So are you doing a replica of that particular car as it is in those pictures? Or are you building a car "That could have raced back in...."? If you're building a straight replica, the Lindberg '64 Dodge 330 kit's tires are a good choice. They have Good Year lettering on their sides, though. But if you want to build a car that could have raced in 1964, for example, you'll need tires from the Speed City Resins. They are 7" Cheater Slicks, the only tires that were legal in Super Stock back in the day. http://www.speedcityresin.com/

To me the weathering looks very good. It's not looking like it's oil and grease, but just that regular dust that comes when racing at Daytona Beach. Very nicely done build otherwise as well. -
1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018

That engine looks like a piece of art already! Incredible work, Chris as always. Those gaskets are really a small thing, but I think they give a nice finishing touch for this one. Maybe I should try adding them, too, though in 1/25 scale they had to be very thin.... Well, anyway, great work! -
Beautiful Oldsmobile Custom! Your builds always impress me and this one is no exception. That paint looks really smooth and shiny and perfect job with BMF, too. The valve stems are a nice finishing touch.

I might be strange, since I have never destroyed any of my models... But my dad told me that when he was a kid, he had one ship model that he built, and on a summer cottage he put it on water and put some fire crackers in. The ship sunk in the water and when he lifted it up, there was a little hole in the bottom where the water went in. I can't remember what he did for it after that, though.

Air-Trax Mercury Marauder X-100
W-409 replied to Dave Toups's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Bob, send an E-Mail to raurata@yahoo.com. Last weekend, it was a Model Contest called Nordic Challenge here in Finland. Juha's Marauder was also there (The one I posted those pictures of) and there was the piece of paper next to every model with model's name and a short description. On Juha's Marauder, there read that it's built from AMT '69 Galaxie. That must have required lots of cutting and slicing! -
I agree with everyone else. A Great looking Fairlane with beautiful color scheme. Green and white fit perfectly together, especially in body like this. Sharp details all around, too.
-
This turned out very nicely! Everything looks spot on, all that detail work and scratchbuilding pays off, excellent Cuda! Also the paint looks great. Very nice!

How many of you participate in contests ?
W-409 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I try to participate in as many shows as possible. Though I don't think them as Contests, for me they are more Shows. The best thing is to see other new builds, meet fellow modelers and talk with them. Also shows are a great place to get tips and tricks, and usually there is a great Swap Area, too. Then if I win anything that's just a bonus. -
I got these as a gift from a very good friend of mine. THANKS!!! So the GTO is unbuilt, actually it's Sealed Inside and that will be built either Factory Stock or a mild Street Machine. '62 Bel Air is nicely built, as is the Chevelle and El Camino: Also there was the Flintstones '31 Ford Chop Top Resin body... And then I bought this:

I spent hours doing different kinds of Google-searches, and came up with nothing for this one. But at least I can say that it's Ugly.

The carburetors on the Revell's '50 Olds. They're just painted with Revell's silver (Number 91) and then I installed some Photo Etch parts by Scale Dreams and linkages are from metal wire. Revell's '62 Impala carburetors. Painted with mixture of dirty thinner and Humbrol's Clear Orange. Details are made from sheet aluminium and metal wire. Jo-Han Plymouth Barracuda Dominators. Golden areas are painted with regular Humbrol gold paint and the chrome has some flat clear over it. Fuel line fittings are made from six-rounded Plastic Tubing, Photo Etch parts are from the Scale Dreams and rest of the details are just regular copper wire. Also the throats are drilled open, and I added nozzles there. Those are just some examples of what I do for my carburetors. There might be better and more realistic ways to do this, but I hope you still find this helpful.

Just a regular Loctite Super Glue will work fine, and I believe that can be found from Norway, too. At least here in Finland those can be used everywhere.

Well that is a beauty! Very nicely done Chrysler, and it looks like the Moebius Models kit will be an excellent one as always. Nice paint and BMF work, and your photography is top notch, as usual. This is yet another Must Have kit, though I haven't bought the '55 Chrysler's Stock Version yet either...
-
Well that's nice! Much better than my build from the same kit. Your paint and detailing looks super nice to me. Are those red and blue areas painted or decals? Excellent build.

Thanks Jason! It means a lot, and your Cuda was one of the things that was keeping me working with this one even though this project had some difficulties, too.

MISTER TWISTER Chevy II Nova..COMPLETE..12/01/13
W-409 replied to Mister Twister's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking good, Darryl! The paint job is incredible, nice shine and smooth paint. The windows look very good, too. This will be amazing build when finished, it sure is a lot of fun to build a Scale Replica of 1:1 car, isn't it. -
Wow, That's Nice! Really good looking Monza from all views. Nice paint job and excellent details all around. The little modifications you've done look good to me, too. Nice build and perfect color choice also... We had a '79 Skyhawk in our family two years ago and it was exactly the same color. With a V8, it smoked tires easily. Also I'm interested in the Vega. What kit is it? Or is it some kind of a conversion? And of course, more pics please of that too.
-
Nice project! I like these Drag Radial Race Cars, and I bet this will be a really nice build when finished. I think this color is really good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoT6-_1JuzI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZAXx2guZP4 The car runs in Street here in Finland. It has Small Block Ford with Pro Charger...
-
Thanks fellas, and yeah, the kit has a battery. I didn't know that some of these had one before Aaron pointed that out. I'm not a Funny Car expert, but these are a lot of fun to build. This is still kinda stalled, but I guess I can get an update posted soon. I've been working with the body and chassis... Bondo, sanding, more Bondo, more sanding etc.

This is going to be interesting! I can't wait to see how this will turn out so I'm tuned in. I was just looking at this kit yesterday and it is on my Must Have list for sure. Your progress so far looks great, nice job with removing the exhaust and good work in the interior area, too. Keep it coming.

My '68 Ford Mustang Tasca Cobra Jet
W-409 replied to Terminator-Fox's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice build! It's always great to see Stockers and Super Stockers being built, especially when they are built as nicely as this. Very nice paint job and clean work with the BMF, too. Nice photos also. -
A Couple Of More Scratchbuilt Items: An interior wall for my '77 Chevy Van that I scratchbuilt from Sheet Styrene. I had to do that, because otherwise the empty area on the inside of the body could be seen through windshield. For my '71 Barracuda (Jo-Han Kit) I scratchbuilt those two Fuel Pressure Regulators on the front inner fenders. They were built from different kinds of styrene tubings. And then door panels for my '61 Oldsmobile Wagon Custom project. They are scratchbuilt from Sheet Styrene and door handles are metal wire. Still a little Bondo work to do and window cranks are still missing, but otherwise they are done.

You did a great job updating 'Not the Best Kit' into a very nice build. Nice work on the chassis and engine details. Looks like everything is just right and it could be fired up and ready to go. That body looks very good too with nice paint job on it. Great work, and I really enjoyed following the WIP Thread on this one.

Great work as always, Brett. That looks very realistic, nice paint job and good work with the decals, they look really "Painted On" to me. Excellent job all around.
