackson has some play mates now..
  3. Hey no prob Rommel....Keep your head high and keep building...Seems you may have been a victim of BBS from what I've heard.....As long as you enjoyed the show and had good time, that's all that matters...Don't worry about the other stuff. You don't need awards to be validated in this hobby. Just keep on keepin on.........
  4. You sound kinda like an old MCM veteran who's been here for years and years and are set in your ways and fear change... You've only been here since Feb of this year....And your now worried all of a sudden about the future of MCM forums due to the possible addition of a non-automotive sub-forum? In any case, I just read your bio....It sort of goes against what your saying here on this thread don't you think?...A little bit of irony perhaps? Let's take a look......[These are your own words below.... They have not been edited in any way.] ******************************************************************************** 1) built anything I saw that I thought was cool...tanks, planes, cars, boats, whatever. If the box art grabbed me and mom said okay, I built it....poorly, but I built it. 2)Bought a Badger 150 about 18 years ago, did a decent job on the old "General" locomotive by MPC, I think. 3)I absolutely love this hobby...lifestyle....passion...whatever the verbage, THIS IS TOO COOL!! Will keep improving and trying new skills and techniques as I can. Love the modeling world commadre the internet has opened up to me recently, used to be such a solitary hobby, now find I can look at other models, read about other modelers, and have many resources that I did not know existed. ******************************************************************************* So, Mike, do you see why I now find it a little odd that you appear a bit closed minded and afraid of adding a sub-forum? Come on man, adding in a non-auto category is not going to DILUTE and ruin this place. In fact, I think you'll be surprised at what you can learn from hobbyists who build outside of the automotive world as well as those who build only within it. Alot of what I learned didn't come from automotive only builders. Personally, I think it would be nice to have another little section right here on this forum to see other types of work, instead of having to go jumping around 10 different other sites. I've been here since 2006, and have learned this forum has a diverse group of talented builders who do build other subjects and want to share them here....I think adding in another category is a good opportunity for them to display their work...To deny them that opportunity out of fear of "DILUTING" this place seems a bit selfish to me and a weak excuse not to grant them that opportunity.
  5. Some of the first events I went to were IPMS shows...I learned alot from talking shop with those armor and aircraft guys...Many of them have a much better understanding of the BASICS than alot of auto-only guys I have seen. They also have some great weathering techniques as well as detailing and scratch building... You won't find alot of overlooked manufacturing flaws like ejector pin marks, sink marks, mold lines, seams, etc etc...at the IPMS shows. Those guys have a strong understanding of how to handle the basics before getting fancy and trying to show off. I have seen countless cars with lots of extra goodies thrown all over them, but the basics were often completely ignored... Besides, adding in a sub-forum for non automotive stuff isn't going to take away and ruin this forum. That is a weak sauce argument. Adding another sub forum isn't going to hurt anything. There are many extra sub fourms that are already here. If you don't like it then don't view it. There's alot of sub forums here than I don't pay any attention to, but I'm not going around whining about it. Just because I don't view them, doesn't mean they aren't of value to someone else. Adding a category for non-auto stuff may also bring in some new talent and fresh members..That perk alone, makes it worth trying out a new sub forum for a while.
  6. I've seen some pretty nice non-automotive subjects showing up here on occasion, and alot of us do build stuff besides just cars & trucks. I know this was being discussed at one point, but I haven't seen anymore talk about it.. So, perhaps a fresh Poll could help the forum administration decide whether or not to add on a sub forum for those types of replicas and models. Just a thought.
  7. LOL....I liked Isaac Hayes's work.....Music, acting, voice overs, etc. I liked his no nonsense approach to things. I just saw the "Truck Turner" movie the other night..Classic stuff!!....LOL. Barry White was another great R&B soul guy.....Also Liked Luther Vandross....RIP to all of them..They left some great music behind though..
  8. I love seeing these old classics.....Most of my real oldies were either traded away or blown up with firecrackers, or lost during relocation moves. I wish I had some of my older stuff..It would be fun to look back on those projects...
  9. Another tough looking classic...You did a real nice job with that flip front end. I liked that old pro Nova kit.. I think I built 6 or 7 versions of that model. The seperate front fenders were a hassle, but overall, I had fun each time I went to work with that kit.
  10. That's a cool chevy, Jim... I remember back when I used thread for plug wires and other under hood details...I still do sometimes for things like seat piping, and interior accent trim and such.

    "Misfit"

    Cool gasser....Very nice!!
  12. Good post, and I agree... Scratch building generally takes more skill... Take a look at Gerald Wingrove's stuff for instance.....How many guys do you see building like that?....That's right...Not many at all. So yeah, that type of scratch building is a superior form of modeling.
  13. Huh? So your favorite build is essentially an unbuilt/unfinished kit?..... Generally speaking, if it's a "new project", then it isn't completed.
  14. I had one of mine hit the floor a few years ago..It was repairable, but alot of the sub-assemblies seperated, and had to be re-attached. I was surpirsed there wasn't more damage than there was. I cringed when I heard it contact the floor.
  15. Whenever I hear or see the term "kitbashed" I always picture some poor fella taking a baseball bat or a hammer and smashing the model bacause things go to together too well. "This model sucks!!.... I'm going to go and "kitbash" this thing with a good sized hammer, and a few foot-stomps!!"...
  16. Whattaya mean?.. I wasn't offended.... I guess I forgot to use enough emoticons... We're cool, we're cool....I hope..
  17. The term "scratch-bashed" works fine for me...I've used that term many times in the past. It simply implies the mixing and joining of an existing piece with that of another piece that has been fabbed from scratch. Is it a correct term to use? I dunno. Who cares. It works for me. I tend to model way outside the box, so I'm always coming with new and off beat ideas as well as terminology.
  18. Then there's the term "scratch-bashed"... This means that a "pre-existing" part has been PARTIALLY scratch built in order for the item to fit a particular application...Alot of folks tend to "stretch the facts" when it comes to this term and practice.
  19. Thanks for getting back to me Len, I appreciate it. You're doing a fine job here and the project is coming along beautifully. I'm certainly enjoying following along with the buildup and tutorial. One of things I wanted to point out was some of the seams and parting lines left on the exahaust system, shocks, rear axle housing etc had not been taken care of. With so much work and prep going into this one, I though it was a little odd that some of basics were overlooked. I did ponder that perhaps this project could have been a "test sample" sort of buildup to help show us what the kit presents and how things go together and assemble, rather than a serious contest model that would have been judged, and that overlooking those basics could have come back to haunt you during competition. Either way, I though I'd better ask first, before I went any further. In any case, I thought this was a good time to bring up those observations, so that they could have been corrected before the model was completed. Thanks for explaining the finished model's future. I was hesitant to bring this subject up, since so many times alot of folks read into things the wrong way and freak out when possible oversights and flaws are mentioned.. Keep up the great tutorial and updates coming...We're all learning alot here as you guide us through his kit and the assembly process....And yes, I'll certainly be picking a copy of this myself........Jeff
  20. Nice clean work man, Looking real good. It's ashame more folks don't pay this much attention to the basics as you do.
  21. Nice work so far, especially with the attention to cleaning a few extra things up, making some adjustments and tweeks, but I do have a question... Is this model being built strictly for the Forum tutorial process and general walk-through of the buildup? Or do you plan on displaying this model at contests and shows and such, with serious intent? Overall, I really like what I'm seeing here, but have noticed a few things I feel I should point out for a model that seems to be getting this extra attention and work done to it... I'll wait to hear your response to my first question, before I go any further... Regards, Jeff
  22. Many of us have substantial unbuilt kit collections, as well as big extra parts boxes and such, but I was wondering how many built/completed kits do you have? This may come as a surprise to some, but I actually have less than 10 finished projects in my entire collection right now. Reason being, is that I tend to sell off most of my work. How about you guys? Do you have big display cases/curio cabinets filled with endless numbers of builts, or are you like me and sell stuff off and have a relatively low builtup count?
  23. I agree... Lot's of folks still haven't seen a TKM resin body before, so seeing the WIP pics would be great. It would really be a good indication of just how much work went into this thing. Those things are ROUGH to say the least. Getting the finished model to look like this, is simply remarkable...
