  1. thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it! there are more photos in that link by the way You all probably did see this cover before...but since i bought this issue i go back to it once in awhile to look at the cover and try to bring myself back to the basics.....self satisfaction and inner enjoyment! This cover inspired me to take them photos you all see. Thank you Jairus Watson, Bob Jungbult, James Warkentin and Doug Rogers for putting this photo together for my favorite model car magazine! Sometimes we need reminded of what we do and why we do it. Hosted on Fotki
  2. Thank you for sharing memories too! Ya know, if i had enough stuff to do it i would definately do a hobby shop photo shoot! It would be fun and something to hang onto. I forget where..but there are some photos on the internet of a garage FULL of built up models back then. Also some photos of old hobby shops....you know, the shops that only sold MODELS. Looking at them photos of "just models" was like looking at the window of an expensive jewelry store. Models USED to be THAT popular! I wish they were still complimented that way in stores...a whole isle for model kits....model kits in store windows.....AMT or REVELL signs hanging from the ceilings , blowing around from the air off the ceiling fans......oh boy! First places i got models was Kmart and Safeway Grocery. I remember when i turned 7 or 8....geez, i need to talk to my mom and ask her when i started building LOL.... it was my birthday and i got $10 and even in 1980-1981 , $10 was a LOT for my age! I rode my bike to Safeway without telling anyone i left (a few neighborhoods away) and i went right to the toy isle and chose between hotwheels (back then there were still redlines on the shelf before they were saught after like today) ..... i could have bought some! Instead i bought an MPC Ford Van. I don't remember it all that well....i got home and my mom was crazy worried, my aunt almost hit me with her car cuz she was rushing to my house worried to find out "where did Bobby go?"! ......I got in trouble and hugged, then driven back to Safeway to return the model kit that i "blew" some birthday money on LMAO.....###### , i am ok with it....but i will never forget it.
  3. I am glad to have touched some of you. This was not only to create a fantasy for myself, but to also give props to the pioneers in this hobby. Yes , also to remind us of what modeling meant to us before the internet. I never saw a model magazine and didn't know they were even made until about 1995? I live in a big city, i am positive they were sold around a lot of places.....but i never saw one and nobody spoke of them. I was in my own little world , in my bedroom rebuilding and re-posing my builds on my dresser top. I tried to get friends to build, some of them did....but most didn't want to sit and concentrate , but rather go to parties and stuff. I did plenty of that partying, but i always came home looking forward to my models. Often, i would find myself impatient and leaving parties to go build! I guess one thing we modelers have in common is the ability to sit still for awhile, concentrate on one thing and stay hungry for knowledge. I have to say , the internet has upped my modeling a lot! In fact, i am always learning about things that i would never known. Ahh..... well that's me rambling again lol
  4. haha! i guess i sounded too stern in my post....i hope everyone enjoyed the pics though. i spent a couple hours moving stuff around , could not find some tools to put in there. i ran out of room for models , but it was fun! i was born in 1974, and have always been jealous of them days. i grew up around a lot of older guys and was "sort of" raised with this stuff. to think of how simple things were compared to today.....modeling back then was only in your home between you and maybe a couple friends. today thousands of people see your models if you are like us on the internet , it's just not the same at all. not trying to depress anyone LOL.... sometimes i think of shutting my computer off, stop going to shows and put my current build on the kitchen table to be closer to my family.....like it was when i was a kid. i used to build on a tv tray or at the kitchen table and my parents or anyone who came over was right there with me. ahh memories...
  5. i don't like to wash like i did a couple years ago. the black washes dull all the little bars or whatnot in the grille that SHOULD be shiny. i use an archival ink pen that actually has a tip small enough to fit between the bars on even a '32 ford! the one i use is black of course, but they come in a bunch of colors and are water based, easy to wipe off if you make a mistake. they run about $5 i think. mine has a 0.20 line width. 005. check the link and buy you some! art stores carry them. http://www.sakuraofamerica.com/Pen-Archival Hosted on Fotki
  6. this is the only black and white i took. the rest are all Sepia Tone. To answer questions before they rise.....NO, nothing is for sale or trade. Some of it is already sold, i shot these before shipping. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...tuff-part-2-th/ Hosted on Fotki
  7. yep, not me....but for instance Jimmy Flintstone carries the car to build it. it's cheap, not bad and quick shipping! see my buddy Steve at ..... http://www.resinrealm.net/Star/STARModels.html
  8. got lucky on the tires , that's cool! keep up the great work!
  9. Sounds like a browser hijacking. The warning is fake, he needs to do a bit of work. If he has not gotten rid of it, he can ask for help here i will guide him and maybe others will learn some stuff along the way. PM me if this is something needed.
  10. thanks guys for the nice compliments! my head is gonna swell up and i won't be able to button my pants! the Falcon i traded off for a kit i wanted to a guy in Austrailia. the body is a resin by Drag City Casting. www.dragcitycasting.com thanks again , i really want to build another Falcon!
  11. Very , VERY nice! great detail work, nice to see a beehive in there! i like the detail on the seat and the pool ball shifter too. where did you get the all black Firestones? kickin' build!
  12. hehe! just the falcon is going. i will build another one.
  13. thanks guys! i actually finished these awhile back....falcon not that long ago. i just thought it would be neat to take photos of them like this. falcon is missing rear glass , yes it's a racing thing in a lot of cases....but also because i took the original '62 glass back out and put in a '61 ranchero for the front.
  14. if i can make it, i will be there from 4:42-5:02 pm for the photos , then i have to get back home and check messages on here. but really, i am doing my best to make it.
  15. thanks Dave! sorry no engine at all. hood is molded shut, i pretty much built it quickly for a contest that i was running way behind on for the deadline. if i had opened the hood, i could have put an engine in, the rest is all there.
  16. quite different, but i really like it! gives me an idea, maybe try something like this thanks!
  17. guys i decided to get some more fun photos before this thing is off to Austrailia ;D Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki more photos here http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...61-ford-falcon/
  18. As the title suggests! If you like old school and i do mean 100% old school hot rods, kustoms, vintage drags, bonneville/salt flat, jalopy/vintage dirt racing modeling, this is the place to go. www.thedpmcc.com/trak.html <- check the un-finished galleries to see what members built.
  19. well when i am not building or talking about models, i check emails and forums for all the off topic stuff
  20. did you get an invitation? it's your show, i know....hehe! well i think it took Steve 3 hours last time, but he has to drive the speed limit cuz his trailer etc... maybe i thought it was 3 hours?
  21. THANK YOU! Eeyore, if you like this one....check my last one out. (pics kinda suck, was trying the blackground) Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki

    real nice Bob!
  24. I rebuilt from an original built up that was molded in black. I painted the white walls for the first time. I added the spreader bar up front cuz i was going to build the box art model, but i didn't get the color right. There is NO firewall and there was not one on the car. Kids built this car channeled back in the 60s with no firewall.....###### thing won't fit unless you cut it almost to a sliver to sit against the cowl anyways....so what's the point? I had intentions to rebuild it and have fun, hope you enjoy! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki this is how it started... Hosted on Fotki
  25. Mike, some how i can't wait for Christmas so i can watch Rudolph? haha..i think ya did a nice job! Cop cars are not that exciting IMHO, but they are neat to look at when done nicely like yours!
