Really nice build! It would be cool to have one of these in my stash as well, it's actually pretty neat looking car. You did it a justice, really nice and smooth paint and very nicely assembled. And restoring Glue Bombs is a lot of fun. I've restored many of them, too, the latest one was finished a couple of weeks ago and it was fun. Keep these builds coming, they look excellent every time. Oh and do you polish your paint jobs?

So is the 'rat rod' craze officially over?
W-409 replied to Mike_G's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well Said, Harry! That is the way I think, too. But I couldn't say it that well. Anyway that thread is great. I've been reading it through for a couple of months and I'm getting closer of page 100. It sure is a great thread that gives lots of inspiration and ideas of building an Old School Drag Car. -
Nice, Crazy and Unique build, as always ! I really like how you used parts from 2nd Generation Camaro on '57 Chevy. The whole build is full of nice little details that really stand out. I'd like to see one of these in person, but I'm afraid that won't happen very soon since it's a couple of thousand miles from here to there. Excellent work with the bodywork and paint. Everything looks smooth and nicely done. Congrats!

Very Nice, even if it's not a Jeff Gordon car ! I like the overall look, and the missing tire lettering didn't catch my eye too badly either. Did you have any fit issues with the kit? I mean that when I built mine years ago, there were massive fit issues with almost every roll cage part and chassis parts...All had to be modified somehow. But yours looks excellent.

Thanks, Julius! I like how the engine is turning out, too. Hopefully I don't mess up the rest. Today I went to the Paint Shop and bought some paint for the body. It's Maston spray can paint, those have always worked very well for me. Then I painted the chassis with it and I think the color looks pretty good and the body will be painted with the same color, except that the roof will be silver. I will clear coat the chassis as soon as possible and then I can put it together.

Thanks, Matt! Somehow I must have missed your comment, but better late than ever I guess... I have done some more work while my '61 Oldsmobile STW Mild Custom was drying. I sanded the frame, primered it and after a couple of days I painted it with Gloss Black. Also I removed texts from the floor and put some Bondo in there. After I sanded it smooth, I sprayed a coat of primer on there as well. Tomorrow I should go to the paint shop and pick the body color for this one. That'll be used in the chassis, too.

Very Nice! What did you use for weathering? That seat looks incredible, I have a couple of builds too that would need that kind of weathering, but I have never succeeded in that kind of weathering...

Thanks, Ray! I forgot to say that most of them are started, but there are unstarted kits, too. Many of those that are started, have engine blocks glued together and painted or something, and then they have stalled because of one reason or another. When I get the inspiration again, I do more progress, but I really don't have a problem called "What To Build Next?". Yesterday I just took the AMT '51 Chevy out (On bottom, the 1st picture) and put it in Mr Muscle to remove paint. It'll be built Factory Stock for a community build on Finnish Model Car Association Forum.

I just did a little clean up in my room. I had to store some of the unstarted/started kits into basement to get more room. I decided to take three pictures, too. Here are most of my kits, some are in different place, but this is almost everything I got. Though in some boxes, there is something completely different than what the boxart says...

Looking Good! Nice paint job on the body and sharp BMF work, too. This will be a fun build, there can't be enough Stockers. Lucky you, our Drag Racing Finals were a bit over two months ago. Now needs to wait for the next one, and it starts in May. We'll change the final gear ratio to 5:38 instead of that 5:13 that we had earlier. Hopefully it'd run a bit faster then...

Yep, sure! Just let me know what you'll be building, and I'll add you on the Entry List. Your build might be just the inspiration that I need to continue my '41 Plymouth.

This was easy, because I have the same car in my archives of pictures to be used on Auto ID Quiz on another forum. BTW: Is it possible to give a little hint for you, Harry, about one possible upcoming car? I might have one pretty good one....

TDR Innovations makes beautiful Two-Piece Turbos. They can be used in 1/16 or 1/25 scales, depending on what size turbocharger you choose. I bought mine while ago and they were excellent. Also Ted is really nice guy to deal with. See here: http://www.tedsmodelingmarketplace.com/turbo-chargers-all-sizes/ I highly recommend these parts.

This will be an interesting project to watch! I have a soft spot for X-Frame Chevrolets and '60 and '63 Impalas are my favorites. I have wanted to build this car for some time, too, so I can't wait to see more. So far everything that you've done looks excellent. I will be following this build very closely, and try to gather as much information as possibly for my possible future build. Meanwhile I try to get going with my Z11 Impala Super Stock.

Whoops... Sorry I missed that part of the text. This will be an interesting build for sure. Keep us posted.

So are you doing a replica of that particular car as it is in those pictures? Or are you building a car "That could have raced back in...."? If you're building a straight replica, the Lindberg '64 Dodge 330 kit's tires are a good choice. They have Good Year lettering on their sides, though. But if you want to build a car that could have raced in 1964, for example, you'll need tires from the Speed City Resins. They are 7" Cheater Slicks, the only tires that were legal in Super Stock back in the day. http://www.speedcityresin.com/

To me the weathering looks very good. It's not looking like it's oil and grease, but just that regular dust that comes when racing at Daytona Beach. Very nicely done build otherwise as well.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
W-409 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That engine looks like a piece of art already! Incredible work, Chris as always. Those gaskets are really a small thing, but I think they give a nice finishing touch for this one. Maybe I should try adding them, too, though in 1/25 scale they had to be very thin.... Well, anyway, great work! -
Beautiful Oldsmobile Custom! Your builds always impress me and this one is no exception. That paint looks really smooth and shiny and perfect job with BMF, too. The valve stems are a nice finishing touch.

I might be strange, since I have never destroyed any of my models... But my dad told me that when he was a kid, he had one ship model that he built, and on a summer cottage he put it on water and put some fire crackers in. The ship sunk in the water and when he lifted it up, there was a little hole in the bottom where the water went in. I can't remember what he did for it after that, though.

Air-Trax Mercury Marauder X-100
W-409 replied to Dave Toups's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Bob, send an E-Mail to raurata@yahoo.com. Last weekend, it was a Model Contest called Nordic Challenge here in Finland. Juha's Marauder was also there (The one I posted those pictures of) and there was the piece of paper next to every model with model's name and a short description. On Juha's Marauder, there read that it's built from AMT '69 Galaxie. That must have required lots of cutting and slicing! -
I agree with everyone else. A Great looking Fairlane with beautiful color scheme. Green and white fit perfectly together, especially in body like this. Sharp details all around, too.
-
This turned out very nicely! Everything looks spot on, all that detail work and scratchbuilding pays off, excellent Cuda! Also the paint looks great. Very nice!
-
How many of you participate in contests ?
W-409 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I try to participate in as many shows as possible. Though I don't think them as Contests, for me they are more Shows. The best thing is to see other new builds, meet fellow modelers and talk with them. Also shows are a great place to get tips and tricks, and usually there is a great Swap Area, too. Then if I win anything that's just a bonus. -
I got these as a gift from a very good friend of mine. THANKS!!! So the GTO is unbuilt, actually it's Sealed Inside and that will be built either Factory Stock or a mild Street Machine. '62 Bel Air is nicely built, as is the Chevelle and El Camino: Also there was the Flintstones '31 Ford Chop Top Resin body... And then I bought this:
