Big Trucks, Spoked Wheels..
Old Buckaroo replied to 10thumbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On the outers and front, they are toward the inside of the rim and pretty much hidden from the eye . I wouldn't bother. -
removing paint
Old Buckaroo replied to cowboy rich's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My preferred method is Simple Green in a Tupperware type tub and lid. I have found it works way quicker if warm as kept on top of the refrigerator or a few feet from a heat vent in a secure room from kids and pets. 24 hrs and most paint slips right off. Easy off works best if used in a large ziplock bag, place the cab or body and spray it down real good and zip it . Ten minutes later the paint is history. Might need to respray stubborn spots. -
351 Peterbilt conversion
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Helmut - No reason to apologize, I get confused on truck types myself. The 281's were a single drive axle drive. A 281 was the truck used in the movie Duel with tandems on the back but one was a tag axle. The 351's had tandem drive axles. Mark - I am glad you looked in ! Bob I am partial to the older work trucks. Jacobus - I am very much looking forward to your 351 project. I hope to learn from yours for my next one. Gino - Nothing beats good old aluminum and fiberglass for trucks , plastic trucks I dont care for. Gator - Thank you , I cant wait to see what your memory conjures up for an old classic. Old Albion - I love the bling on the old 1970's trucks but I also appreciate the "Plain Jane's" Dennis - I have plans for a tri - axle drive Yukon truck . Not that I have ever been to the Yukon but my version will be what I would expect to see there Thank you everyone for looking in and commenting -
KW COE Aero / BJ McKay rig
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
After several years I finally got the cab painted with partial decals . Angel - my decals had that area printed red, matching it was not easy.I think after the decals get cleared the reds will be closer. Clayton are you looking ? I am digging out these old dinosaurs and finishing them up to try and Motivate you -
Man, I just watched Scarface and Armed and Dangerous last week. My next run of Netflix has "Big" coming. How weird is that, I added those movies to my queue last month. Sad to hear that news, he was a great actor.

Whats your work area like?
Old Buckaroo replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is always fun to see a tread like this one, all of the work areas are great . For many years I used an old discarded vanity with one drawer missing. Made a great place for my compressor ! I built this bench with benchwork from my old model rr. It disassembles easily and this is the second house it has been in. -
Kenworth T900

Daniel - Both of your trucks are very nice. I really like the six spokers on the gold truck and the stripes on the blue ! I cant wait to see your future truck builds. -
post just your conventionals here

Very Nice Jacobus, is the Duck the AITM offering ? The International reminds me of one I drove years ago for picking up Caterpillar parts for mining equipment. -
351 Peterbilt conversion
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you everyone who looked in and commented ! Angel - I agree with you, I am tired of Alcoa's in kits. Tom - I will keep my eyes open for another emblem. Clayton - this is an old build finished up, come on I know you have a few out there Terry - I stumbled upon that large horn searching for other parts and knew where it had to go. Brian - The wheels are AITM products. Email Dave and ask for them as his list always says out of stock. Jim - I am happy to get this one displayed. Dave - This was the learner, I know what not to do for the next one. -

Good to see you guys getting the kicking the tires and cleaning off the dust. This Summer my Wife and I played as it was just us for the first time in 24 years. I get to model the rest of the year. Rich - what part of Colorado ? -
The Duel Project
Old Buckaroo replied to Stuntman Mike's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I like the sounds of this project - even going for the Dart. Just think there would of been no movie plot if old Dennis had Hemi under the hood ! Terry (Superpeterbilt) modeled a Duel truck after the crash all twisted up - it was really cool ! -
Peterbilt 351 project
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Gator & Gino - Thank you ! Last progress pic for this one. Mudflaps I have my own battles with them quite often. I made a flap bracket out of three pieces of styrene to hold a piece of aluminum wire. The idea is the wire will bend if contacted and it slips right out to re-straighten it or remove the flaps completely for travel. The finial pics are now "Under Glass" Thank you for following this one. -
I'm not sure . . .
Old Buckaroo replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I left a Snap'on ratchet & socket , wrench and prybar in one just like that. As they say No Good Deed goes Unpunished -
This truck was a ebay box o parts combined with an AITM resin conversion. I had to take indoor pics as the wind is really howling here today. Thanks for following and looking in.

Very nice Jacobus, I really like the Canadian sleeper. -
Peterbilt 351 project
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Clayton - I am not sure what I will do for the flaps. First I have to scrounge a pair. Remember all plastic components on this truck came from parts and partial assembled kits. Now I know what not to do on the next one. -
Peterbilt 351 project
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Terry I used on of those Detroits. Gator - What do you mean by trailer , that would take up the shelf space of two more trucks . Actually I would like to have an old round front style. -
Classy Fleet Trucks
Old Buckaroo replied to vincen47's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Western - stands out in my mind. Beautiful blue paint and chrome till tomorrow. I had the chance to turn wrenches for them about 15 years ago - I went for a larger fleet which was most likely a mistake. -
Some Rubber Duck questions
Old Buckaroo replied to Stuntman Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always am amazed at how many of us want to build the - RD Mack, Snowman truck, Blue Mule Ford, BJ & the Bear and Convoy truck. I bet when they made these movies and shows they never once thought how these trucks would be remembered and replicated for decades.
